Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Smile An abbreviated FT. Wilderness trip review- (by top 10’s)

We stayed at Ft. Wilderness (for the first time) July 23-31. Our cast was:

Me, Katydid (aka Gram) - loves all rides, adventurous diner but has celiac disease
DH, (aka Papa) hates jerky rides, adventurous diner
DS, adult who loves wild rides, semi-adventurous diner
DD-I-L, loves wild rides, picky diner (who tried and often liked new things this trip)
D Granddaughter,- age 8, so very afraid of rides (but loves almost all of them once she begins the ride,) just beginning to become an adventurous diner
D Grandson- age 7, loves most rides, very picky diner

Some not so great things about Ft. Wilderness

4. You have to walk to the comfort station to take a decent shower every morning.
( I need at least 2 cups of coffee in the morning before I can attempt this!)
3. There is no housekeeping in a camper
2. There is NO FOOD COURT
1. It is a long, long boring drive towing a camper from the mid-west

Top 10 things about Ft. Wilderness Campground:

10. Pretty affordable
9. You can see the fireworks and Electric Water Pageant from the beach
8. Movie and campfire program
7. Wildlife
6. Surprisingly good bus system
5. Boat to the MK and MK resorts
4. Convenient laundry facilities
3. Clean and nice comfort stations
2. Very well kept grounds (what other campsite has a street-sweeper go by every day?)
1. A beautiful relaxing place to stay “away from it all.”

Yay! A trip report from someone who stayed at Fort Wilderness! We had the opportunity to walk around the campgrounds in May while waiting for the HDDR. I really liked what I saw and I told my girls how much I'd like to camp. They love to go camping, but not there, because in their words "It's not the Disney experience." I can't wait to hear more, hurry back!

Food by the numbers

We would love to go back to the Fort again sometime, but for my husband and I, our hearts still long for CBR. For the most part we loved our food choices this trip. We were on the basic dining plan and it was plenty (or maybe even too much) food for us!

Our top 10 Favorite Table Service Meals

10. Trails End – OK, no complaints, just not on the same level with other table service.
9. Dinner at our camper – so nice to have a home cooked meal in the middle of a trip!
8. Biergarten - good food and surprisingly gluten-free friendly
7. Boma Breakfast –good. This was our picky 7 yr.-old’s favorite meal.
6. Boma dinner – good foods, great selection, nice wines.
5. PSB (Akershus breakfast) – got to love those princesses!
4. Whispering Canyon Café - very nice skillet, (plus great gluten-free cornbread)
3. Le Cellier –delicious food and good service.
2. ‘Ohana – wonderful food and very good service.
1. Narcoossee’s – fabulous food and service! My new favorite WDW restaurant

Some good and some bad Counter Service Restaurants

7. ABC Commissary – not so good
6. Toy Story Pizza Planet – not very good pizza
5. Starring Rolls- nice baked goods
4. El Pirata y el Perico – a nice change from burgers
3. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café- skip the burgers and go for the great chicken or ribs
2. Main Street Bakery- a lot of choices for a bakery
1. Sunshine Seasons – great choices, great food

I find that Diseny dose not know anything about pizza. From the CS to the in room delivery the pizza is like eatting cardboard with oil. But that is just my thoughts on the pizza. You would think with all the other out of this world food they do that the pizza would be at least good.

Thanks for sharing your review. My family and I have camped many times at Ft. Wilderness in everything from a Pop up to a 5th Wheel. We drove from CT and back many times the drive can be tedious I agree long car rides are not my thing.

I have also stayed in a cabin at Ft. Wilderness and that was amazing. Camping without the Camping hassles (ie I got to fly there, my own bathroom, and maid service). But not having a food court can be tough but I know why there isn't one. Disney figures if you have a camper you most likely are cooking your own breakfasts, could make your own lunch/dinner etc. And if your in a Cabin you have a full kitchen so to them spending the expense to build a food court would in their mind be too costly for their benefits (ie profits). But I'd like to see something go in there, because I agree not having one in my mind is a negative since A. I'm on vacation I don't want to cook EVERY meal, maybe 1 or 2 but having the option of a Food Court would be nice. and B. I'm not a good cook, rather eat someone elses cooking.

So I totally agree with you Glad someone else shared their experiences

Smile One last list and final thoughts

My top ten lists are not just my views. On the ride home I got out my passporter and we went over each days activities as noted on the passpockets. With input from my husband,son,daughter-in-law and much enthusiastic shouting from the grandkids; we came up with these lists.

Our top 10 favorite rides:

10. Mission Space (half of us on orange, half on green)
9. Fast Track
8. Spaceship Earth
7. EE (no kids, this was an adult only vote)
6. Haunted Mansion
5. Kilimanjaro Safari
4. Mad Tea Party
3. Toy Story MM
2. Soarin’
1. RnRC

Some Final thoughts-

Staying 8 days and 8 night was great.

I’d rather NOT go to WDW in the summer again; Oct-Nov-Dec is much nicer!

We all loved the Dining Plan – well worth the price!

The Water Parks and More option seemed a good deal when we booked it, but the pools were just too hot in the summer weather, we all felt fried – we won’t do that again.

Going with your grandchildren is the BEST!

We can’t wait to go back again!
