Ugh....

There is a skunk in our neighborhood a friend saw one go across our lawn a week ago but there was no "signs" of it then. Well about 10 minutes ago I swear i was really questioning whether I needed stronger deodorant because I could smell something!

Well go towards our kitchen and Yep definitely a skunk!!!!!!!!!! EWWWWW this is awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Pepe Le Peu didn't need to visit thats for sure nor leave any souvinears for us to smell later!

There used to be one that lived under our next door neighbor's patio....in a little den it scratched out of the dirt.....we lived in an apartment and they were our "across the hall" neighbors on the first floor. At night, the car lights would reflect on the critter's eyes if he was home....so you knew if you needed to be "careful" getting into the building.

You'll probably think I'm strange, but generally, I don't find the odor THAT offensive. But I grew up in the country for most of my "developmental" years, and maybe it's just road-kill conditioning........

Not any recently but now that I said that there will be. I do remember when we had our first dog though he got skunked and there really isn't anything that gets the smell out.

Up until 2 summers ago, we had one that I swear lived in our backyard, but we could never find any signs of it. Occasionally we would see it 'appear' in the backyard when we'd be sitting out on the deck. The worst times were when it must have been in the front yard & we had a fan on in the bed room window. That smell would come into the room and our eyes would water it was so bad. P U!!!

We have been smelling one the past few weeks but have not seen it. When I was a kid, we had an all black cat who went out doors all the time. She made friends with a skunk

It was kinda cute though, you would see our cat walking down the street followed by a skunk or vice versa

We think it may have been a pet at one time cause we could feet it from our hands. Either that, or the skunk saw that his friend ( our cat) was ok with us, so he was

Janine, your post just reminded me......one of my teaching assistants had a pet skunk when she was a girl. It obviously had it's 'stink gland' removed. It's name was Stinky.

Not unless someone runs over one. That skunk smell is the worst...it really makes my stomach turn.

I actually don't mind the smell that much. I mean, just like any general odor, I wouldn't want one living in my backyard where I would have to smell it all the time. But it doesn't bother me as much as it does DBF.

I saw a show on the Discovery Channel a few years ago about people that love the smell of skunk. They even buy and sell skunk oil and wear it as a kind of cologne!

At least you didn't hit it with your car. I did that once....and even after 4 car washes you could smell it!

My friend's dog got sprayed IN THE MOUTH by a skunk. EEEWWWW...even after two baths (my friend is a professional groomer) Sophi still stunk a week later!

We have a few in the area, but they only seem to stink when they'v gotten too close to a car tire.

We live in the country, so skunks are around a lot. Our dog (an outdoor dog) gets sprayed fairly regularly. We don't even bathe her afterwards as she just "rolls" it off in the dirt. The only time the smell really bothers me is when it's fresh, and then it makes my eyes water! After it has settled a bit, it's just another one of those country smells .... like cattle, pigs, etc.

They are all over the place in this country (mostly rabid) . I can smell one about once a week at my house.

There is one on the roads I travel at least a couple times a week (road kill )

We've got a nice big fat one trundling up the hill to our garden. It ate our sunflowers. It tries to take down the corn stalks. It sprays the raccoons who compete with it for the sunflower. Oh yeah. It's awesome. I can't tell you how many times I have been woken in the middle of the night by the stink of a fresh spray - the scent being pulled into our room via the window air conditioner! P-U! I don't mind the smell too much, but I can't stand it when I smell it in the middle of the night!
