Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Electronic Versions

Will there be an electronic version of the 2009 Passporter's Walt Disney World Guide released at the same time as the paper/hardback books?

Normally we don't put an electronic version on sale at the same time the print versions are released. There have been times we've made electronic versions available (free to people who pre-ordered) when there was a delay in delivery of the print books (since they may be coming from Hong Kong). We also made an electronic version available for sale this year when we ran out of the print version.

I'm sure that will change in the years to come, as e-book readers become more widespread and e-book versions become a necessity for any newly-released book. However, there will always be the question of how you can create organizer pockets for an e-book.

As someone interested in an electronic version, would the lack of pockets be a problem?

Would you feel odd reading a book that makes regular reference to using the (non-existent) PassPockets, or would we have to produce an alternate manuscript that makes no mention of them?

Since you're in Scotland, is part of your question due to the inevitably slow delivery you'll encounter, or perhaps the high cost of international shipping?

The better we can understand our readers' needs, the better job we can do.

As a person who purchased the electronic version for the first time this year, I can tell you what my use for it was/is in case that is helpful in any way.

I am the contact person for a group of 8 travelling to Disney next month and no one else in the group was very familiar with what Disney had to offer. I purchased the electronic version entirely to send to them during the planning process: Value hotel choices when it was time to pick a resort, attraction information for when it was time to pick parks, and restaurant information for ADR info. Also, I sent personalized worksheets with our information, but the electronic version is not needed for those.

The electronic version was a godsend for me in this situation and even though I didn't love paying the extra money when I have the Deluxe and the electronic version was only really for convenience (which wouldn't have been needed had they purchased their own Passporters), it did help me a lot with getting information to them in a timely fashion and well organized manner. We may try to download info to hubby's the palm from the electronic version because they don't really know what they want to do touring wise still

Hi Dave

I have previously purchased the Passporter and find them extremely informative and easy to use.

Earlier this year I purchased the 2008 version to start my planning for our trip in October. Its amazing how much can change in the parks within a year.

As the 2009 version is due to be released very close to our departure date, if the 2009 was available electronically I would prefer to take the 2009 version with me rather than the 2008.

For me, the e-book version allows me to take the sections of the Passporter that I will need for my vacation rather than take the whole book. This year we won't be staying on Disney property. So we will only need reference to the parks and restaurants.

With reference to use of pockets that the published Passporters have, they are a great addition to keeping all the little keepsakes such as park maps, receipts etc, in one place. However for the e-book readers, I don't feel that the "missing" pockets would be a problem. Knowing that the published version does have these pockets and the Deluxe version is available to add and remove additional pockets is good referencing tool within an e-book.

I will be looking to purchase a Deluxe Passporter in the near future, the pricing and delivery for International sales are reasonable and expected.

Thanks for creating the Passporter series. I would be lost without it.

Not trying to be a whistle blower......but is this legal? Is that like making a Xerox copy of a paper book and sending it to someone? Copywright? Just wondering?

but is this legal?
I honestly never thought of that issue, but I can't imagine what would be illegal about it. I have let other ppl borrow my passporter to help make decisions on Resorts, Food, and Parks, and that is all I did with the two family members we're travelling with. I even had to buy 2 books to do it since I have the Deluxe and had no personal need for the electronic version.

I emailed what I was looking for to the store, and no one ever told me that there was a problem. In my mind it's like letting them borrow my version to make decisions, except they live too far away for me to get my print copy back in a timely fashion. I did not send them the book. Just explanations of the 2 resorts they were debating between, the checklists for attractions, and descriptions of food options. I re-read my post above and I can see where it sounds like I sent them the book itself, but all I sent them was a couple of pages in checklists out of the electronic version.

If there is a legality issue with what I did, I hope one of the Marxs will let me know, although of course it is already done now

I pre-ordered the 2009 PassPorter and received the 2008 PP online and I LOVE IT! I order the refills for my deluxe each year but would rather get it electronically and only print out a hard copy of what I need. That way I can be "green" and up-to-date at the same time

I only order new PassPockets when I'm actually taking a trip and would do the same thing with an electronic version of the book.

Please release the PP books electronically

I would love the electronic version as a supplement to my hard copy. I am in the beginning planning stages of a trip for next summer. We are currently at 4 adults and 3 kids. Having an electronic version would allow me to continue my planning while also allowing them to borrow my hard copy. It would also allow me to make changes directly to my worksheets while we are all sitting around during a game night or planning session.
