As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
We will be leaving in 19 days for our trip to the world with my three children ages 1, 5, and 11 along with my daughter's best friend also 11. My daughter's friend will be going to Disney for the very first time and there is a good chance that she won't be going back any time soon. Her family does not like Disney after going once about 9 years ago.
I love to do special things for the kids before we leave, along the way and while we are there. I get more excited about all these things than the kids do.
So I am looking for special ways to sprinkle pixies on DD, her BF, and the other kids.
Some of the things I have done so far:

[*]Had SIL mail letters to each of the kids from Florida from a character and enclosed gift cards for souvies, [*]I bought my kids a new suitcase (Dash for DS & a clearanced purple polynesian looking one for DD). Still on the lookout for one for BF,[*] I bought color wonder sets in different Disney characters,[*] I am making activity books with puzzles, mazes, etc,[*] I wrapped small presents in plain white bags to give out as prizes throughout the car ride, [*] I bought the Cars soundtrack to play during the ride,[*] I bought a few Disney t-shirts and back packs for the girls/incredibles pjs for DS, [*] I did pack the kids Mickey Ears and will pick up a pair for BF once we are there.
Does anyone have other ideas of simple, inexpensive things I could do for the kids?

Can you have "Disney movie and game night"? Play Disney clue with the older girls, and watch a disney movie. See if you can find the Sing Along video that is placed in WDW. It's older (about 12 yrs. old) but shows quite a few places that still exist.

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
We will be surprising our kids the night before we leave, so we arent really able to do anything along the way. I am packing each a backpack full of things for the plane ride.
I think it is great that you are taking your DD's friend along and making sure she has all the same fun things waiting for her. That is such a thoughtful thing to do. I applaud you for that. Check the dollar section of Target. They have a lot of great Disney things right now (fat pens, stickers, iron on transfers, etc.)

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
You know, you could get them to make little cards for others who do something special for them during their trip. They can have a whole stack of cards ready to give to a CM who goes over and beyond, a bus driver, the ferry driver, a server, mousekeeping staff, etc. That way, they can sprinkle some of their own pixies on others. Children always feel good when they make others feel good!

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
We just returned today!! I bought matching outfits for our family so each day i had those laid out with the water/fan bottles (I picked them up for $3 at wal-mart) they are about $17 in the park. One day were fun Disney cups, one day were those light up spinny things. Oh and since they did not know we were going until we pulled up a the hotel I had also secretly packed costumes. Bethany

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
I always pack new activities in DS backpack for the flight down. Once there, Tinkerbell always leaves him a pesent every morning (small toy, nothing to expensive) with a message from Tink about how she can't wait to follow him around that day. I use this cake glitter that is yellow as pixie dust and sprinkle that around the toy and note. I also carry it with me during the day and sprinkle it around him when he is not looking. He loves the thought of Tink checking in him.

What a great idea! Dh had some craft glitter in my birthday card last year, and thereafter took to sprinkling it, but the kids could see him doing it...I like your idea even better!

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
Do you have a Libby Lu store near you (or know someone who does)? They actually sell pixie dust with a little applicator so you can literally sprinkle pixies! I have DDs close their eyes (keeps it from getting in them ) and make a wish while I sprinkle them. I carried it in my bag on one trip and whenever they started getting cranky, I told them it was time for a pixie dusting and that usually perked them right up.
If you have any sit-down meals, you can ask that they sprinkle the table with "pixie dust" (Mickey confetti) without the kids hearing for a nice little surprise.

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
What a COOL idea!! We don't have any neat stores like that.
Our 3yo DD love Mary Poppins, so I found her a Mary doll at Target(it's beautiful and inexpensive)so we haven't decided how she's going to get it, but she'll receive it during her breakfast with Mary!
And since we are going in Dec I was going to leave some presents and "pixie dust" in the condo, from Mickey and Tinkerbell.

Re: What do you do to sprinkle pixies for your children?
Thanks for the great ideas.
I found the Tink, princess, and toy story thank you cards and printed some out for each child to give to cast members.
DH is checking into getting karaoke dvds to play in the SUV on the way down.
I'll check Target tomorrow.
