Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

So glad you loved V&A, but then again, I thought you would!

I can just about live with what Disney did to the original Winnie books, mainly because I get to indulge my love for the donkey by seeing Eeyore, but yep, talk about dumbing things down. I know all about the changes between the language of the original books and the Disney version, as that was my A-Level English language (exams we sit at age 18 over here, the second set of exams and these are the ones that determine which university you go to) project in the early 1990s. I'm sure you can guess I loved doing that project!

Yeah, and you'll all love this Jacuzzi update--

Drew found out from a CL concierge shortly before we checked out this morning that the engineer said that whoever had the room before us had used a bath bomb with the jets running which causes salts and oils in the bomb to clog the pump. It'll work okay that time, but you or the unlucky next guest who tries to turn on the Jacuuuuze after that is "you-know" outta luck.

Just how the < string of horridly non-Disney language omitted > is anyone to know this, HUH? When you aren't even told how to turn on the ferschluggunnuh jets to start with???

Seriously, what did I do first thing upon starting to run water into that sybaritically HUGE tub? Yup. Dropped a big ol' bath bomb in the tub.

Okay, tub rant's over...almost.

I swear, incomprehensible how people are expected to know such essential info. Wave a magic wand, maybe? Assuming you bought or stole one from a Disney fairy.

:::::: stomps back off the thread again, muttering more non-Disney language ::::::

I've checked on the jacuzzi/ bath bomb thing before, having heard of issues in the past. The Basin website specifically says that the bombs are SAFE for Jacuzzis, with the exception of those with non-dissolving particles in them (Mickey heads, stars, hearts, etc!) How hard would it be to affix a sign near the tub??

Just caught up. I am a huge fan of children's literature and want to thank everyone who chimed in on another of my pet peeves. People who attribute classic children's literature to Disney. Most of Disney's early stuff are adaptations of classics. It is only recently that Disney has developed some of their won characters outside of the cartoons.

Mary Poppins is a great series of books, Swiss Family Robinson and the Jungle Book were written long before Disney as well as Winnie the Pooh. Go to the library and check out the original books, they are great. We also read the kids many original fairy tales which are so dark compared to the Disney version and not necessarily aimed at very young children.

Glad you enjoyed V&A's. Have a lovely holiday and stay dry. I am rethinking my trip to NY becuase of a storm coming in.

Time for a nap. Cold front coming in soon. Seeing Osborne Lights may consist of, "Yup, sure do see 'em. That's a lotta lights," and we Dnesses make a beeline for the car to go back to our WL home faster than Buzz Lightyear and all of Star Command.

P.S. I waxed Drew. 121,000 to something like 74,000. He'll get me back on TSMM, I'm sure. Talk about a when I saw my score vs. his halfway through. YAY, ME! ::::::brag, brag::::::
I'm SO glad I got to meet you both! Sorry it was so rushed, we had to scurry down the FP lane. So nice to actually meet in person though. I had hoped to see you, but I was doubtful, given the size of WDW! But sure enough, there you both were.

Hope you had a truly wonderful time. We got home this morning after driving all night. We had the best vacation ever.

Off to read more of your TR.

Thumbs up Update: Terrific Atlanta Diner!

Here I am again raving about good eats--pic to be added when we get home--we had at Atlanta's classic Greek-owned Landmark Diner on Piedmont Rd. not far off GA 400.

The host was quite correct when he remarked to us that thè very best East Coast diners are run by Greeks. Definitely! in our experience, although one such near DH Drew's parents in Princeton, NJ has gone downhill.

We make eating at least one meal here a must-do since discovering the place last year. It's open round the clock with, Drew said, a fantastic moussaka.

He had a standard steak and eggs over easy with grits, so not picturing that as it looked like your ideal succulent breakfast steak done medium with perfect over-easy eggs.

I, on the other hand, had the Charleston Eggs Benedict, and you WILL get to see that plate of excellence. Oh, my, yes indeedy!

English muffin, very fresh and perfectly toasted, absolutely piled with equally fresh shredded crabmeat, topped with two 'zactly soft-poached eggs and a subtly flavored hollandaise. Again, like Kona's, I suspect it was deliberately light on the lemon juice so as not to detract from that magnificent crabmeat, because the whole was topped with a generous scatter of capers for flavor contrast and color.

The only thing that might've enhanced it at all would have been a sprinkle of Old Bay Seasoning.

On the side, inch-wide fried potatoes that beat those on Kona's Samoan which I'd not have thought possible as good as those were. These were better due to more contrast between the tender interior of each chunk and crisply browned exterior just shy of a wee crunch.

MMMMMMMmmmmmmm. I'm not the slightest bit hungry after polishing off well over half of it but drooling again nevertheless. You will, too, when you see this photo. Trust me!

Thanks, Huntermom. Have followed your thread asking advice about travel in the NYC area. We're somewhat apprehensive ourselves about that storm as we're headed to near Princeton, NJ for the holiday.

Doesn't sound like we'll have difficulty getting on home from there on Friday, but my in-laws said the forecast for tomorrow sounds nasty.

[Edit to add: Visibility wasn't terrific due to blowing snow a few times once we got into the Delaware River Gap which is infamous for rotten weather. Highway got a wee bit slushy as we neared Princeton, N.J. but never was dangerously slick. Made it in without incident but had a beast of a time getting from the car on snow-covered sidewalks to the entrance to the in-laws' building where their condo is.

You tell me, does it make ANY sense at all to have a policy that sidewalks will not be cleared unless there has been at least two inches of snow? This for a retirement complex that admits only those 55 and older? Yup, let's force older people somewhat more likely than younger people to break bones due to a fall risk just that on snow-slickened sidewalks. Completely idiotic!
]

Stay home is what I'd do were I you, having nearly gotten stranded in a blizzard years ago when I got off work at 11:30 in a whiteout. I crawled to a stop in zero visibility and realized the car was on the left shoulder a few feet from a bridge abutment. Very scary as it was a much worse storm than predicted, and being a foolish 25-year-old, I had no winter emergency gear.

Roast a turkey and then make turkey scrapple from simmering the carcass. I can post how I make it if you're interested. Yum-YUM! fried in BUTTAH and topped with real maple syrup.

I just finished reading from start to finish and enjoyed your reviews. I am looking forward to the non-abridged version. Enjoy your visit with family and then safe travels home.

I was supposed to be celebrating my birthday whille you were there but suffered at home with pneumonia. I've already rebooked for next year.
