The We NEED This Vacation / It's Now Or Never 9/18-9/27 PTR - COMPLETE!! 9/18 - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am so sorry that you are having all these issues with your insurance. I still cannot understand how a company can cancel and terminate someone without notification, I would really report to someone what this woman did because it sounds like she just created her own rules, even if they were impossible to follow.
I agree that you really need this vacation I am really enjoying reading all of your plans. Hope that everything works out with the leave of absence and that they can work off the money that is due the doctors.
All caught up on your PTR. Man, Disney can't come soon enough for you! Sorry for all the lousy things you've been going through and here's hoping your trip is extra magical to make up for some of it!

Geesh! I don't even know what to say. They say what goes around comes around, but that isn't helping the matter at hand. All I can say is I hope things work out for you in the end of all this.
Thank you!

That lady (lets call her Sue...cause that's her name...lol but that cracked me up)...is awful & I agree with Melissa what comes around goes around!!! I am glad your pup is getting better. I noticed my lil Pom/ Chihuahua dog is chewing her backside lately. I think it might be from dry skin. I hope it passes soon. Here’s a {{{HUG}}} & some pixies for you!!
Thank you very much!

Sorry to hear about your lab - our West Highland White Terrier that we had when I was growing up used to get hot spots all the time and we had to bathe him in this horrible sulfur-smelling medicated shampoo. Hopefully your pup will be feeling better soon. Any luck on finding a pet sitter? We have used the same pet sitter for years now and trust her completely. This vacation, my neighbor and friend Renee is going to watch our pets for us to save us money. She'll do fine - I'm not worried about it. But, as I'm familiar with Malamutes (like Layla), I know what escape artists they are and that is what makes me worried when someone else watches our Husky. If she gets loose at all, she's GONE and there's no catching her. Sorry to hear about all the insurance troubles - I hope it all gets worked out. You SO need this vacation!
Thanks! I'm looking forward to the Baggallini, it looks like it'll work out great. I called around and found a group that I like. I spoke to the owner of the company today, told her my concerns and she said she'll look at the calendar and see which of her sitters would be the best fit, and they'll come by for an interview this week. I told the owner, I don't want to sound like a psycho, but the dogs are my life and I have a really hard time trusting people with taking care of them. She seems good, and at least I can interview the sitter before I make up my mind. I know what you mean about being escape artists - I tell everyone that they are NOT allowed outside of the fenced yard, not even on leashes (I think most people underestimate how fast and strong they can lunge at something), so hopefully that cuts down on the risk of it.

Thank you! He is feeling a little better it seems.

Thank you! This woman has caused soooo many problems, it would take up an entire message board to explain. I don't want to sound paranoid, but I'm not convinced that it was just a mistake. She's just had a nasty attitude for the entire time I've dealt with her.

I don't have one, but ironically, the workman's comp division is the same division that that psycho works in! It's a workman's comp/disability department. I wasn't injured at work so I don't know if it would matter, but it would've been the same woman unfortunately. A co-worker of mine got injured at work (an Epipen wasn't capped properly and got her), and her case manager never submitted the paperwork and she got a summons from the Hospital, suing her for the bill! It's just one big incompetent joke.
So much has been going on, I haven't even been able to get to the last 3 days of our plans!!
I found out something extremely cool last night. My Great-Aunt Mabel was my Grandma's best friend. They actually were best friends growing up, and they wound up marrying brothers and became related. Aunt Mabel died about a month before my Grandma. My cousin Dena was her Grand-daughter and was as close to her as I was to my Grandma.
Well, I found out yesterday that Dena is going to Disney this week! She's leaving tomorrow, staying at Port Orleans Riverside. She's leaving the day before I'm coming back. BUT, the cool part? She got the money to pay for the trip from Aunt Mabel. Aunt Mabel had told her that when everything is settled down after her death (she knew that she was dying), she wanted Dena to take her family to Disney World since Aunt Mabel couldn't go along with them, but now she is in a way. Just like I got the money to pay for OUR trip from my Grandma. I thought that was really nice.
Casey seems to be feeling better. Unfortunately, I went out for less than an hour last night and left his collar off. The vet said that the shot should be in effect in less than 24 hours, and it was over 48 hours since he'd received it. Plus, he hadn't been going near it at all, but when I came home, it was all open again. It looks better than it did actually. His fur was all matted around the wound and they didn't want to shave it because it was starting to scab around the fur. It looks a LOT cleaner than it did, and now since there isn't a scab on it at all, I'm more confident that the sprays are getting in there. He's still on his antibiotic tablets though.
Layla had a good day today. She's a Therapy Dog and once a month we go to a local library for a Tail Waggin' Tutors program, where children can practice reading out loud to her. It's mostly for kids who are self conscious reading in front of other people, because Layla wouldn't laugh at them or correct them. The kids are adorable, and they love it. The parents tell me how the kids want to practice at home for Layla, and they don't want to read to their own dogs because they "don't listen." Today, one of the other patrons at the library turned out to be a Basic Skills teacher in a local elementary school, and she'd like to ask her principal about bringing Layla in to the school sometimes too.
I have a doctor's appointment for Monday that I'll pay out of pocket for. I have the form that he needs to fill out to try and get my retroactive leave of absence, and want to get the ball rolling ASAP since I'm leaving in LESS THAN A WEEK !!
I'll be calling my physical therapist to try and get appointments for the week before we go. My shoulder HURTS, I guess it's gotten used to the ultrasounds and heat therapy. I'm going to see if they can either work out an arrangement, or just explain how if/when they submit to the insurance company it'll get denied, but will be approved shortly (hopefully).
I'm going to be interviewing some Pet Sitters this week for the dogs. It looks promising though!
I tried going to the store yesterday to find some clothes for the trip. Since I've been out of work for 6 months, I didn't realize how much weight I've gained I can't fit into any of the clothes that I'd worn last year. Unfortunately, all of the summer clothes are either totally gone, or are only in Extra Small or Super Extra Extra Large sizes. I couldn't find a single pair of shorts, or even an appropriate shirt! All the short sleeved shirts were either too fancy or too hot or just not right. I guess I'll be washing clothes often and looking the same in a lot of pictures this year!
I'm so excited - I just noticed that they added a second Fantasmic! show to the day that we were planning to see it. I'm hoping that it's true that the second show tends to be less crowded.
Tomorrow, Layla and I are going to the Dog Walk for Cancer. It looks like a lot of fun. We'll be doing agility demonstrations and participating in the walk. I hope it doesn't get rained out.
I can't believe how quickly time is passing. I have sooo much to do, and hardly any time to do it! I almost wish we were leaving in another TWO weeks to give myself a little more time.
I just discovered this thread & I read all of it. I'm sorry for all of the bad things that have happened to you this year. Despite it all, I think you have a good attitude. You have coped well. I think you are thoughtful to take your brother with you. I think Disney will be good therapy for you. I wish you all the best in your vacation & your life as you get back to the real world afterwards.
Like I said before what comes around goes around....And Honey you do A Lot of good!!!! I just know great things are in store for you!!!
I had a hard time finding shorts, really any summer stuff...well I mean on sale I am not paying full retail!! I may end up in a lot of the same clothes too. Oh well we are going to be in Disney no worries...just pixies!!
That is amazing about your Great Aunt Mabel and Dena. That is just a wonderful way to celebrate someone's life. I am so glad you are both getting these trips because of your grandmothers.
Here's a few more pixies... . You can never have too many right?!? I had the same problem with clothes after my second brain surgery, thankfully, I wasn't going to Disney any time soon, but it's surprising what happens to your body after your out of commission for a while. This time, however, I needed to get a new pair of denim shorts because I finally got rid of all that baby weight and my old pair was a little too big...what a mistake that was. Shorts are out and fall clothing is in. Finally, I found a pair, and the best news was that they were on clearance. So hopefully you'll find something, and the best part is that it should be a lot cheaper!
