Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Your first DLP visit

When was your first visit to Disneyland Paris?

Mine was in April 1994. I was staying in Paris with a friend from university with my then boyfriend and we did a day trip out to the park. It was unbelievably cold and we froze all day long. It really wasn't a good introduction to the place at all. :

Ours was in February 1996, Allan booked to take me away for Valentines day. He booked 3 nights at The Cheyenne but they were overbooked and we got upgraded to Newport Bay. It was freezing cold and it snowed.

I first went to DLP in March 1996. I'd been nagging my parents to go there ever since I saw its grand opening on TV (in 1992!) so they finally gave in It was me, my parents and my best friend. We stayed for 5 days, out of which only one was spent in the city of Paris - leaving two full days plus the arrival/departure day at DLP!!! It was an awesome experience for me as it was the first Disney park I'd ever been to. That's probably why DLP will always hold a special place in my heart. The weather was ok (cold but no rain). I remember being completely mesmerized by all the magic and pixie dust Disney knows so well to spread

We went in June of 2002 with DDs (18,8,4 at the time) and another family (mom, dad, 2 girls 18 and 8, and 2 boys 16 and 12). We had a wonderful time, although didn't know before we went that the mom and the girls were terrified of ANY moving ride, and also that the whole family didn't get the "magic". This same family went to WDW a year before and HATED it, should have been my clue.
We spent 4 or 5 days there (I truly don't remember - I was jet-lagged!). We stayed at Disneyland Hotel (I think that's what it's called - the one with the gate in it) and were just pampered beyond belief!
RnR Coaster had just opened, and there were NO lines! We (DH, me, the boys, and my older girls) just ran around the place - in line, on ride, off ride, run to front, in line, on ride, off ride, run to front..............
I'm going back this May by myself, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Our first trip was in April of '92. Right after it had opened, it was called EuroDisney. We were living in Germany at the time and took a long weekend trip to Paris. DS Dan was 13 at the time, and this was his first trip to a Disney Park, so he was hooked from that point on. We rode everything, had our very first Turkey leg, Mickey Mouse shaped pizza. We all had a wonderful time, except that we went with some friends who complained the whole time . They didn't go on any rides, didn't know that POTC was a ride, they only walked a few feet inside and decided they did not like it.... They complained about the hotel room, the boat ride down the Seine, it was in the evening and Paris was beautiful, they just did not like anything on that trip.

But Grumpy, DS and I still have wonderful memories of that trip..... We still have Benetton t-shirts that say EuroDisney on them. DS still has the Mickey hand gloves that was the only thing he wanted to buy. I also have a scarf with Mickey allover it in shades of black, white and blue and it says EuroDisney.

Hoping that we can get to back soon!

Talking ...memories

my first DLP visit was 11 years ago when I was 13. my most memorable moment was the haunted mansion. this was the first time i had been to a disney park since i was about 6. during that visit, my dad convinced me to go on haunted mansion. it scared the heck out of me!!! so when i went to DLP i was intent to ride this. I rode it about 5 times!!! and now it is one of my favorites!...good times!

Spring of 1999 or 2000. My sister is a world traveler, and is always on me to get off the continent. I told her I'd meet her somewhere in Europe - we settled on 3 nights in Madrid, an overnight train to Paris, and 3 nights in Paris. I insisted on DLP - she reluctantly agreed. She is one of those folks who, once she has been somewhere, rarely goes back - there are just too many wonderful places in the world to spend time on repeats! Anyway, we hopped the train from Paris to DLP for the day, and had a GREAT time - she even admitted that she liked it this time around So DLP has a double-your-pleasure remembrance for me: a great time, and a "see, I told you so!" to my sister!

Mine was in 98 during World Cup. I don't remember too many details, but I do remember that I loved it. Space Mountain was amazing and I remember sitting in the same car as these two young girls from Scotland that we talked with in the queue. Afterwards, they bought the picture taken during the ride and had us autograph it as we were the first americans they ever met. Other than that, I just have general memories: the park was exceptionally clean, the lines were short (except the Indiana Jones roller coaster...that was very long), and the people were friendly, guests included.

Only just seen this but will still reply!
My first trip was in the early summer of 2000.
I'd been made redundant and decided to use a bit of my pay off to take myself and my younger DD who was 14 at the time. We stayed at the Newport Bay Club hotel. We had a wonderful time - the weather was lovely, and it was a really relaxed visit. Favourite memories include the walks to Park past the lake in the early morning sunshine, and trying the Blue Lagoon for the first time. One day we had a Good Morning Fantasyland breakfast, and after admiring a deserted FL and riding PPF four times in a row we wandered through the Castle - and from that elevated postion we had an un-nerving view of what looked like a million people heading towards us down Main Street - the gates had just opened!
I got home after the trip to find a letter on the doormat offering me a new job - Disney Magic or what!

July of 2000..... I was at Spangdhalem AFB and took a bus trip to Paris, which gave you a day at DLP. Being by myself, I was able to do everything. The parade, which I normally skip, had some fantastic music. I was sure that music would pop up at either WDW or DL, but it never did. I still have the CD though. I also loved the dragon under the castle! I really enjoyed it and thought the castle, next to Cinderella's Castle at WDW was really well done. Did get to go again a year later, but have not been there since.

It was the last trip I took before I got married. I went just before Christmas with my aunt and my cousins. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel on DVC points which included park passes at that time.
