As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Who's got plans to visit Disneyland Resort Paris in 2009?
If you plan on going, then tell us when, how long for and where you're planning on staying and how many times (if any!) you've visited the resort before. The topic will be sticky for people to post their plans as they make them!
I am going!
Actually, it will be my husband and I going for our 10th wedding anniversary. We are doing France, England and Ireland for 2 weeks (with no kids!) We haven't set a date yet, but it will probably be May or June. Have never been before and have no idea where we'll be staying. Lots of planning to do still! Since we have so much we want to see in such little time, visiting Disneyland Paris will only be for a day. But, that's okay. Better one day then none!

It gets very crowded at DLP on the weekends (plus any national holidays - there'll be a few in May/June). Best days to visit are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Thanx so much for that tip. Good to know. Guess it's like any other theme park. Avoid weekends and holidays if at all possible.

We are plannig a Euorpean adventure in late July early Aug. next year. DH and I were married in Germany in 1991; while he was stationed there with the Army. We have always wanted to take the DD's to Germany and Europe in general. We will be flying Space A so it will be a real adventure with a very loose itenerary. But we are DEFINTELY going to DLP. We went in 1993 and cannot wait to take the girls. Any tips on driving from Rothenburg o.d.t. GE to Paris will be GREATLY appreciated. We were fortunate enough to go on a tour the last time we went to Paris , so we do not have experience driving in France. We have already started our passport apps and plan to get our iternational drivers licenses soon. We want to stay at least one night on property. See ya real soon.
Hi coasties, sounds like an awesome trip you're planning! You'll have to figure in around 6 hours to get from Rothenburg o.d.T. to DLP. It's a fairly easy drive, though - mostly only one Autobahn Driving on the freeways in France is a piece of cake - driving in the city of Paris not so much You won't have to drive through there to get to DLP, though. If you want to see Paris as well, I suggest taking public transportation because, honestly, I was scared to death the last time we drove around Paris by car ourselves Be prepared to be honked at a lot more often than you're used to. DLP is very easy to find, though.

Thank you for the info. I had figured on taking the train into the city from DLP. Looking at staying 3 days/2nights at DLP so that should be doable. Any idea on the tolls between Rothenburg and DLP? Also, would it be better to stay off site? Our decision to rent a car for the two weeks was driven mostly by wanting to stay in local guesthouses/hotels so the girls will be immersed in the culture wherever we land. So, if they would get "more" out of staying somewhere besides on property we are game for that. Besides we always stay on property at WDW so they have been there done that LOL. If off-property is a better option, do you have any suggestions , or anyone else here for that matter. How about the train fare? It has been sooo long since we were in Europe Thank you again for all your advice tips and info.!
There are a few nice off property resorts right by DLP that even have complimentary shuttle busses to the parks. An inexpensive but charming option would be the Kyriad hotel, which is made to look like a farmhouse or small village in rural France. Also, the Holiday Inn is beautiful on the outside (looks like a French manor) - it's got a circus theme inside. If it's "real-life" France you're after, though, you need to stay a little further away from the Disney parks since the resorts close to it are primarily geared towards foreign tourists. Hope this helps a bit?
I can't help you with the tolls, sorry. There are no toll roads in Germany, and in general, tolls in France aren't too bad.
Thank you for the info. We want to stay in something similiar to a German Guesthaus (sp). Do they have something like that in France? Like I said we have only been on tours to Paris and stayed at chain hotels both times. When we lived in Germany we loved to just go exploring and find a Guesthaus to stay in. Also can you recommend a good one in Rothenburg as well??? One other thing LOL...our German is pretty good and served us well in France in 1993 ( I just aged myself) we have sketchy French and plan on brushing up before our trip. Do you think reverting to German if we need to wil be better received than English if the need arises LOL. We found people were generally nicer to us if we were speaking German at DLP last visit. Just curious. We try to live by the adage "When in Rome..."

As far as languages are concerned, I speak both German and English whenever I'm at DLP but never noticed any difference in treatment whatsoever. The French prefer, well, French over any other language so a little French is always good to know. Other than that, though, I'd stick with English - especially at DLP.
