As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

My husband might be getting transfered to Atlanta, we currently live in the burbs of Chicago. We both have grown up here and enjoy the warmer months. Atlanta seems to be a bit cheaper to live, houses, taxes etc... I am little nervous, we have 2 kids, DS 8 and DD 6, I worry how they would be with a new enviroment.
How has ur family dealt with a transfer? Thanks for any advice!
We've never moved that far - but we have moved our kids from one school system to another.
As young as your kids are, they'll be fine. Personally, I think that the more you try to make sure that they don't suffer, the more they suffer. I have friends who have moved either here or away, and made clean breaks - as in, nice to hear from you and nice to contact you, but we're not worried about keeping in touch all the time. Other friends have done the keeping in touch, having their kids have huge "going away" parties for and with friends, and then sending their kids here (or there) to visit "old friends" for weeks at a time.
Seems the kids whose parents are more laid back about the whole thing cope better. Yeah, at the Middle School level and higher, they might not - but kids who are 6 and 8 should be fine.
I'd maybe be sure to reassure them that you'll go visit family on occassion (I'm assuming that since you both grew up around there, you'll leave extended family behind?) and that while you do that, maybe you can visit with old friends too.

We have moved coast to coast and half way back. We love moving around the country.
We have grew up in California, moved to Columbia SC, back to California then to Texas (3 moves here) I guess we are adventurous. If you make it fun and look at it as a big fun adventure you should enjoy a totally new environment. The south is very different from Chicago.

I'm an Army brat. I can tell you that the kids will make of it what YOU make of it. If you look at it like a whole new adventure and spend time learning and exploring your new city, they will take it in stride. If you go in dreading it, then so will they. We had an inherent understanding that we went where the Army told us to go, so getting upset or whining about it was counter-productive. "We're moving to Germany in 2 months" was quite matter-of-fact.
As far as moving away from friends, that's a part of life. My parents would exchange Christmas cards with some of the people they'd met, but the kids rarely stayed in touch. You move on, you make new friends. At 6 & 8, I think it's much easier than at, say, 12 or 13 (believe me, that's the worst time to move from a foreign country! )
Also, brace yourself for culture shock. Atlanta will be NOTHING like Chicago. People will "talk funny" and be super friendly most of the time. Georgia is a beautiful, charming place to live, but it is a far cry from what you're used to. I moved to NE Ohio from Oklahoma...reverse shock! Just try to adapt without looking at people too funny.
DDs have never moved and they just asked me how many times I moved in my life. By the time I was 30, I had moved 18 times. and I turned out OK. Mostly.
Kids adjust well. At first they may be upset to be leaving their home and their friends, but they will be fine. Make sure to include them, if possible, in picking out a new home. When we moved to a different town, I think DD was more upset to be leaving the house she grew up in than leaving her friends. You can also remind them that you are moving closer to WDW. Good luck!!
