Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It really has hasn't it. Although, all of the negative reports on dining has really taken me back!
Call me crazy, I'm entertaining the idea of extending my vakay by two more nites!! I mean, really, if I'm already there for four nites and my current flight home is early in the morning effectively killing my day. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, why not extend it to a week? After working three jobs for over a year & a half by that point why the heck not??
Please help me rationalize this!
Ha! don't think you really need any help rationalizing this!!! JUST do it!!! LOL!!! I am always looking for ways to squeeze in more Disney time..........can't you tell by my PTR........flight changed 3 times!!! LOL!

WELL, you see, I've been following your PTR and since you have changed your flight so easily, I went on SW website and checked out the possiblility of changing MY flight. Nothing popped up for later in the day on Monday 10/9 (my last day) BUT there is a later flight on Wednesday 10/11 which would give me time to jet to a park early before leaving. Since I'm toying with the idea of getting an AP, why not take full advantage and park hop as much as possible (something I've NEVER done even with park hoppers & APs - go figure) and still have a day or two for some downtime at the Dolphin. or at least some afternoon downtime before strolling over to WS for F&WF.
So, Lisa, you started it!!! Gather up the girls and c'mon down and visit during my stay!

Honestly - you can rationalize it for multiple reasons:
1) It's the year of your 40th birthday. How many people are robbed of their 40th birthdays due to illness or death? You should truly celebrate it. Heck, I think you should make it a goal to spend 40 days there in the year surrounding your 40th (so you've got til you turn 41 to make it happen).
2) As the song says "she works hard for her money..." and you do. You should reward yourself for your hard work
3) You should take full advantage of that AP, or it may just burn a hole in your pocket. (Plus if you do the AP discount on the room you can save some dough on your extra nights.)
4) You've already seen that you can easily switch your flight. Just. Do. It.

How's that??

Shoot! I haven't even booked my flights yet and already have in my head to go down the night before on the late flight.
You ladies are so good to me!!
I really like the idea of spending 40 days (wish it could be all at once!). So, let's see. 8 days so far then add another 7 if I extend the October solo trip. That's 15 - only 25 more days. I have 10 vacation days - 5 of which I will use in October. Add two weekend days to the remaining 5 gives me another week which would leave 18 days. Unfortunately, Christmas falls on a weekend and car dealerships never close for other holidays so (take breath here) if I went for another two weeks to get my 40 days, I'd be taking a total of 10 unpaid work days. Hmmm, guess I better start playing the lottery
I also like the idea of a cheaper flight. BUT when I checked, the flight is actually a wee bit more expensive than my original flight home due to the later departure time. However, can we really put a price on being able to spend just a few precious hours in a park prior to going back home? I think not.
Concerning the AP room discount. I will have to do some research on this. I am currently getting the AAA rate which I believe is 15%. I'll have to find out how much an AP rate room is.
OR scrap the AP and use only the three days I have left on my non expiring pass since MNSSHP will technically give me an extra day in a park. That would be 4 park days and 3 down days. Currently, I could still get away with only using 2 days off the non expiring pass if I plan on not going to Epcot on my second day since the Dolphin has it's own Food & Wine Classic that nite. I could use the daylight hours to chill out at the resort. Then use two days to split the F&WF between Sat & Sun. My flight leaves too early on Monday to allow a park visit.
I think I'll just start saving some dough and see what I come up with right before AP prices go up. If I purchase an AP voucher but don't use it on my trip, I can still save it for a later date correct? Or does the voucher have an expiration date?
Thank goodness I have time to think about this!! Of course, if I keep thinking this way, I'll be doing a split stay over the course of two weeks!! NOW THAT,, MY FRIENDS, WOULD BE HEAVEN!
It seems like there is a Disney Planning pinball machine inside my head and the ball just keeps bouncing back and forth coming up with new ideas.
I think it is rationalized perfectly...lol I am not one to deter you from your plans, I just did the same thing when it came to our trip, said I might as well take the week and extended the trip by 3 days

hee hee hee (said while rubbing my hands together slyly)
Just catching up on the PTR. Sound like plans are moving along nicely even with the pin ball machine in your head. I'm looking forward to MNSSHP this year. It will be my first time too. Sorry about your camera but glad you were not hurt. I've made solo trip before but none to Disney. I have "alone" time there but not a full solo trip so I'd love to hear all about it.
Looking forward to more.

Thank you! I actually did the Wild Africa Trek solo in February and that put the idea in my head of a full solo trip. It started out small with just a long weekend at F&WF but now I'm trying to turn it into a full week with some long overdue "me time".
I'm really looking forward to MNSSHP, I love Halloween and I've never seen MK done up for my favorite holiday!
I keep sneaking peeks at pics online and I CANNOT wait!!
p.s. so I was going crazy over the weekend and priced out two nights stay to extend my vakay to a week. I really am impressed by the WL pics people have been posting. As it stands right now, I'd have to add almost $700 for two nights . Really going to have to think about this one!
