As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). In hindsight, what is something (s) that you really needed for your baby that you didn't register for? Or something you needed more of that you didn't register for enough of? My Dsil is going to be registering soon and she is a first timer and she's bringing her mom (Dmil) who never registered and gave birth 30 years ago!!

I never once used my Diaper Genie, and what I did not register for was a first aid kit for babies, it has Mylacon(sp?), baby Tylenol, and all other kinds of things. Also I loved this bedding it was very pricey ($500.00++) my mom bought it for me. Stupid...my daughter used it for a 1 1/2 years and it was never used again. Diapers you will always need them and I also loved the NB gowns. Super easy to change thema nd they stay warm. Hope this helps
I never had a baby shower, so I didn't register for anything. I did, however, end up winning a $500 baby gift package from Wal-Mart when I was pg with Jalen It included a digital thermometer, which I loved and used a lot. I loved our Diaper Genie. Went through 2 of them with both kids. Refills would have been nice, too.

I didn't have a shower so I didn't register for anything either. If I had I would have definitely registered for Diaper Genie refills. Like Tina, we used our two a lot!
I never registered either when DD was born. I thought the baby swing that I had was indispensible. I used that almost from day one as DD loved to be upright and looking around. She seemed to really like the motion of the swing, also. As far as things I could have used more of: receiving blankets as DD was always spitting up on them. Also more clothes in larger sizes would have been nice. Everyone always buys a ton of newborn things which the babies grow out of almost instantly. Having larger sizes (and making sure they are season appropriate) definitely helps out down the road. Then just the normal things like diapers, wipes, bottles etc are always useful.
Diapers, baby wipes, a baby thermometer, bottles, bibs, a baby bath tub, wash cloths, bodysuits (I think that's what they're called, we call them "onesies" - we'd get 3 packs from Target), hand towels (especially to hang over your shoulder while the baby burps ). Don't forget about a good car seat, stroller, crib, playpen, high chair, baby monitor, gates for stairs etc
Actually the one thing I really wished I'd had when I had my son, was an ottoman! Especially for those late night wake up calls.
I my diaper genie and don't know what I'd do without it - just make sure you get DG II instead of the original: the design is much better at keeping the stink out!! I agree with the swing - DS wouldn't sleep unless he was on me or in the swing, so I was grateful to have it for the first few months of his life. One of the best things I ever got was a nursing blanket that was light weight and big enough to cover my shoulder, my back and baby. I got too many receiving blankets and too many clothes for the 0 - 3 month phase. Practically the only thing both my kids wore for the first few months were the sleeper sacks - they are so easy to change diapers in (which she'll feel like she does morning, noon and night)!
One item I wish I had registered for but did not: the travel diaper changing pad!!!
Now let me tell you a little something that I learned through trial and error on the changing pads. You need a big one, because as the child gets bigger, so will the space in which you need to change. And if you've ever really looked at the baby changing stations in public restrooms, trust me - you're gonna' want full coverage! You can get really nice plasticy kind of diaper changing pads (but spend a little more money on the right one), or you can get the cloth kind. I do not recommend that you invest in the disposable kind - the kid will wiggle right around and through it! The cloth sort you can toss into the washer which is much better for accidents, but the pasticy types are easier to wipe down with gel hand sanitizer if you're on the go. It comes down to personal preference, really. You can get them anywhere, but open it up to make sure it will be big enough for a kid who is 1 1/2, not just a newborn! You'll also want one that is expandable so you can put 2 - 3 diapers, wipes, butt paste (if needed) and hand sanitzer in it.

PS> I agree with the ottoman, too. If she is going to nurse the baby, she'll want a comfortable rocking chair and ottoman or a footstool. I can't tell you how many times I feel asleep nursing my babes, so a comfy chair is worth the $$.

I thought I could get away without having the baby carrier that automatically snaps into the car seat base. We just got a car seat for an infant with the cloth insert for his head. I wish I had that carrier.
The thing I DID register for with DD, but HATED, was my Diaper Genie. OH and a baby wipes warmer.
I really wish I would have registered for more diapers, formula and a sling carrier . . . I definitely rectified that situation with my latest registry. Those were the 3 things I put on FIRST.
Must haves for me have been the digital thermometer (one that works fast), sling, diapers, wipes, bathtub, portable swing, exersaucer, gates, high chair, stroller, carseat, a good diaper bag, and my Bumbo. I got a co-sleeper with my third DD and I don't know how I lived without it before. It's so convenient for night nursing and the baby has her own space, she's not in my bed! A good breast pump is invaluable if she plans to nurse. I bought the $300+ Medela one 6 years ago and it's still going strong. None of my 3 girls have had a drop of formula thanks to that thing.
We gave away our wipes warmer after about 6 months since we barely used it. I also got too many clothes in the 0-3 & 3-6 month range that they outgrew way too quickly. And I hardly used the fancy Pooh bedding set that we were given.

A good breast pump is invaluable if she plans to nurse. I bought the $300+ Medela one 6 years ago and it's still going strong. None of my 3 girls have had a drop of formula thanks to that thing.
Same here! The Medela pump was a lifesaver when I went back to work. I nurse both kids until they were almost 2 years old. They quit nursing before the pump and I did
My advice to every expecting mother: Ask people to WAIT until after the baby is born.
I found I didn't need most of the junk I had.
She'll need:
Diapers, wipes, baby onesies and nightgowns and pjs. A couple of outfits, a sling, cloth diapers for burp pads (don't buy those silly, "burping pad" ones - they're not big enough), bedding, and a car seat.
There is nothing I can think of that I wanted and didn't have. There is a long list of things I had but never used.
Is she going to be nursing? My mother gave me this book, before DS was born and it saved my life! I've purchased copies through the years for my friends that were going to try it. A friend of mine, who is on maternity leave, stopped in last week and said that book was the best thing she's received!!
Other than that, I've also bought diaper bags and filled them with the baby wash, wipes, etc, but then I've also put in shower gel, scented powder & lotion for the mom. Those have always been a big hit with the moms - you just don't feel very 'fresh' after having a baby.

I'd say diapers are always needed (just not too many of the small sizes in case it's a big baby). Digital thermometer a must
