Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Las Vegas

Any fun ideas or great restaurants that we shouldn't miss. We are heading to Las Vegas during April vacation (me, dh, dd (8)). We will be spending some time visiting with my dh's family who live out there. We did get tickets to see "O" at the Bellagio. I want to check out Bodies the Exhibition at the Luxor, and my dd wants to go to see a magician and to M&M World. Anyone know of any magician shows that would be appropriate for an 8-year old? Thanks for your help! I know it has got to be warmer out there than it is here in Massachusetts right now! brrrrr.

If you're going to see "O" then definitely considering eating at the Bellagio buffet. It's like having fine dining but cafeteria style! Try to plan on spending some extra time at the Bellagio, because there's so much to see just walking around the hotel.

As for magician shows, definitely go to Lance Burton's show at the Monte Carlo. His early show is practically geared towards kids. I think you'll really like it!

The Bellagio and Wynn buffets are both superb and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Oh, I love M&M's world! Sorry I can't offer advice on additional stuff to do. I thought the Luxor pyramid was really cool to look at, and of course the fountain show outside the Bellagio.

M&M World was really . I don't know about magicians but what about Madame Tussauds, the arcade and roller coaster in New Your New York, the Lion habitat at the MGM and the The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay?

I second Lance Burton, but make sure it's his early show. His old show (when he was at Hacienda) had a topless late version, so I'm not sure if his Monte Carlo show does or not. But otherwise, his magic tricks are very cool and appealing to all ages.

You're getting some good advice on things to do with kids. If you're here for a decent amount of time, a day trip to Hoover Dam or Red Rock Canyon would be nice, to really see the desert and such....

The Rick Thomas Magic Show was a great one for kids, but I think he's not in LV anymore. If the Lance Burton is more than you want to pay, Nathan Burton (I believe that's lance's son, he was on one of those reality talent shows) is performing at the Flamingo during the day, and Mac King is at Harrah's (his is a comedy magic show). I know you can find a coupon for Mac King, not sure about Nathan Burton.

The Terry Fator show starts up at the Mirage in March. He won America's Got Talent one of the previous seasons. He is a great ventriloquist/comedian/singer. I want to go back to Vegas just to see his show!!!

The first time I went to Vegas was in April, and the weather was great! The thermometer said 90 degrees, but without the humidity, it felt like mid 70s to me. I wore shorts the whole time but never sweated once.

Must see Mac King - best show on the strip -paid or free simply the best comic magician. Free tickets are given out around Harrah's near midday (must buy a drink to enter)
Forget Chriss Angel's Believe (was on at Luxor in Oct 08) overhyped.
My pick for best buffets -Flamingo, Caesar's Palace and (dare I say it) Circus Circus. Flamingo even give out 2 4 1 tix along the strip near Bally's.
Don't bother with S&R's Lion habitat at Mirage - very overpriced. Go to MGM's lion habitat - heaps better and free!
Nathan Burton was on at Tropicana (I think?) in the afternoon and free tix were available after qualifying through the Tropicana's player program. We saw this show just for my DS but it was fantastic and we all loved it. Sadly Rick Thomas isn't at Tropicana anymore. Ohhhh!
On a previous trip we liked the Star Trek exhibit at the Hilton hotel (off strip)
We had a good time on the Venitian's gondolas - although quite expensive for 11 min ride. Great for a one time visit. Kids loved Madame Tussard's - not my scene though.
If you like heights - visit the top of Stratosphere hotel or Paris's Eiffel Tower - both have great views. Eiffel is my choice because you can get a great look at the Bellegio's fountains. Must take a side trip out to Hoover dam - a truly magnificent place - a great history lesson for DD.
Caesar's Palace forum shoppes have an Atlantis 'automatronic' show on the hour which is pretty special. Don't forget to visit the awesome toy store there (sorry ? name - has a huge wooden horse at the entry...you'll see)
New York's roller coaster is great value too but Speed-the ride at Sahara was a better thrill (it's closed now...) Do NY coaster at night.
Your DD may be interested in the carnival type game arcade at the Excalibur hotel - the service is poor & it's showing signs of needing a refurb but games are fun.
Coming from Oz we quite enjoyed spending up at the outlet stores. So if that interests you, the child friendly one is Premium Outlets a mile or so past the Luxor.
Try out the Outback Steakhouse (door next to M&M world) Aussies love their steak but this place is so not aussie food. It's tasty and reasonably priced though.
Have fun!

They just opened a new location a block from my in-laws! They tried it, but DH and I haven't had a chance to get there yet. It's a speak-easy style, right? FIL said they ask for a "password" before they allow you in.

FAO Schwartz is the toy store. Take the 2 story escalator to the top and work your way down. They also have 2 shows at Forum Shoppes - one is from the original building (featuring Bacchus) and the other is by Cheesecake Factory and is more high tech.
