Checking off that Bucket List ~ Disney Style! - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! We did CMC for the first time last trip, it was so good. Love those crab legs!
I love all of your shots from the Osbourne Lights, especially the one the PP photog took of you with your arms around each other The crowds look pretty light back there, nice that you didn't have to fight your way through a sea of people to see them!
great pictures of all the Christmas lights. Looks like you guys had a great time!!
Thanks!!! We did!!

We both couldn't get over how beautiful they were.
Thanks! We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was!! We certainly did get a lot done at DHS - which was fantastic! Think it helped that we went so late - and it was open late - the lines were fine!

Well - It is crazy snowy here in CT!!! It is coming down fast!!! Scott is out plowing already - and it's gonna be a long weekend - I probably won't see much of him -other than to feed him and make sure he is taking his meds! Probably gonna have to tie him down to make him sleep!!! Em & I are cozy in the house - praying that the power does not go out as the wind is howling out there!!! So I am hoping to get more of this TR posted this weekend, get some scrapbooking done, and some more Disney planning!!! However, I can't help but feel a little dejavu............I was working on a PTR during Hurricane Sandy............
For all of you in this path of this crazy Blizzard (our state is calling it Charlotte, while the rest of the world is calling it "Nemo") - stay home, stay safe, and stay warm!!!
Now to continue on to one of the BEST parts of this trip!!!!
Sunday, December 30, 2012:
It’s MY Birthday!!!
We were up at 8am, dressed and out of the room and on a bus to Animal Kingdom by 9am!!!
We arrived at Animal Kingdom at 9:25 am (I tried to make note of arrival times during this trip as we were relying on Disney transportation, for reference!).
We stopped for a photopass photos of course.
Then we headed towards Camp Minnie Mickey to meet some friends before our late breakfast.
I knew that Donald does not sign at Tusker House, so we got in his line first – and had our photo ops/autographs with him.
Next was Chip ‘n Dale – they were a riot as usual!!
I had told Emily that I wanted a picture by myself – meaning with the boys – well apparently they thought I wanted a picture of me-all-by-myself!!!
Then it was time to head over to Tusker House for our breakfast ADR (we would have to come back to Camp Minnie Mickey – as I was determined to see them all in their winter outfits!).
We checked in at Tusker House – requested to be in Neil’s section (if you have read my TR’s before – I have mentioned Neil – he is the BEST!!! He is originally from Long Island and we have had him as our server for years visiting Tusker House!) – So after our photo op with Donald (which I JUST realized are NOT on my photopass?!?!.........will have to scan in the hard copy eventually ), we were quickly being led to our table – and Scott did a paparazzi on Neil!
We got all caught up with Neil – he brought us jambo juice and hot chocolates all around – remembered that Scott likes his eggs well done – brought a plate of those – and we filled our plates from the buffet.....
and enjoyed our time with Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy!
I got lots of birthday wishes from them all – and even got a Birthday card and a cupcake!!
After our fantastic birthday breakfast celebration we headed for Kilimanjaro Safari – this time the weather was Perfect!!! It was mid 70’s, sunny!!! The animals were all out and about!!! I think most of them came out just to say to me!!!
Some of the hippos were out of the water taking naps – so cute!!
I can't believe how white those crocs teeth are!!!! Maybe he had a cleaning this am???
Is this NOT the cutest?!?!?! I just LOVE the Giraffes!!!
Even the mandrils were having a great time!!
We got stuck on the road because apparently way up ahead there was an ostrich that was standing in the middle of the road – not wanting to move – you could hear all the scuttle on the radio. We must have sat in the same spot (right before the elephants) for about 20 minutes –
This was my view while waiting...........
then we were able to move a bit – then stopped again…….
Even the Cheetahs were up to say
This Rhino followed us for a little bit......
Apparently - the lions were party poopers today
Yep - this was the culprit of the holdups today!!! Secretly, I didn't mind at all.............it allowed me extra time on my FAVORITE attration at AK!!!
Even the Zebras were quite active!
It really was quite the lengthy safari ride!! (when we got off, the lines were outrageous as they had stopped loading people while the rest of us were stuck!).
Otherwise, we had fantastic viewing of most of the animals today!
We stopped to see my Gorilla friends quickly - they seemed much happier today!!
After our safari – I wanted to stop in the gift shop in Africa to make a purchase for myself for my birthday – I wanted the animal masks to be able to hang at home – so with Emily’s help – I picked out 5 of them!! And a drum with an elephant carved for good measure!! Emily and I also picked up a pair of gloves for each – as it was starting to get chilly –and we knew once the sun went down it would get even colder. After making my purchase and arranging for them to be shipped to my home (I will have to remember to take a photo of them to share later!) – we wandered around some of the shops again – and found some fleece jackets that we liked for all 3 of us – we splurged and bought them! (You will see them on us in many pics!)
Of course, with it being my birthday – I wanted to meet as many characters as possible – so we headed over to Character Landing to meet up with Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger!
Then we headed back to Camp Minnie Mickey to meet Minnie and Mickey – these were the longest we have ever waited to meet characters – about 30 minutes each!! I don’t know how Scott held out, but he did – probably driving the people around us crazy with his constant pacing. But we finally got to see them – and they were just adorable in their holiday outfits!!!
I was able to get some photos of the Christmas trees in this area – I really like how these were specific to the characters!
I had one more thing on my agenda before leaving AK today – an African Margarita from the Dawa bar!!!
So with that in hand, we started heading for the bus – it was time to head to Magic Kingdom!
But of course, not without stopping for a few family photos along the way!!!
At 3:15 we boarded a bus from Animal Kingdom to Bay Lake Tower – figuring we would catch the monorail from there to Magic Kingdom (we could have walked, but we all needed a bio break – so we went inside – plus Scott wanted to check out the floor numbers for future reference at BLT) –
Up Next: Can it get any more magical???

sounds like you are having a great day. all your ,never can take or post to many IMHO. You have given me a great idea for my birthday ( on Sunday) for a great day at the parks. Can't wait to more.

Snowing like crazy here, too! We've had two practically snowless winters, so Scott must be anxious to get all the plowing he can. Just keep thinking positive thoughts for no loss of power!
I can't imagine a happier birthday. You look wonderful in your birthday ears, and met so many characters. I just love them in their winter wear, and I love that they all have their own trees at Camp Minnie Mickey. Too funny that the chipmunks left you alone for your photo! Fantastic safari photos, especially the lying-down giraffe. It's a long way up and down for them! I love the new fleece, and don't forget to take a photo of your birthday presents!
First, thinking of all of you in the NE with this storm! D wish we were getting a little of it, but just crazy wind here.
What a great birthday so far!!! Love all the purchases!
Great safari - I think the ostrich was giving you a birthday gift!
Cape May was at the top of our list, so of course we will be hitting it on our trip. I will make note to leave extra early though, because I had planned on taking the boat from DHS. I love all your pics of the Christmas details in the Beach Club and the lights in DHS. You all look like you are having a wonderful family day.
What a wonderful start to your birthday! I'll have to keep that in mind about Neil. Is there a secret to getting him? Love all the characters in their holiday garb. Your photopass pics are great!

And your day started off terrific! I love extra time on the safari. Can't wait to see pics of the masks. The character Christmas trees at Camp Minnie-Mickey are some of my favorites.
I was just looking at your photos again and I think they've cleared away a lot of the low branches on the bushes in the mandrill area, making them more visible. Nice!
Talk about a perfect Birthday Celebration! You sure got some good shots of the animals at AK - at Tusker House, on the Safari, and at the Meet & Greet. I hope you had as much fun writing this latest update as we did reading it.

Thank you!! And to you!!! sometimes I feel like I post too many photos, but that's who I am - the picture taker!!! And I enjoy looking at everyone else's!!

Thanks! I almost think you might be better taking the boat or bus from POR to DTD and then the bus to Y&BC (although, actually as I type this, I remember that Y&BC share a bus with BWV and Swan & Dolphin) - so you might just want to take a cab!! LOL!! No secret to getting Neil other than requesting him if he is working - I believe he currently works Thurs-Sun breakfast and lunch. Make sure to say hi if you get him!!!
