Celebrating an anniversary in Disney when it isn't the date of your anniversary - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Celebrating an anniversary in Disney when it isn't the date of your anniversary
Question about telling Disney you are celebrating your anniversary when it it is your celebration but is no longer planned on the date of your anniversary. Do you they care if you do this? Up until this week we had an anniversary trip planned on our anniversary in October for the Food & Wine Festival. I haven't given up yet, but it doesn't look good as we now have a family trip going for September during the free dining period.
My BIL and SIL will be celebrating 10 years in August, us in Oct, and In-laws in December. When booking packages for everyone I told them that we'll be all be celebrating anniversaries together (which is true) during this trip. I have planned one private dinner for only hubby and I and had them mark the ressie as anniversary. We have a family dinner planne later in the trip that I had marked as a celebration for the other two couples.
I am also planning to have some kind of anniversary welcomes in their rooms as surprises when they arrive, and perhaps try to come up with another idea for each of them as this will be our presents to them in addition to our own trip.
For some reason today I got to wondering if Disney would be upset if they realized that we will not actually be there on the dates of ANY of our anniversaries though we will be celebrating at this time.
Does anyone know if there is a problem with doing this?
I don't see why they should, they don't ask for exact date, and they don't ask to see the license so, what is the harm....perhaps it is best not to celebrate all 3 the same meal...let each couple have their special "day" during trip.
We are travelling in December (17-24), our anniversary is actually on the 27th, but we don't plan to celebrate ours this trip as my parents are going too and their anniversary is their 55th and though it is actually July 4th, we plan on celebrating in December. WE have celebrated ours on prior trips that did not take place on the exact day (ours is on Dec. 27th and we left to go home on the 24th due to family holiday celebrations). We also are celebrating hubby's 60th birthday during trip (he turnbs 60 on Nov. 16th) and especially celebrating my dad's 80th birthday (he turned 80 on April 18th)...Yes we are celebrating several occasions during trip, each celebration will get its own day and table service meal (yep we will notify when making adrs.).
Sorry so long...but just wanted to show that you don't have to celebrate on the exact day!
Nope, they don't care. DH & I celebrated our anniversary on a trip in September, even though our actual anniversary is in October. However, we were unable to get to WDW in October and the trip was our anniversary gift to each other.
We also were celebrating our anniversary at the same time with friends who's anniversary is only a few days away from ours, also in Oct. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at LeCellier and they brought both of us couples a complementary dessert as a gift!

Disney doesn't seem to mind/care if you celebrate anniversaries and/or birthdays on a date other than the "correct" one! I highly recommend getting the Anniversary buttons from Guest Services - I believe they're the same regardless of which park you visit.
I agree that the couples in your group might each want to celebrate their day during a different meal - that way they get all the extra attention! Please note that any "extras" you might receive from CM's are at their or managements' discretion - but I'm sure you'll get plenty of "Congratulations!" wishes.
They don't ask for proof. But don't expect anything.
DH and I were at WDW for our 10th anniversary and we had the buttons. We also had it noted on a couple of our more significant ADRs. I think we had about 6 CM's wish us happy anniversary as we went through ride lines.
We got a certificate at Liberty Tree tavern -- where dessert was included anyway.
That was it. It was actually rather disappointing to tell you the truth.
Oh, sorry about your disappointment especially for such a significant anniversary! We celebrated an anniversary at Disney several years ago and were extremely happy with the perks, but because we are all celebrating we are planning to be much more low key. We may only get buttons for ourselves the one day we'll be by ourselves for dinner and EMH.
Can you only get the buttons at Guest Services at the parks? I was wondering if I could get them somewhere when we arrive (we'll get in first) because I was thinking of including them in some baskets I want to make up for the other couples. Isn't it unfair that the planner never gets anyone to do anything for them
Oh well at least the planning is really fun to me!
Disney doesn't ask for correct dates. I'm sure they realize not everyone can celebrate on actual days due to school or work schedules. We will be going to WDW in June and celebrating our anniversary on Thurs even though it's on that Wed, and each of our kids will celebrate their birthday on one day. DD2 on Fri, DD16 on Sat and DD12 on Sun. I even ordered a cake at dinner for each because we won't be having a party at home and their bdays are in July, August, Sept. and all 6 weeks apart.
No it should not be a problem. We had our trip last year planned for our Anniversary in November, but my husband could not get off of work for those dates, so we had it moved up to September. We got Anniversary Pins, and every night I had a little Anniversary surprise sometimes names on our menus, or our wedding picture on the menu at Narcoosssees, the diver at Coral Reef, a surprise cake at R&C, a Wishes Cruise, etc. Just a bunch of little stuff to make it super special. We had 10 nights of meals, so each night represented a year.
Disney understands not everyone can be there on the exact date of their celebration.
Our trip was called our 10th Anniversary trip, because we had planned for it for about 5 years.
So go all out and do not worry about it!!!! Congratulations!!!!
But this year we will be at Disney on our actual Anniversary date, and I am very excited about that.
The CMs will tell you (if you admit that it's not ACTUALLY your special day) that it "counts" at Disney.
In terms of the special things that might happen, I always go with the idea that I will make our magic and we'll have a good time because we're together at my favorite place. If the CMs or other guests (or hotels or dining places) make some magic for us, that's a bonus.

Disney definitely doesn't mind. We celebrated our 25th anniversary two Junes ago, which was a month and half before our actually anniversary. We were treated very special throughout our Wonder cruise and visit to WDW.

What a great idea! I'm wanting to go back for our 10th anniversary next May, just the two of us. I may "steal" your idea, if you don't mind! We won't be able to go for 10 nights, but if we went 5 nights I could still work out 10 special meals somehow...

We did this for our thirtieth wedding anniversary and Disney was wonderful about it. We ended up getting lots of special little anniversary surprises all through the entire trip. So no, Disney doesn't seem to care when your actual anniversary date is - they are still more than happy to help you celebrate.
