As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

My family and I are undecided...........
We are skipping our annual trip to the WORLD this summer, but we really want to GO SOMEWHERE!!!!!!.....airfares from NYC are just out of this world!
We have about 390 points to use.......
We were looking at VERO (which we love very much, airfares are thru the roof)
We were looking at HILTON HEAD (we have never been----what airport is closest?--should we go?)
We were looking at an RCI EXCHANGE to WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA (has anyone ever been there? is it worth the points?)
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
This places is so full of a wealth of information.

Are you wanting to stay on the East Coast? That is what I'm thinking from your possibilities you listed. If not, how about heading out to Disneyland. You can use a trick I found a few years ago to help save on airfare. Make your trip out and back two flights each. On the first flight fly to Vegas and either stay a night there or schedule a second flight the same day to whatever airport gets you to Disneyland.
Flights to and from Vegas can be much cheaper. I used this trick to drop over $300 per/ticket each way when my wife and I flew to Kauai. We also used the couple of nights in Vegas to soften the time change from Ohio to Kauai.
Disneyland's definitely a good option, if the airfare's not too high. We loved our stay at Hilton Head Island a few years ago. I'm desperately trying to remember which airport we flew out of from there. I remember it was absolutely tiny and we connected to Atlanta, where we caught our flight home. I'm sure someone will come along and remind me.....

The closest airport to Hilton Head is Savannah.
We had a very relaxing stay at DVC Hilton Head in July 2005.... there are lots of recreation activities available on the island - Biking, golfing, tennis, beach activities.....
We are skipping our annual trip to WDW this year too. Everyone wanted to try Vero Beach so we will be going there instead. Next year we plan on going to Disneyland so it will be three years between trips to WDW by the time we get back.
I'd vote for Hilton Head if you want an unvacation. It's very serene and relaxing. Closest is savanah- which is a beautiful city. You can also fly into Charleston, see the city and drive 1.5 hours or so down to Hilton Head. All three locations have top notch dining if that's what you want. August through October is when we get our hurricanes. Usually the first two weeks of August are pretty tame. I don't see you getting tired of the beaches at all- they are some of the cleanest and least disturbed in the world! Learn how to swim in a riptide and you won't have any problems.
There is still a strong Gullah presence in the area with tours and museums on that topic. Also if I remember correctly there is an African village near the island. If golf is your thing this is the place to go. The oldest European colony in American is located near Hilton Head on Paris Island. I don't know if it is open to the public. I worked in the site in college a little over 20 years ago. It's on the Marine military base. It was a Spanish colony founded in 1562- side note when William Hilton landed on Hilton Head in the 1600s he was met by Spanish speaking Indians.
Oh and don't forget the wild horses right across the border in Georgia and the wild monkeys near Bluffton on Monkey Island. There are several thousand wild monkeys. Telephoto lenses are required for really good viewing. Monkeys can be hard to see because it isn't a zoo. Horses are just dangerous and you don't want to get too close. Cumberland Island- where the horses are- is a walking biking island only. There are no shops so you have to boyE- everything.

Another vote for Hilton Head! You can fly into Savannah, but it's about a twelve hour drive from NY if you are so inclined. You will need a car there, as there are lots of things to do that are not right in the area.
We did an RCI short stay exchange at The Cove in Yarmouth, Cape Cod and it was wonderful! The resort was beautiful and we truly enjoyed our stay!
