Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Opinions for BBB???

We are trying to decide which package to do for DD5. She is kinda picky about her costumes being scratchy so I'm wondering if the dresses you get at BBB have scratchy seam work or not. We got a Cinderella dress from Toys R Us for $20 once and she complained whenever we had her wear it that it was too scratchy. My other issue with some dresses is the glitter on them. We got her a Belle dress from the online disney store a couple years ago and it was covered with glitter. The dress was great but the glitter got EVERYWEAR and did every time she wore it. It got all over us too at MNSSHP whenever we had to carry her. I am obviously not a fan of glitter! So long story short I'm wondering about the quality of the BBB dresses and if they are worth the money. One other quesion...does anyone remember what dresses cost what? I mean do they have a lower price option and higher price option for each princess? I saw on Allears that the price range is $180-$250 and I'd hate to get there and say no you can't have the princess you want because it cost the most money. Sorry so long, but I would appreciate any help and opinions from anyone who has done BBB to help us make our decision.

You can buy the dress in advance at the shops in disney to make sure they don't scratch. If I remember they were between 65-85. You can also try buycostumes.com and e-bay. If you have a disney store near you, she could try it on before you buy it. They do let you bring in your own dress and pay for a lesser package.

My DD was 8 last year, so she was sort of in between sizes. When we got to DW, I looked around and found a pink gingham sleeveless dress with Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella on it. Walt Disney World was sewn on the bottom and the princesses were sewn on also. It was gorgeous! I paid about $35 for it in the Contempory Resort gift shop. I did find the same dress at World of Disney. We also got the pink & purple mickey crocs to go with it. I wondered if she would be as happy with that instead of a costume, and she was happier with the dress. We had many compliments on the dress. It was comfortable for her and she was able to wear it many times after the trip.

We are going again in a couple of months and I will make the same choice again.

Some of the best advice we received prior to our first trip with our children was to buy the costumes ahead of time. Wow, at BBB the same dress would have cost us like 5x what we paid for it on sale because we took our time and looked. My daughter also was wearing Enchanted slippers and none of the CMs had seen any before, each commented on how nice they were and how much better made than most of the Princess slippers they saw.

Definitely buy ahead of time to save money and headaches with fitting, quality, etc.

DD was 3 when we did BBB (2006). I purchased the biggest makeover with the photos. The Princess Aurora dress was around $65 and it scratched her and that is all she wrote! DD refused to wear it so we did the photos with what she had on which defeated the purpose of the whole package! I won't even go into detail on her inability to smile for these photos! (If you watched the Friends episode where Chandler couldn't smile for the engagement shot, you will understand!) The photographer couldn't stop laughing!
All in all, the experience was worth every penny to me because I still have vivid memories of that fiasco and still laugh when I look at DD's picture! It took 4 months for DD to try the dress again and so the $65 was not a wash!

We did the BBB for our 4 year old on June 11th of this year. THe dresses were $65 if bought off of the rack. My daughter picked Belle and she didn't complain at all about the scratch, they are very soft inside. YES, glittery but that doesn't bother me. If glitter bothers you, you may want to skip the experience. The 'fairy godmother' sprinkles about 2 pounds of glitter onto their hair and it took about 2 weeks of daily washing to get it out! I'm NOT exaggerating.

If you do the large package (castle?) you get a discount on the hair, nails and make-up. Those alone is now $55, and those with the outfit was about $46. The whole bill (before the tip) was about $210. I agree that it was worth every penny. DD talks about it every day and we love look at the pictures!

Sorry I can't help with quality and prices. What I can tell you comes from our experience last fall...DD and I went to the restroom to change her into her "gown". Now granted the restroom is 25 feet from BBB (at DTD, not sure about castle), but once we got in we saw that there were dressing rooms inside the BBB. live and learn!

I think you would be safer buying the dress in advance. That way, you will know if she finds it too "scratchy". You will probably save some money as well. She will love the BBB! Have a great time.

I think it's totally worth it. I did the hair and make up for myself last year and I'm 23!
