Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Really more so for the married folks on the group today...we've talked a lot about how long we've been married, what songs were played at our wedding...here's one.

How did you meet your spouse, and what was your first date?

I met my wife when we were 15 waaaaayyy back in 1983 at a high school party. She was a friend of the gal who was hosting the party and didn't go to our high school. Met her that night and asked her out - our first date was a movie - went to see "Return of the Jedi"! She had never been to see any of the Star Wars movies, she later admitted! Anyway, we started "going steady", and got very serious by our senior year of high school. We both went to Virginia Tech, became engaged our senior year of college and got married the next year in 1990. And they lived happily ever after....

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Good question

Chris and I met 10 years ago over the Internet - yes, we're one of "those" couples We frequented the same chat board and were good friends for about 5 years before he came to KC for a visit. After spending a few weeks together, it was pretty clear that we were heading into that funky grey area between friendsville and lover's lane

Fast forward through 3 years of a long distance relationship between KC and Sydney, Chris getting a job here in the States, several icky months spent waiting for his work visa to be granted (the INS was at the top of my evil list!!), and an elopement last year - and there you have it

Our first date - dinner on the Plaza and killer seats for Phantom of the Opera.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I was sitting on the side of the road in a patrol car watching traffic. Someone I went to high school with walked over to say hi and his sister was with him. May I say here.. she looked good! Any way I was seeing someone and nothing came of this, but the seed was planted.

About a year later I was assigned to a combo shift. 6 PM to 10 PM walking a beat and 10 PM to 2 AM in a patrol car. This friends sister was the night manager of a pizza shop and I started to drop in often. She was always offering free coffee and I insisted on paying. So she started charging me offbeat prices. One time .50 another 1.00. (this was in the 70's) One night I was "shaking doors" about midnight and found the back door to the pizza shop unlocked. I had dispatch call her. When she drove up I told her we had to stop meeting like this. The next day I called her at home. Three months later I asked her to marry me. We married a year after our first date. Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

We met when my DH came to work at the same place I worked. One of his employees and oneof my friends set us up. He says that was our first date.

I say it was when he actually picked up the phone and asked me out. It was dec. 7, 1991 and he took me to a sneak preview with (not joking here!) "Father of the Bride" and "Beauty and the Beast." A week later we were on our third date at his 15 year old neices choir concert and I knew we would be married.

He asked me the day after Valentine's Day 1992 and we were married July 18, 1992. Spend our anniversary at WDW and we're celebrating our 10th anniversary there this summer!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I met my husband in Constitutional Law class in my junior year of college. The first time I really talked to him (after a study session before a test) I mentally thought, "really nice guy, but way too short."

Apparently I must have a hidden fetish for shorter men...our first date was a month later. He took me to the Olive Garden--hey, for Western NY this was pretty high class! We got engaged almost two years to the day from our first date. Our five year wedding anniversary is this August.

My DH & I actually went to the same Jr High and High School, but did not meet until after we had both graduated. We met at a church dance, and ended up engaged 3 months later!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Met my DH at a party that I didn't want to go to.

My cousin invited my sister and me to a birthday party for his fiancee. My sister wanted to go but I didn't.I had had a broken engagement 6 months earlier, and didn't think I was ready. But we went and for the first 2 hours I was cranky. In walked 2 guys I had never seen before. Turns out they were my cousin's fiancee's brother's friends. I sat up and took notice.

Managed to get myself introduced to 'Rusty and Eric' and spent the rest of the evening sitting between them and flirting with both of them.

When it was time to go, my cousin's fiancee pulled me aside and asked me which one should she give my phone number to. I couldn't decide so she flipped a coin. Rusty won.

Our first date was 3 weeks later at Bennigans after work. 4 and a half years later we were married.

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I met my wife on a memorial weekend.I was with a friend going to pick up his boat and she lived down the street a couple of houses. As it turned out my wife's nephew was dating my friends niece.Anyway, she was outside with her kids in the yard and we stopped to talk. After talking a while we discussed how she had no escort for her high school reunion coming up shortly.Jokingly,I suggested that I would be her "date".One thing led to another and here we are. Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

DH and I were in the same class in Jr. High and High school. I only new him as a jerk in Jr. High as he had only made a couple of snotty comments to me and I had ignored him. (It was the 80's and I was in my rebel heavy metal stage and KISS was the bomb. I was wearing my denim jacket with a KISS back patch on it and he walked by mw one day and said KISS sucks! What a way to impress a girl). Fast forward to the end of freshman year and he moved to my town and started riding my bus. Well, one afternoon there was a paper fight on the bus and all of his paper wads seemed aimed at me and of course I threw back. One of his friends then told us that he liked someone on our bus. And all of my girlfriends were sure it was them. He was the big jock of our class. I didn't really care who he liked as thoughts of KISS sucks circulated through my head. I was an honors student and reasonably popular, but definately not athletic. A little while later he called me on the phone and it was my turn to get snotty. He asked how I was and I said "Who is this?" even though I knew. Friendship blossomed into romance and pretty soon he was spending every day at my house. That was 1989. Our first date was the movies. We saw K9. Terrible movie. We dated throughout high school and college and then for years after college graduation we were married in 2000. What a long journey!!!!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

It's a long story with a little drama, but here goes...

We met in a pool hall. I had been dating someone very seriously for several years and spending every night at the pool hall running their 9-ball tournaments. The guy I was dating wanted to be a professional pool player and devoted every waking hour to that purpose - not me. So when Walter started coming into the pool hall for the tournaments, he'd sit at the counter after he was knocked out of his last match to keep me company. Eventually, he realized that more than anything I wanted to get out of the pool hall. One night, after another quick bout in the tournament, he was knocked out early and asked me if I wanted to go get a bite to eat. I still didn't know him that well and asked if he minded if we waited for Ted (my date). Ted was soon knocked out of the tournament and was in a bad mood and wanted to take me home. Walt mentioned going to the diner and off we went with a very reluctant Ted in tow.

I ordered tea, Ted ordered soda and Walt ordered tea, too. Before I could think, I turned to Walt and said "I always thought I'd marry a man who drank tea." The look Ted gave me was priceless. I'll never forget it. He wasn't exactly thrilled with Walt either.

A few weeks later, I was looking through the tournament charts at the pool hall and realized that Walt had won the tournament twice in a month. Both wins were on nights when I worked late and wasn't at the pool hall. When I pointed out to him that I thought I might be distracting him from playing a good game, he told me he wasn't trying to play a good game when I was there. He just wanted a few moments alone with me and thought I could use the company. I was very flattered. We remained friends, but he stopped coming to the tournaments as often because his grandma was in poor health.

A year later, I broke up with Ted (the dud) and spent a few months blissfully single and not in a pool hall! One night that summer, I stopped by the pool hall to see some old friends and was feeling a little reckless. (There was talk of a midnight skinny dip down at the creek.) Lo and behold, in walks Walt. (I found out later that a friend called him and told him about my breakup and that I'd be at the pool hall.) He said "Somehow I doubt you want to spend the whole night here. You wanna go out? A bite to eat or something?"

We drove to my house and dropped off my car. Then Walt drove me the 50+ miles to his house in the Poconos that he'd been driving all that time to come see me. We sat up all night getting to know each other over a bottle of wine. We watched the cars go by from his back porch and eventually watched the sun come up.

We got engaged a month later at a tattoo party when I asked him to marry me...

We were married a year later and a month after that went to WDW for our honeymoon. Our 3rd anniversary is this October and we're expecting our first child this July. So you could say we lived happily ever after...

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Mushu1 and I met on the AOL. One night we were in the new members chat room and an happened to post the exact same thing at the exact same time. So we started talking about how great minds think alike, etc. When we realized we actually only lived 20 minutes apart, I called him. We talked for 5 hours until 5 in the morning and he finally asked me to go see "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" with him the next night. That was June 27, 1996. We went to the movie and Friendly's and fell in love immediately! (So much in love it took me 2 hours to realize he was wearing hearing aids and when I fnally did, I asked, "what are those for?" ) He swears he knew he loved me then because I hadn't noticed!

We got engaged 6 weeks later (when you know, you know!) in August and got married November 1, 1997!

Loving the stories folks!

My husband and I met at a Bennigan's restaurant that he was working at. He'd been there for a while when I came to work. I started working in December and our first date was June 30....he came for a swim at my apartment complex with me. -HiddenMickey

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

Ken and I met on AOL too!

I was married once before when I was 21 (because I was incredibly stupid) and we got divorced when I was 24 and I moved back home right before my 25th birthday.

It was 1996 and I was at a place in my life where I was happy with what was going on, I didn't have a boyfriend. I didn't want a boyfriend. I wanted to concentrate on me for a while.

We had just got AOL a few months before and I was online and I saw "check out new AOL personals!!", so I was curious to know what type of people placed personal ads online (my two friends and I had placed ads in the Boston Phoenix the year before, and I had met a nice guy and we had dated for a few months. He was my Transitional Man!) so I went in to 'Men seeking Women' and I scrolled down and I saw 'Teddy Bear, 25'. Now when I placed my personal ad, I had started it with DWF, 25, .........seeks tall, interesting teddy bear type, so needless to say, I was intrigued!

I opened his ad (much more room that newspapers, let me tell you) and in it was written practically everything I always said about relationships, likes, dislikes, etc....

Well, I got scared and closed up that ad quick!!!! Not before I bookmarked it though.....

I showed it to my friend who said 'You have to answer that' so I did. Ken emailed me back and after a couple of days of IMing and emails I gave him my phone # and we met the next Friday night for a couple of drinks (which turned into a 8 hour date) on September 6, 1996 (9696) and after he kissed me on a beach (Revere Beach for all of you from MA) at Midnight, I knew we'd be together forever!

SIDENOTE: There were 5 qualities I always said I wanted in a man (the most shallow of all was he had to be a good kisser) and up until he kissed me, he had 4 of these qualities but when we kissed, I swear I said in my head 'Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a BINGO!!'

We were married on September 7, 2001, 5 years and 1 day after our first date!

Have a great day all!!

Re: Silly Question of the Day 3/15/02

I will try to make a long story short. My sister-in-law (Patti) was my best friend in grammar and HS. So I've known Chet and his family the majority of my life. I dated him when I was 15(1983) we used to go the drive-in (Man with 2 Brains)and hang out with mutual friends. When I was 19 we went to a wedding together. He got married to someone else when I was 22 and they had a daughter. Patti moved to CT soon after that. When I was 27 I found out Patti was moving back to LI. I called her dad and Chet called me back. He had divorced a couple of years earlier. We started dating shortly after that and were married when I was 30 (4 years ago). 6 monthes later we got custody of his daughter and we have been raising her together ever since.
