As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Well, the 2009 DCL Guide is at the printer, so it's too late to convert my prognostications in "The Future of the Disney Cruise Line" section from speculation to confirmed fact. I did put my money down on it being Los Angeles rather than San Diego (but that was a safe bet), and figured it would be the Wonder, rather than the Magic.

Disney Wonder Getting New Home at Port of Los Angeles
Cruise Ship Will Arrive for Extended West Coast Stay in 2011
Disney Cruise Line® has announced plans to reposition the Disney Wonder® Cruise Ship from its base in Port Canaveral, Fla., to the West Coast in 2011.
A two-year agreement, with a three-year extension option, will be considered by the Port of Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners on April 2, 2009.
With the port's proximity to the Disneyland® Resort, guests even more magical Disney vacation choices - both on land and sea!
The addition of a new homeport for Disney Cruise Line is part of the overall expansion plan for The Walt Disney Company. Two new ships, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, will arrive in Port Canaveral, Fla., in 2011 and 2012, respectively

Yep. It would have been silly for them to choose the San Diego port. There's much more potential for land/sea bookings with the LA port. I can hear the cash registers ringing now...Ka-Chinnnnng!
For the first year, I think the Dream will have the Bahamas and Magic will stay with the 7-night itineraries. Usually, shorter itineraries are easier to sell than longer itineraries, and in Disney's case, they can still turn a bunch of those 3- and 4-night cruises into 7-night Land/Sea itineraries.
One way to look at it is, the Magic's 7-night itineraries are good for about 850 7-night vacations a week. The Wonder's good for up to 1700 7-night vacations (if everyone does Land/Sea). The Dream on the 7-night itineraries would be good for 1250 7-night vacations, but on the Bahamas run, up to 2500 7-night vacations.
All this goes out the window when the Fantasy arrives. I'm figuring it'll replace the Magic on the 7-night itineraries. Maybe the Magic will go out of service immediately for a complete make-over, maybe not. One way or the other, I expect the Magic will be doing something other than the traditional 7-nighters. The Western seems to be substantially more popular than the Eastern, so maybe the Fantasy does Westerns every week, while the Magic does Easterns - maybe even longer Eastern itineraries, alternating 10- and 11-nighters, for example - and special itineraries like Europe, South America, etc.

As a DVC member, I can only say With two new DVC resorts in DL Anaheim and Hawaii (which will open in 2011 if everything goes as planned), that's a West Coast/Hawaii combo trip waiting to happen! Yay!
Dave, I'd love for Disney to offer 10- or 11-night Eastern Caribbean cruises. Sign me up!
