Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Question Matching Name on Airline Ticket to ID?

I just read that sometime this year there's going to be a new TSA rule that the name on your ticket must exactly match what's on your ID. Like if your license has your middle name your airline ticket must have it too. I never do this --my tix always are just first and last name. I can't seem to find concrete information about when this goes into effect.

I found a press release on the TSA site that says the Secure Flight program is now operational, but it doesn't really address the name matching issue. I also found this article:

TSA Secure Flight Program

I'm not familiar with this site so I don't know how reputable they are, but they mention that starting May 1 airlines will be collecting full names for bookings. But what about those of us who booked before May 1st but are flying after May 1st (that is us!!)??

We called SouthWest and they said the names don't have to match (i.e., it's okay if our middle name isn't on the ticket even if it's on the ID) and they seemed to know nothing about this change. Ugh, I'm getting worried about our flight home. Anyone have any info to share?

I thought this was standard practice anyways. We make sure mine is always correct because my DL doesn't match anything else like cc's, etc.

My friend goes by her middle name and when we flew last year we made sure the tickets were in her legal name.

I don't know--my DL and Passport have my maiden name as my middle name and I've never included that middle name on an airline ticket. I always just make sure first and last is exactly like the ID (like no nicknames) but this is the first I'm hearing that the entire full middle name must be there.

I would check homeland security's website or TSA's website: TSA | Transportation Security Administration | U.S. Department of Homeland Security

There is contact information and FAQ's on there. In the search bar type in "secure flight" to get the information you are looking for.

Thanks! I've been searching the TSA site but it's not really clear about those of us who booked before they were collecting this additional info but flying after. I even called the TSA and they said the names should match (i.e., full name on ticket) but then she was kind of wishy washy about whether it was mandatory and then she said to call my airline and talk to them. Ugh, she didn't seem too knowlegeable. When booking on SWA's site they don't even have a spot for middle name.

My guess is that they will issue you new boarding passes with your full legal information if you have already booked when you get to the airport. I would maybe arrive just a little bit earlier than usual to take care of that issue if you think it will be a problem. I wouldn't overly stress about it. There will be a period of overlap.

From the press release on TSA's site about the Secure Flight program.. it doesn't sound like they're requiring ticket names to match exactly... TSA: TSA's Secure Flight Begins Vetting Passengers

I'd keep an eye on it though and maybe talk to airlines in advance of your flight time... like maybe a month or two before... But if you ask me... this whole flying thing is a little out of hand somedays! I guess we'll see how this affects us as time goes on.

When I book our tickets online with Northwest, it automatically issues the tickets last name, first name, middle initial (without even a space between the first name and middle initial). It doesn't give you an option to leave out the middle initial, or to include the full middle name. So I can't imagine they would be able to enforce a rule like that!

Just FYI...sometimes it is a good thing to add your middle name.

A group of military people I was a part of flew from Hawaii to Disney for our choir to perform in Magic Music Days on July 4, 2004. One young lady was of South Korean descent, but a natural born American. Unfortunately, her name is also a common one in North Korea and happened to be on the "no-fly" list. We were delayed a short time rectifying the situation with a call to our Commander who cleared TSA up (they were only doing their job). The main thing though that convinced them was her middle name on the ticket, her passport, her DL and military ID. Yeah...it was an inconvenience...but now we all laugh about it!
They do check and verify...I would just make it so your tickets match your other form of identification...as long as the airline gives you that option.

When my DH was traveling for business last month, his secretary mistakenly put his ticket in his nickname, "Tony", instead of his legal name, Anthony. They've done that many times before, I've always freaked out about that. But, he never has any problem with it. All of his ID's/DL say Anthony on them, but TSA didn't question it, and neither did Southwest. They do that when they book him rental cars too. When I booked our tix on SWA for this trip, I don't even recall there being a spot for a middle initial, let alone a place where you could put a full middle name, unless that recently changed.

I don't have a middle name - but my last name begins with St. - which opens up it's own whole bag of worms.

Every computer system handles this differently. Most will not allow the period, which is part of our legal name (and is on our driver's licenses.) Some squish it all together - most leave the space. Unfortunately - Alamo squished it all together - AND left the period in. So - when I tried to use the kiosk to check in - it didn't match, and kicked me out to the desk. So much for "Quick" silver status.

I can't imagine when the TSA starts getting involved with matching up the names exactly.

You're right--and I checked again today and there's still no spot for it. I'm such a worry wart I think I'll call SWA again next week before we leave just to double check that we'll be okay.

My DH goes by his middle name socially, but all of his legal documents have his full name (including his full middle name). When we book flights on SWA, I've been able to enter his first and middle names in the first name field and it's worked most of the time. The one time it didn't, I called SWA and they manually added his middle name to the reservation!

Hope this helps!

I'd say to be on the safe side, call the airline, give them your reservation number, and ask if they can change the name - and explain why.

We're just getting information on this at work now. It starts for travel after May 1.

We have been told we are required to capture the following:
Domestic Flights - Full name (first, middle, last), date of birth and gender
International Flights - All of the above, plus passport number and country of issue.

I have to read the really (really!) long document we received at work in its entirety before the end of the month so I can add the needed info to all my existing reservations on May 1.

We've been told the low cost carriers (Southwest, Jet Blue, Air Tran) have not yet changed their websites to capture this info for TSA.

I'll keep you posted as I learn more over the next few weeks.
