Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 81 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I can't believe you had never seen the Enchanted Tiki birds! Lunch with Shelley and Stephanie looked both fun and yummy. I can't believe how much Stephanie has grown up. I'm beginning to think Dylan's shyness is his method of attracting the older girls. Their haircuts are awesome! Good looking boys!
Cam ~ I think you got it right with Dylan and his shyness!
Kelly ~ y'all looked like y'all had a great time at lunch! I know we did! And your boys are both super sweet. I am glad Lukas wasn't as shy the second time we saw y'all.
Saw Cam's comment about Dylan and wanted to comment before I forgot. It made me laugh out loud when I read it. Going back now to finish getting caught back up.

Thanks for the camera recommendation. That's one I've been considering. It comes highly rated! Glad to see some pictures taken by it and hear that you love it!
Loved all the pics from the KS. There were tons of animals out!! Steph and I missed riding KS this trip but atleast by the time I make it back to WDW the Zebra exhibit should be finished.
How you ladies were able to joint Skype! Sounds like it was an awesome virtual PP meet. Especially the drinks.
Lukas' face at EoS is hilariously too cute!
scarf! I love that gift shop!
Cotton candy and us do not get along. Steph was about 4 years old and we were at an Astros game. They had some Bayou Bash themed event with food, drinks and music going on. Anyways, it was 3/4 through the game and these little boys in front of us were munching down on a bucket of cotton candy. Steph is watching them intently and decides she wants some. I was like ok, no problem, we will wait for the guy to come around get one. An inning went by and no guy. Steph is begging me at this point so the father of those boys decides go look for some for her. He comes back a little later with no cotton candy and said the stands were closed. Ok. Now what. Since this event was going on, I decide there had to be somebody outside with cotton candy. Game was over so we headed out to check. Yes. Found some! YAY! I open up the bag and give some to Steph. Now, she has never had cotton candy before this and doesn't know what it does when it gets wet. She takes one bite and and says "yuck, I don't like it." After all that hunting for cotton candy...smh.
No prob Kelly keep cool and get to the report when you can. It has been hot here too, not quite as hot as you. But still it is actually hard to breathe when outside. feels like a sauna. We were supposed to have rain yesterday but go none. Now calling for Thunderstorms tonight, tomorrow and into Saturday - I hope we get something.
Do you have room for all the boys too? Maybe I can just come for a visit sometime and leave them at home.
The grilled cheese looked pretty good too. I'm tempted to get it myself.
The magnets are fun! I had a few left over that I kept for myself.
I have room for everyone, but if you need some girl-only time, we have room for that too.
It's been super hot here too! Yesterday we broke a record with 107 degrees. My poor flowers are just not happy, and I'm not happy about constantly having to water them...where the heck is the rain?????

In TX this year Melissa! We had an extreme drought last year with a record number of days above 100. But this past week I thought we were going to have to build an ark. People just north of us were flooded out of their homes for two days. Would be glad to push some y'alls way if I could.
We're back to the major heatwave too, although it broke today Hope you did okay golfing in that weather! We'll be here waiting when you get time to update....

Sounds like a great evening, love the pictures of the boys. The one of Lukas at dinner...too cute.
I love the gift shop at AKL, I think I would find myself wandering there every evening last trip (and I am sure I will end up there multiple times this trip as well).
Sometimes it's nice to take a short cut through there just to get a little taste of the shop.

You two did see Dylan act this out first hand.

If you get it, I hope you love it too! It's been really great so far. And easy to take 'maunual' photos too.

Me too! I think I've forgotten what rain is. Some storm did go through work last night as there were trees and branches on the ground.

Sounds like we're having the summer you did last year. Please try to send some rain to me then pass it on to Melissa.

Thanks!
So I did survive golf last night! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe I prepared for the worst. I got home at 8:30pm and my car said it was 100 degrees still. I did get my first ever par on a hole and with my handicap shot under par, so that's good.
Today I did start the next update, but haven't finished it yet, but you'll get it soon!
Looks like you guys are in for more 100 degree weather. Stay cool this weekend!!
That we are! Today it's unusually cool. It hasn't even hit 90 yet! It's been pretty cloudy all day, but it looks like the sun is trying to come out right now. I just checked teh forecast and we're up there again. There's another heat warning from Sunday through Thursday night!

Mike was up early maybe about 6:30am or before. Once he was out of the shower I woke up and then got Dylan up and ready. Lukas was still out. Mike & Dylan left for DHS and were there by 7:30am. Once they left I decided I might as well get ready since I was up and Lukas was still asleep. Once I was done I got Lukas ready to go and we headed to DHS to catch up with Mike & Dylan.
While Lukas & I were getting ready, Mike & Dylan walked right up to the celebrity fastpass line and both got FPs to meet Jake Lloyd (who played young Anakin in Episode I) later. They were also able to ride Star Tours and TSMM as well as grab FPs for TSMM for later that morning. They had no trouble with lines whatsoever this morning.
Lukas & I arrived at DHS at 8:20am and I tried the celebrity FP line to see if I could meet Ashley Eckstein but hers were gone for the day and no one else was left that we cared for so we moved on into the park.
Once finding Mike & Dylan we decided to go to Darth’s Mall where all the SWW exclusive merchandise was set up before it got too crowded. I was really worried about the crowds as this was weekend 2, but things were working in our favor as far as the crowds. The skies were very gray and cloudy this morning, but so far no rain had fallen on us. We walked right in to Darth’s Mall at 8:30am and there was hardly anyone else inside. This place was massive! Even though the location was between ToT & RnRC (closer to RnRC) and away from all the other SWW activities it worked out better than in years past in my opinion. It was very spread out, had a lot more merchandise with labels, and many CMs available to help.
A different angle than you can normally get of ToT!
We made several laps around the place. Mike went to the special/limited edition table where they had the AP & DVC exclusive items while I took the boys for a bit. Dylan decided he wanted his face painted after seeing the booth. Before this he had wanted Darth Maul, but then decided on the Red Ranger (Power Rangers) so I paid and then we came back to get painted. He was the first of the day at the booth and later the CM thanked us as it started a trend and she got quite busy after Dylan.
Everyone thought he was either Darth Maul or some other SW character all day anyway. He kept saying "Why does everyone keep saying that?" when someone would say "ooohhh, Darth Maul".
After Dylan’s face was painted we found where they were doing the special name tags for SWW where you could get your name in one of the SW languages. Mike chose Bespin and Dylan Tattooine (because that’s where Anakin is from and he’s one of his favorites). They would take about 20 minutes to make so we went back around deciding on what else we should get. Mike was looking for a matted picture of young Anakin so Jake Lloyd could sign it like the one he has of Boba Fett that Jeremy Bulloch signed and he finally found one back in the art section. He was also on the lookout for the lanyard that looked like Chewbacca’s belt. I found a CM to try and hunt one down, but apparently those were VERY popular and were already sold out (probably the first weekend they were wiped clean). Dylan & I spent quite a bit of time in the stuffed animal section. I really thought he was going to get an Ewok, but no SW plushes came home with us. While we were browsing by the action figures and toys a lady came up and asked Dylan if he wanted to be in the parade. Well of course he would!!! She asked if I would accompany him, but I told her my husband would be better as he’s the bigger Star Wars fan. So she outfitted them both with wristbands and then told us where we would need to meet to be in the parade. A few bonuses – Lukas could go with them too since he would be carried by Mike and I would get priority seating for the parade! Score! We were all very excited about this and I was so happy that I’d brought the video camera with us today.
They had some costumes and other memorabilia on display:
By now the pins were ready to be picked up, so we got those and checked out. We got quite the haul here. Mike got 2 other pins, Donald as Darth Maul figure, the picture of Anakin, and I picked out our ornament for the trip – Mickey ears with the likeness of R2-D2.
Top right is the droid Mike made our first day.
The R2-D2 in the middle back is what Mike & Dylan had a snack of popcorn in later on.
The FPs Mike had gotten for TSMM were now ripe and since they rode it earlier he let me go with Dylan. We had a fun ride (and I told Dylan he won which made him VERY happy). Now it was time for breakfast!
That is great they were chosen for the parade! I can't wait to hear about it. Love the ornaments! I can't wait to get one next year! Or one like it. Those are darling!
