Six months and counting…But will I be able to walk by then? My Disney hopes and Fantasy wishes PTR - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi Linda, we love POFQ and PORS they are the resorts we stay at the most. We had a water veiw or river veiw once it was nice but a little on the noisy side with all the boats going by, with that being said I love taking pictures of just about everything so seeing boats going by just makes me keep going to the window at night.......It's just me.
I would if you can do it put in for the river view.
Glad your leg is doing better and by the time your cruise is here you'll be in great shape.......and I promise too leave the Fantasy in one piece when I disembark
Hi all, first....No I did not drop off the face of the earth. I have had a lot on my plate including my dad getting lost at least twice and then going to the store in his pj's and slippers. Trying to catch him but the little dickens sneaks out on me. I actually tried to post last week but with everything going on who knew that my laptop would crash...hard. I am using Heathers at the moment but I had to send it out for repairs and who knows when it will be back. Oh yeah, the furnace blew yesterday...smoke and soot everywhere. Personally I don't usually turn it on so early but when you have two nearly 80 year olds in the house you do what you have to do. It was repaired this morning but there was a lot of cranky complaints. Remember my National Lampoon Vacation? We'll there you go. What else could possibly go wrong? I shudder to think. So I alpologize for not answering all of you but I have to give the laptop back to Heather when she gets home and I wanted to at least update you on what's been going on....the good stuff that is.
So this is what I tried to post on the 26th. I had to alter it a bit.
I can’t believe that October is here and we are now one day shy of a week for this vacation and I am soooo looking forward to it. So this is what’s been happening since I last posted. I ordered our stateroom goodies and also Dan’s tux. He won and will be wearing the white dinner jacket. I think he will look great but I’m reminded about how is hates to stand out…Lol. Oh well, I’m sure there will be other’s.
I received our cruise documents a few weeks ago along with our Disney packet and if you followed my last TR you might remember how I had a melt down over not getting my DME packet which finally made it only days out from our trip. Well those little yellow buggers were included in the packet….Yeah!!! No worries… Cruise docs and WDW docs
I have to hit the suitcases again and take more things out. I’ve got a mix and match thing going on that I think will work. That and a few long dresses which is mainly to disguise the fact that I still have an injury I am obviously trying to conceal. My leg is still around 85% or so. I know that I can walk for about 2 to 2 ½ hours before I need to rest for a few minutes than I’m good to go. I guess I just need to pace myself.
I have ordered all my celebration cakes. I emailed 3 chefs on the same day and got a reply shortly after. Everyone is onboard with what I want and I can’t wait to see the creations they have in store for us.
My FE gifts are finished. It looks like I’ll be taking them with me in a Disney World carry on. They all fit perfect and I’ll be able to deliver them using the same carry on which has wheels so I can just drag it along. Most of my gifts are of the hand made nature and I think they came out pretty good. What do you think? Per cabin: I made recipes cards which I laminated and placed inside a little personalized folder and then into a cello bag.
I also made mini clip boards. These were so easy to do. I made a couple extra for myself.
Custom Magnets...
Boy and Girls under 6 will receive a coloring book with crayons, Disney stickers and tattoos and candy.
Kids under 12 will get a Captain Jack pirate scroll along with a Jack Sparrow Guide to Being a Pirate booklet, stickers, tattoos and candy. I only had a few teens so boys will have a key tag and girls a princess pendant. They also receive candy, chap sticks, mini flash light, glow sticks etc. (Can't post these at the moment.) I also have a huge tube of glow stick bracelets which I will simply place in everyone’s FE pockets. Great for the Pirate Night party.
Toddlers will receive Disney Bath Time books…sorry forgot to take a pic…but you all know what they look like.
So at least that is all set. Good thing is I will leave with an extra bag and be able to use it to store souvenirs on the trip home. Some of you might remember the question of missing Marie last year. Don’t want that happening again.
Dan is the only one who tried on his pirate costume so far. Heather and I haven’t got to it yet though I am pleased to report that both of us have lost 10 pounds each. Something I didn’t think would happen. (I have since tried it on...pretty pleased with it but no pics yet.)
I’m still living with my Dad and his Alzheimer’s. Things are just getting worse and my mother is having problems trying to deal with his erratic behavior but I keep telling her we can do it, just one day at a time. She’s so worried about him and I don’t blame her. He still doesn’t believe he has a problem but will take his meds with many reminders just to make her happy. So that’s one thing going the right direction I guess.
So there you have it…the only thing left to do is my online check in for the POFQ this coming Saturday and make my t-shirts. I can’t believe it’s almost here already. Seems like only awhile ago it was months instead of days.
So when my laptop died I forgot all about my online check-in. I did it yesterday with the help of my new tablet which Dan gave to me. It was gift for his 15 year anniversary at work. Looks like I'll have to depend on that for a bit. I just finished the t-shirts tonight and though I can take pictures, I can't upload them at the moment. You see Heathers laptop is following mine. They are both Dell's. She nicknamed hers Adele because it always...rolling in the deep....and now so is mine.
I'll try to post before I leave. We're really just about set. Hopefully no more NLV.

Like the title says, I hope any of you that were touched by hurricane Sandy are all safe and sound. I must say that we really lucked out on our trip. (did you see the videos of the Fantasy? Yikes!)Sunny skies and beautiful weather for us, all but one day and that was a partial. I'll be starting my TR soon but for now I have to figure out how to re-attach the lattice that Sandy tore off my deck.Take care and have a magical day.
Linda
