Me, Muffin, Disney World, and Universal - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

All the anticipation on this I think is quite interesting in how it's evolving. A holiday season stay at Beach Club will be nice and see if you stick with it depending on the discounts that may or may not come out for other resorts. Too bad you had to cancel the cruise but seems you may be saving a bit this way. Interested in seeing how it is finalized! Either way, you'll have an amazing time! I stayed at the BC in 2007 for three nights and enjoyed the resort immensely.

All I can say is Muffin had a great plan! It's pretty hard to say no to...Christmas decorations, Food and Wine Festival, MVMCP, and an extra night to boot!
We've definitely got you figured out, but it does sound like a sweet deal in order to change plans.
It always does, Cam!! Honestly, it usually works out just fine in the end.

Thanks, Dave!! We usually end up having a wonderful vacation no matter what!!

Now you can see how he plots these things out!

We would definitely like to focus on the F&WF, but we also know that we will be there on the last weekend of it, so our preliminary thought is to go on the day we arrive, which will be a Thursday and the last day of the Festival, which will be a Monday and our MVMCP day.
We are thinking we will not book anything big this time around. Certainly nothing as extravagant as the Party for the Senses. : We thoroughly enjoyed this event last year but it would be way over the top to do it again so soon. We would love to do another tasting seminar, so we’ll see what shakes down.
As far as ADRs go, I have some ideas but will first need to figure out our Park days. Like Cam, I use Touring Plans as a guide for crowd levels to start.
Muffin has requested Narcoossees for dinner one night and has backed off of dinner at the Edison to just going for a drink to check it out. We are thinking maybe Wine Bar George for dinner that night.
We are planning on MVMCP on November 12th and BOG for an early dinner again that night. We really really enjoyed this combo last year! This is the only plan set in stone so far.
We arrived at the 12th for the Party by process of elimination:
A. We didn’t want to go the first day because you never know what will happen on travel day.
B. We did not want to go on a Friday night as everything we’ve read says those tend to be the most crowded.
C. Last year we went on a Monday night and had a ball!!
On Tuesday, November 13th, we will be moving over to the Rosen. Muffin has to set up his show today so he told me to make plans without him and says he has the evening to spend with me so this sounds like a good night for Disney Springs. I am so hoping that they have the Christmas Tree Trail up and running again!!
I am not yet sure what I will do this day. I am kicking around a few ideas including:
A. A tour
B. Some shopping at Disney Springs and a nice lunch if we decide to do something else tonight
C. Hang at the Beach Club for the morning
D. Go back to whichever Park I choose
Andy and Katie will be coming down on Wednesday, November 14th, now and staying until the 18th. We haven’t booked flights for them yet so I’m not sure what time of day they will be arriving. If feel I need a break from WDW, I may to go Universal Studios on the 14th. I already know from last year, that it is easy enough to get to both places from where we are! I am so happy that I have APs for both WDW and USF!!
I am thinking that Andy and I can do Epcot on Thursday the 15th since that is his first choice of Disney Park with maybe a lunch at the Biergarten or the Rose and Crown since Andy loves Germany, beer and Pubs! Muffin can’t do German food so we haven’t eaten at the Biergarten since the kids were little. Also, the Rose and Crown has never appealed to him so I won’t feel like he is missing out with either of these choices.
The 16th, 17th and whatever we have of the 18th will be Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. I am especially looking forward to the 17th as we will get to enjoy a bit of Christmas at the parks!!
I love this stage of planning because there are so many possibilities!! Last year, we did everything to the nines! This year, we are touring casually and leaving a lot more open to the wind!!
Sometimes not a lot of plans turns out to be the best option. Not so tied into a specific park at a specific time and just go with the flow. We usually go during the food and wine festival and plan most of our eats there. We'd rather eat a lot of small eats versus a huge meal all at once, just our preference.
Nice plans for your trip. Probably not good to do PFTS on consecutive years. Might be good to experience something else. I remember you cancelled the Italian Wine lunch as something else came up. Perhaps, it may be good to do this one this year. I did this on my October trip and you'll find out about it in my TR. The various seminars are great at the Festival and did another one last trip.

I was just saying to jeff tonight (after a lengthy conversation about options for the upcoming trip) that it's so much fun planning and anticipating what we're going to do when we get there!
Sounds like you've got some great things planned!
