Thank You Disney Movie Rewards PTR (November 16-22, 2014) - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok, I'm all caught up. I keep forgetting to ask you, did you manage to convince Pat to leave at 3 am on Sunday? Chris always tells me no, which is why we ended up leaving the night before and getting a hotel. I'm with you, just jump in the car and get there!

Yes, I convinced him to leave at 3am, as long as I am the one who drives the first leg. Which is fine because once I wake up, I'm up and rarely sleeping for several hours. The kids are good with leaving at 3 because they know they will get In-N-Out Burger for lunch if we do. I want to arrive before 8 so we can get dinner and to bed early for going to Disneyland Monday morning.

I really like that it includes Jamaica, that is somewhere I have always wanted to visit. I can't wait to start counting down for that trip!
In-N-Out Burger must be something pretty special if that is going to get the kids out of bed and on the road at 3 am! We don't have those around here.
We don't have them around here either, which is what makes it special. I think the kids would be okay getting up early either way, but it helps to have something to look forward to part way.
We are officially 9 days from leaving and while I'm relaxed and calm I am sick as a dog!!!
I got over my cold from last week and felt perfectly fine on Monday. Then Tuesday I woke up feeling a little sick again. Different this time with a slight sore throat and stuffy nose. Yesterday I drove to Albuquerque to get our military Disney tickets at the base and by the time I got home I was exhausted. I sat on the couch and watched some tv. I really could have gone to bed at 5:30 but I just didn't want to. By 8:00 I was done and told the kids to go to bed at a reasonable time. I took my temperature and had a mild fever, but I was freezing. I know they say not to bundle up with a fever, but I had to cover up enough to be comfortable. I had two blankets on me, along with two dogs. I finally got comfortable and fell asleep. This morning the dogs woke me about 7 and I let them out and got the kids up. I had the kids take care of the alpacas and their chores. They worked on their schoolwork and I slept until 11:30.
I'm feeling mildly better now and I'm trying to decide if we are making the trek to Roswell for Shana's art class tonight. I really feel like we need to go because she missed last week and was doing a double class tonight. There's a chance she will miss next week and of course she will miss the week after that and then the next week is Thanksgiving. She really wants to go because they are doing clay. I think I am doing okay and it's mostly driving, I will read in the car during her class.
As for Disney stuff other than picking up the tickets yesterday I haven't done a whole lot. I do have most of the toiletries collected, although there are always those things that have to be added at the last minute. Clothes, I'm waiting to pack until probably Thursday when I can do all the laundry and then pack everything up.
I did see something posted on MiceChat with a change to the DAS in Disneyland that will be supposedly going live on November 19th. Which slightly irritates me because we will have the current system 2 of our days and on the last day we have in the park we will have to figure out something new, that will also be brand new to the CM's. It sounds like they are linking it to your park tickets in some way and they will link the others without DAS to the DAS holder.
My concern at this moment is we have to have a DAS for both kids. They both have anxiety/autism issues that make lines difficult, but we don't always all ride the same rides. With the current system (at least in WDW) they gave each kid a DAS and then listed a party of two. If all 4 of us were going to ride the same thing we had them sign both cards. If I was going to ride with Shana and Pat with Hunter on a different ride we had them sign them accordingly.
I'm not sure how they will handle this situation with the new system. It sounds like if this is our situation they would scan Shana's ticket and my ticket for the ride time we are going on and then Hunter's and Pat's for their ride. But I really don't know and I won't have any way to figure it out ahead of time, so we will just have to punt. The good thing is Hunter is riding most rides now and we don't split up nearly as often as we use to. So, hopefully it won't affect us in a negative way on the last day of our trip.
I can't believe we are so close to leaving. I can't wait to get out of here and I hope that by me getting sick before the trip that we will all be healthy on the trip. I have told the kids to stay away from me as much as possible. :roll eyes:

I hope you're right and this illness now will ensure health during your trip. Should work as long as everyone else doesn't get sick, too. What a drag (literally) for you, though. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the DAS situation. Unfortunate that the change will happen during your trip. Yay for single digits! No matter what, you'll soon be there!

Hopefully I will get better quickly. I did go to the doctor this morning and it is the flu. I'm not letting the kids touch me and told them to wash their hands a lot!
It does stink that the DAS change happens in the middle of our trip. That means we will have to go on Friday to switch over when we would have just been able to skip Guest Services that day. I'm sure we will be fine but I like to be prepared.

Thanks on both accounts. I'm resting today and watching Disney movies!

Feed your family lots of vitamin C, lots of water, and all the other things your family does to ward off illness.
Seems like it's a short-lived one at least. Best wishes for perfect health on your trip!
I went to the doctor and it turns out it is the flu. Luckily, I should be better before the trip. I'm pumping the family full of stuff and keeping them away from me.

I felt so bad when I messaged you yesterday and you were still in bed. I hope you're feeling better today.
Don't feel bad, I was laying in bed playing Candy Crush because I couldn't sleep.
Aw, shoot! The real flu? Glad you came down now. Pixies to your family, may you be the only one!!!
Yes, the doctor even said that I was the textbook case. At least when I do something I do it right. The timing could be worse and we are hoping no one else gets sick.
Oh, no! I hope you can shake the flu quickly. Give yourself plenty of rest after you feel ok. I know you've got a busy life, but you want to be really well for the trip! It's usually kids who get sick or have accidents prior to a trip. This time it's both parents!
