As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Well, this was weird.
Not sure where to post this, but must tell the story. We used the Disney bus from AK back to the AKL last week. First time using the bus, other than our uncrowded trip to the park early that morning. I was slightly ahead of dh and ds, with dd in the stroller. Found the right queue for the AKL bus, and joined--what I thought was the end of the queue. The existing line filled the railed-off space from end to end, but wasn't overflowing in either direction. I saw a flag on a rope across the near end, so figured that was the entry point to the bus--and went to the other end. Didn't look around much, was helping dd in the stroller, watching for dh to find me at the end of the queue. Dh joined me, said, is this the right end, and I explained to him why I had picked that spot...then a few minutes passed and I noticed our end wasn't growing but the other end was! I had completely nonchalantly stepped to the front of the queue. I asked the family in front of us in the line (actually behind us now as it turned out), and she said, yes, this was the front. I was horrified, and said, oh my gosh, you should have said something to me! The party behind that group said they thought we had a fastpass! She was laughing at that point, but clearly had been ticked at us, and hadn't said anything either. I realized when we made our way sheepishly to the end of the line that the flag I had seen was the handicapped gate for the big doors at teh back of the bus.
As a newbie, I didn't have a clue. Maybe I should've asked rather than thinking I had it figured out. Believe me, I did lots of asking thereafter! I guess what really surprised me, though, was that no-one tried to correct me, though when I asked it was clear that my behaviour had irritated them. Maybe they just didn't want to embarrass me, but I was embarrassed by my mistake when I realized it had gone on so long anyway.
Funny that it's still bothering me. I wonder, is it just so difficult for people to point things out without worrying about it becoming confrontational, or are they just trying to stay in their "happy place" and ignore bad behaviour? I guess I still feel the need to expiate my apparently boorish behaviour and have people understand that honest mistakes can be made...

Re: Well, this was weird.
Don't feel bad JoAnne! I have done it many times. Believe me, WDW is one of the most confusing places I have been to when it comes to lines. I often enter the wrong way in the Dumbo queue for some reason!
I am actually quite surprised that no one said anything to you. Most of the time, people are cranky when they are getting on the busses especially.
You'll never see any of those people again so don't let it bother you! It was an honest mistake.

Re: Well, this was weird.
It is an honest mistake, but it would have been nice if someone kindly spoke up. We did this too our first visit and someone let us know in a nice way that we had just bucked the line. Since then, my DH or I have tried to respond in the same way for other newbies. Most have often felt as flustered as we did and you did.

Re: Well, this was weird.
I am suprised no one said anything either. One year when staying at pop and going to join the line after wishes to get back to Pop I was walking past A line I thought was going to the All Stars. Till I was walking past this one guy in line. He yelled if your going to Pop, the end of the line is back there and pointed. Geez, I didn't even try joining the line and he was angry. Ah, I think I would have figured out if I did keep going, I just would have had a longer walk back. I just took a seat on the bench and waited as the line was really long. Funny thing is, he kept yelling at everyone doing the same thing. I almost wanted to tell the guy to chill, they would find out on thier own once they got past the end of the ropes.

Don't feel bad. We almost did the same thing at AK. Those cues to me seem backwards.

Re: Well, this was weird.
Those lines are hard to figure out. I always get messed up when trying to come home from Downtown Disney West Side. You made an honest mistake. No biggie. At least you corrected the problem. I have seem some people do the same thing on purpose.

Re: Well, this was weird.
Don't worry about it - I think the people on the line had the responsibility to "fill you in" as it were...these things happen - at least you had the chance to correct/apologize at that time!!!

Re: Well, this was weird.
I think it shows how decent you are that you are concerned about people's feelings, and that they might be upset at you. Most people are rude and cut the line on purpose! No biggie, you won't do it again I am sure!

Thanks for all the reassurance, everyone, I do feel better! Glad I'm not the only one who's had this trouble figuring out the lines!

Re: Well, this was weird.
I'm sorry that you were embarassed, I know I would feel the same way! I have done so many ridiculous things in Disney by accident, I wont explain!
If I were in the position those people were, I would have just nicely whispered to you that this was the front of the line (and if you had really needed to be there, if there was indeed a disability I wasn't noticing, I would have apologized). Try not to worry about it!

Re: Well, this was weird.
Mostly people just don't feel comfortable confronting others, and I'm sure they don't want to appear that they are queue-managing everyone.
Don't feel bad. It happens to all of us at one time or another!

Re: Well, this was weird.
I wouldn't worry about it. No Harm, No Foul. You apologized when you noticed your error and took the proper place in line. What happens typically is that most people will do exactly what the first group did. Not mention anything, but stare holes through the offenders under the assumption, correct in most cases, that they are being rude, selfish and ignorant and budging the line.
