As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

04/28/2011-Disney Dream with kids
Anyone going to the Bahamas at this time? This is our first cruise and we can't wait. We have 2 children as well.

my wife and daughter 7 will be on this cruise, our first and getting excited. i thought it was spring break for us when i booked the cruise but found out last month school was out the week prior, not sure if that will effect the crowd level.

Wow,we will be on the same cruise. My son is 9 so I don't know if they will be in the same kids group or not, or if your daughter will be in with my daughter who will be 5.
I heard the ship is sold out.
Did you sign up for any excursions????

I have the kids in their programs already and also signed up for the seahorse snorkle expedition too (we are in the morning one  )
I was going to try to book Palos but being this is our first cruise, I figured we would pass on it. Instead put the kids in their clubs and go to a lounge and enjoy ourselves betweeen events ie: supper and the deck family parties.
I really don't know how we are going to be on the cruise. |

we are in the afternoon snorkel, we also decided to pass on palo and remy at this time,being it is our first cruise also. we wanted to eat in the regular restaurants first
and spend time checking out the ship. while in nassau i think we will do a quick check of town and go back to the ship to enjoy

I think we are going to do that too...just take a quick jaunt into the market and then go back on board. I couldn't believe the prices on Nassau. Castaway Cay is so much more reasonable.
I debated about the afternoon snorkle, but I thought the fish might be more active in the morning as they are when you go fishing, so we picked the morning.
It looks like our ship is full already. I am debating about another cruise for next yr but I really have to see how I do with being out in the middle of the ocean. I have been on Ferry boats, and even one overnight but that was 15 yrs ago.

yes you are right about the fish being more active in the am. i'm not sure y we picked the pm trip? maybe get a chance to rest in the morning and not rush out ha! if you think u will book another cruise, do it on board as disney will give you discount for future cruise. how can u tell our ship is almost full?

My TA told me that the ship was full. Glad I booked early.
You can still book ahead of time and then if you have a TA they will deduct it from the amount you have owing.
I am looking forward to it, although there are some things I won't understand til I get there.
You can look up your room online. I did that. I found out that the 5th floor is not one that is the most favourable. I just googled my room and there were comments about it.
Are you going to pack extra things for the Pirate Theme night? I heard the 2nd night is family night.

did not think about packing extra for pirate night, maybe a eye patch and hawaii shirt, we chose 2nd seating for dinner and am now second guessing that, i have read the show starts at 8 and fireworks are at 1030. i hope we can see some of the show and make our dinner at 830. we r on the 7th floor, what was not favorable about 5th?

The 5th floor was really noisy. I just Googled my room number and there were reviews of all the floors there.
We chose the early seating. For us, we felt we could eat, put the kids in their clubs for abit and have time to ourselves before everything started.
I don't know if I will buy much for the pirate night. I have to research and see if many people do that or not. I don't want alot of extra things to pack so will see what I can find.
My son will be missing some school too.

wow i hope your room turns out to be ok. we were advised to get the second seating for dinner based on not having to rush back to the ship to make in time. i read that they have a plan where your child's meal can be served first and the oceaneer's people will take the kids off to play while you finish your meal. my daughter will be missing 4 days of school, im not to concerned with her being in 1st grade, we are staying in coco beach the day before to start relaxing.

The cruise is the last part of our journey. We are visiting WDW before hand, going to JFK and seeing Cocoa Beach as well.
My kids are o.k with eating as long as there are people around to watch, so that is good. But if they get antsy that is a good idea about the Oceaneers club. Do you have to book that ahead of time?
My son is in grade 4. He is missing 8 days of school, which is not good but the only way we could swing it. They don't seem to mind the kids missing here. There is one child in grade 3 that has taken 3 wks off and then get the Spring Break on top of it.
Our rooms look good too.
We are going through a cold snap right now. Florida is looking very very good.

boy, sounds like you are going to need the cruise to relax! the meal program is called dine and play, just let your server know and the kids meal is expedited and 45min later counselors come and take them to the club. today was a taste of spring for us about 75 and people were cutting out of work early

I am going to look that up and see what the kids think. Do they miss the dinner show? Does the dinning room go through all the changes by then? I might ask on the board as well.
It is -35 C here today  Normal temps is -5. So I am, really dreaming of Florida now. Kids have it off too this wk, and they won't go outside this cold. Will have to wait til it warms up to atleast -20. Our temps have been going up and down so much this winter. I just hope it doesn't snow in April. We went on one trip in the middle of April about 3 yrs ago, and there was a blizzard  No telling what this yr will bring.
