Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
This subject is a downer, but I have spent this weekend inside on the couch because I have a temp and a horrible headache. DH tells me it's because I'm stressed out about going way! Could be. This happens to me about 7 out ot 10 times! I told him I didn't think I was stressed because I haven't even thought about packing yet ( for Charlotte on Wed.) and I'm not counting down to WDW (Sept. 22). But he's the medical person and he is probably right. The fact is, I've been stressing at work, working through my lunch hour and I can't even think of the last time I ate my veggies!
I guess I need to take better care of myself!

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
I'm so sorry to hear that you are sick, LauraBelle! Don't you know that one of the most important parts of planning is to get yourself in tip-top condition? You have to start taking better care of yourself right away! Eat those veggies and start pouring that orange juice down your throat!
Seriously, I hope you are feeling better soon! Here's a little pixie dust to help you on your way...

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
Happens a lot in our experience. I was sick on our trip to Michigan in July.
Here is our WDW sick tale---Last year my husband got sick the day before we left for WDW with a stomach bug. He stayed home all day on our first travel day and when I returned from work, he thought he was ok for a car ride. So I drove 4 hours to our first stop in SC and then all the next day to WDW. He was a trooper. That first night at WDW we had our character dinner at Chef Mickey's and he couldn't eat a thing . He felt much better as the week went by. Then on the way home, our son got a stomach bug and threw up most of the way home. Poor kid.
Hope you are feeling better LauraBelle! Luckily you have a few days before you travel, but it sure makes it hard to get ready, huh? -HiddenMickey

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
Oh Laura! I hope you get to feeling better very soon! I have been scared to death that Cameron would get sick right before our trip...knock on wood. That child has only been really sick twice in his 2 years on earth. Both times at Christmas. You should see our video of last Christmas morning..it is really sad. I have been hoping that we don't have a repeat of that this trip. It just seems that the only time he ever gets sick is when we have something really special planned. So far so good... !
I hope you take it easy and get alot of rest. Follow Cruella's advice and drink the OJ. A vitamin would probably be a good idea too! Get better soon!

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
It could be worse...
In fifth grade, right before I was to go on a trip to Disney, I got chicken pox
I was just getting over it when we went down there, so in all the pictures, I have scabs on my face!!
Being a generous sister, I shared the pox with my little brother, so he actually had it while at the parks!! Mom and Dad got him a Goofy hat to cover up the pox while we toured the park. Surprisingly, we were both game to tour the parks, and the vacation wasn't ruined for us.
Hope you feel better and don't share what you've got with anyone!

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
In '98, my DD (age 9 at the time) ended up with a dislocated hip a few days before our trip. This trip, leaving in just 5 1/2 weeks, my daughter just broke her arm for the first time. Hopefully, she will get the cast off the day before we leave for WDW. Of course, the only thing she thought about while getting her arm set was..."WHAT ABOUT TYPHOON LAGOON?????" We'll figure something out by then

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
My daughter did the best one last year. She made it to Gymnastics Nationals to be held outside of Orlando. As we were getting ready to fly out to Orlando, she began to feel a little sick. We had one of those all night flights and got into Orlando early in the morning. Our room wasn't ready yet (not a Disney hotel) so we had to wait. By the time we got to lay down for a nap at least, we had been on the go for about 30 hours. Early the morning of her competition, I awoke to feel her burning up with fever. I gave her something for it, and when the time came to go to the competition, I told her to take it one event at a time. She finished the competition, but didn't do nearly as well as she could have done. Oh well, we were in Florida, and made it a point of going to visit Mickey while we were there.

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
Unfortunately, I do get sick every time I go away -- whether vacation or travelling for work (about 3 times a year!). I even went so far as to ask the doctor if I was a hypocandriac (spelling?), and he laughed at me and said no!
I think a lot of it has to do with wearing yourself out with all the preparation! If anyone finds a way to avoid this, let me know!

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
So sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well What a disappointment for you! My DH and I start taking Vitamin C and E a couple of weeks to a month before we go on vacation to help ward some of the germs off ! We started that after the poor thing got the chix pox at 28, 3 days before we were supposed to leave for a cruise. Ever since then we've been okay. I know that the vitamins wouldn't have helped the chix pox but I think that mind over matter has a lot to do with how you feel so if we can "trick" ourselves into believing that it helps then it does!!!!
I hope you are feeling better already and make sure you get lots of rest!!

Re: Does anyone else get sick at vacation time?
Thanks, everyone for your concern!
The doctor seems to think it's an ear infection and I just realized that could be a problem because I'm flying tomorrow!
I'm sure it will be fine, I'm feeling much better.
