As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oops, I didn't realize you had updated. Enjoyed the pics of all of your summer activities. My faves were Evan playing baseball - he looks like he knows what he's doing!
I did wonder if it was the same Diggerland as we have over here. There's one not too far from us - not that we've visited it, but I'm very familiar with them.

Very valuable to know that Diggerland is much more enjoyable on a cloudy day! It does look like the heat would be unbearable with no place to escape into shade or air conditioning. Looks like a fun place, though.

Yea I don't think it is a place for adults only. Although I did see one couple with no kids. I looked and the one in Durham is right near where my sister live so if we visit again I know what we will be doing.

I am a little bummed about Legoland but really happy we got the refund - and really surprised too. Evan LOVED Diggerland so that was enough for me.

Evan loved Diggerland - Not sure how many girls would like it - they are just wired different than boys. He loves anything rough and tumble like Diggerland

I was thinking about how hot it must have been this past weekend with the mini hot spell we got. Into the 90's and high humidity

As long as evan was having fun - which we was, then I was having fun.
So before I continue with the TR I just wanted to say that the Lord sure does work in mysterious ways. Let me just say Im actually happy we didnt take our Disney trip this year. let me splain (No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is set to marry Humperdink in little less than half an hour for all you Princess Bride fans) OK seriously now let me explain.
Our WDW trip was to be me, Evan, Mom and nephew Eric. Evan and Eric have been going to the same camp together all summer and have just had too much togetherness. They are at each others throats and bickering ALL THE TIME.
They are at the suitcase in the middle of the backseat stage OK that is a family story but a good one for anyone with kids.
My brother and his wife were taking a road trip when their kids were about 7,8,9,10. Just the age that Evan and Eric are entering. My niece and nephew would bicker and complain about the other all the time. You know how it goes. He is breathing MY air. She is chewing too loud all that sort of nonsense. Well on this one particular road trip when loading the car to come home my brother couldnt fit the suitcase in the trunk and just by dumb luck put it in the middle of the backseat between the kids. He said it was the best road trip they ever took. There was peace throughout the land. For the next several years any trip they took, the suit case went right into the back seat. So I feel Evan and Eric have reached that stage (the suitcase in the middle of the backseat stage). My sister made up a song this weekend a-la Taylor Swift we are never, ever, ever, riding in the car together. It has really been trying on my nerves. So the fact that I didnt have to deal with all of that for 2 weeks while in Disney is truly a blessing. On a positive note my brothers kids are really best friends now so there is hope for E&E.
The second reason Im happy we canceled is my mom. We had thought about still going and her using a scooter but she really has no stamina right now and that situation would have just been a disaster.
Third reason is and this will tie in in with this trip report is my dog Trixie hurt her back. I came home to her limping and screaming (Im not kidding-SCREAMING) in pain. I had to take her to the ER before I even unloaded the car. I have been dealing with that for the past few weeks trying to get her on the mend. 2 ER visits and 2 vet appointments later she is improving.
Fourth with Trixie being injured I have to carry her up and down the stairs. This morning I was holding her and my foot slipped on the tile floor. I crashed into the ground, wrenched my back and neck, skinned my knee (seriously I havent had a skinned knee since I was like 10) now my knee and wrist hurts AND I dropped the dog. Fortunately she looked fine. I took some Aleve but I can tell Im just achy all over today. Im glad Im not dealing with that soreness in WDW.
Lastly the reason Im glad we didnt go is that by now our trip would be over and as of today I still have a trip to look forward too. Albeit a year away. All this week I keep thinking, this time next year Ill be in Disney maybe we will be on Space Mountain right now
So with all that running through my mind I havent touched my TR in a few days. I hope to get back to working on the Diggerland updates but Evan has practice tonight and Thursday and first day of school in also on Thursday so I need to get him all set. Hopefully soon I will get back into it and finish up the day in Diggerland and upload my photos.
Hey if I drag this out long enough Ill finish in time for the PTR for next summer. Well actually we are planning a trip to DC in November so I do want to be all done this TR before then as I hope to do a PTR/TR for DC too.
OK let me stop yapping and get cracking on the next Diggerland update.
What a lot to deal with, Holly! Here are some healing pixies for you, Trixie and your mom. You've got the right attitude-- the fun of a WDW trip is all still in your future!
I posted these 2 topics over on the Planning forum but thought you all might have some advice too
I'm looking for some advice on the new Festival of Fantasy parade and I have a few questions too.
1) Do you all think FP+ is worth it? I'm thinking of going to the show on arrival day and this way if we are running a little late we still have seats.
2) When the parade starts in Frointerland how long until it reaches the hub (FP+ view area) and the central plaza on Main Street (my back up viewing location)?
3) Where do you like to view the parade?
4) Will there be a crazy mass exodus after the show ends? I'm wondering if we will need to stay put for 10 minutes or so or will we be able to move around quickly.
5) If not using FP+ how far in advance to stake out a spot?
6) Will we still find good viewing at the last minute? I know it is still new and popular but we will be going next year so things may die down a little.
7) Any thoughts or tips/tricks you have?...
I just joined National Car Rental's Emerald Club. I'm curious about the Emerald Aisle Service. Has anyone used it? I'm wondering how many cars are there in the row that are "above" the midsize/intermediate that you need to book. Im looking to get a convertible but really wondering if there are typically any in the row or is National sneaky and really don't have anything other than the ICars in the row? Anyone actually able to get the "free upgrade" using Emerald Aisle Service?
