Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

my hubbie\'s first visit

Hello to all fellow WDW fans! My husband and I are heading to WDW 9/27 to 10/6 to celebrate our first anniversary and his first trip to the most magical place on earth. My mom and sister are meeting up with us toward the end of our trip to celebrate my sister's birthday, and they'll stay a few days after we leave.
We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge, and my sister and I are getting VERY excited! My husband thinks we are a little nuts about Disney (it's a very special memory we share from growing up together).

What suggestions do you have for making my husband's first trip extra special? Any anniversary suggestions? Thanks!

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

You might want to arrange a special "event" with Gifts of a Lifetime. I'm planning something for my dh and ds for our Christmas trip. You can fill out a questionnaire at Jane's website and she can give you ideas.

Have a great time and Happy Anniversary, too!

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Welcome to the PassPorter Boards goofy! My DH and I celebrate our anniversaries at at WDW every year and here are some of our tips!

<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>You are staying at a great resort. Make it a point to dine at Wilderness Lodge, take a late night hot tub and take advantage of turndown service for that special feeling (i.e. the chocolate ).

<LI>Make sure you mention that you are celebrating an anniversary when you make all of your reservations and Priority Seatings. (Check out our trip report S&S Varney's Best Trip Ever!! in the trip reports section for our Anniversary trip at the WL this past November.)

<LI>Make sure to involve your DH in the planning. Have him go through your PassPorter and highlight the things he really wants to see.

<LI>Since this is his first trip he has never been on the monorail. Take the boat from the WL to the Contemporary. At the Cont monorail station, put on a big Mickey Grin , explain that it is your DH's first time and could you ride in the front? You may have to wait but it's worth it and the boat rides from the WL are our favorite method of transportation to MK and the Cont.[/list]
Let me know if you have any more questions and enjoy your trip!!

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Welcome to the PassPorter Message Boards goofeyforWDW!

Belle* gave some good suggestions. My husband too thinks I am nuts but slowly I am getting him into the swing of things. We are going together for the 3rd year in a row AT HIS REQUEST I usually go down with friends.

I would say DON'T push him. If he feels like going back to the resort to rest or swim by all means let him! (now if we were staying at the WL I would be the one wanting to go back to the resort....I love that place! In the mornings we would head for a park and when he said he had enough, back to the resort to let him rest up a bit. Then come evening, he was ready to be on the go again.

If you can, give him a tour book to look over and maybe he will show some interest. Also you can go to dwills site and check out the different Restaurants & menus If you see any that interest you, print them out and set them in front of him.... he will look at them trust me.

HAPPY PLANNING! &

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Be careful. I did not want to go for our first trip. "Why should we go all the way to Florida to see an amusement park?" I asked. Well, now I've got it worse than anyone else in the house (Well, maybe my daughters as bad) I'm constantly reading boards like this. I send for every free thing I can get from Disney. My bookshelf in my office upstairs is overflowing with guidebooks and books on Walt, Roy, or just plain Disney. In fact books are piled on the floor.

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Hi and Welcome!! Our December trip will be my hubby's "inaugural" trip as well. I've contacted Jane at Gifts of a Lifetime and she'd dreaming up something wonderful, I'm sure! I 'm soooo jealous that you'll be at the Wilderness Lodge! It's my dream resort, you know. We chose ASMo for this trip for 2 reasons (1) our ds will absolutely love it and (2) I don't mind having extra money for goodies!!

Have a great trip!

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Goofy,

As a formerly reluctant DH, allow me to give a small piece of advice: Get your DH some MM ears!

You would be surprised at how much pleasure many people get out of seeing a grown man (I'm 37) wearing the ears throughout the park. Lots of people that you don't even know will smile at you (and no, they AREN'T laughing), and I assure you, that in turn it will make him smile too.

Bill

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

yes, the mickey mouse ears are a definite. i told him he was getting 'em with his name and he sort of laughed...he doesn't realize i'm making him wear it!!
he really could go either way with WDW. he really likes amusement parks, i just hope the whole world--all 47 square miles of it, and all the theming and characters--won't be too overwhelming for him. once my passporter arrives--(hopefully today!)--i'm going to leave it lying around for him to peruse at his own speed
thanks for all the tips--i'll take any ideas anytime!!

Re: my hubbie\'s first visit

Goofy,

Try to involve him in the planning, but don't shove it down his throat. If he lets himself, he will have a good time no matter what. The thing to remember for him is that WDW isn't about the rides... it is about the wider experience of Disney... for me anyway.

As far as the ears are concerned, I couldn't have the full Disney experience without them. They hafe the further benefit of keeping the sun off of my head (my hair is REALLY short).
