A Dream That Came True! The First Timers TR - COMPLETED 9/10 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow! CP's food looked delish. I was going to eat there for breakfast on our trip, but the budget ended up not letting us!
It sounded like a great day at MK. I am glad you got into CP for Scottie's bday!
I love the Frontier Donald, he looks so cute all dressed up like Davy Crockett! Isn’t it fun surprising our kids….Scotties reaction to eating at CP was adorable! I too love key lime pie…but where do you find a good piece? Or do you have a good recipe? It’s great you found crocs in your size; I do hope they helped you feet. Great way to keep us hanging in waiting for more…I love it!! Ya know you should write books, you would be very good at keeping readers wanting more.
I LOVE CP. Tigger is my favorite character, so that restaurant is a must do for us. We had breakfast there last time we went. Since it was my birthday celebration meal, we had the confetti on the table too. Our server, Tony, brought me a cupcake with a candle and a card signed by all the characters too. It was terrific. DD and DBF were also celebrating birthdays that trip, but they didn't get the cupcakes, cards, or confetti at their birthday meals. Their meals weren't at CP though. LOL It made me feel really special to get the card and to have that little bit of extra done for me. I had planned the entire trip and made sure that there were lots of little bits of magic for them, so having this bit of magic for me was wonderful.
Scottie's reaction to getting to eat at CP on his birthday is priceless!! Glad you enjoyed your meal there. Last year was the first trip I had worn Crocs, and it was the first trip that my feet didn't hurt or have a blister!!
You can't leave us hanging like that! I need to know what you found!!!!!
I am enjoying your report and your pictures. You can tell by the look of joy on Scottie's face that he was having a magical trip. I also called my son Boo Bear, but he's a bit big for it now at 24 years and 6 ft tall.
I am loving ths trip report so far, but you can not leave us hanging....what did you find? Hope it was not big blisters!
Sounds like Scottie is hving a great birthday trip and I am so glad to hear it is everything you have dreamed of your whole life. Disney is just THE BEST!!!!
Can't wait to read more of your report. You are doing really well for a first timer visiting the world, sounds like you pretty much had everything happen that you hoped for and have some amazingly short wait times on several typically long wait time attractions.
Congrat on the Crocs! And and wonderful meal at CP! I just love it--I had my birthday breakfast there this year! I'm a little worried about the next post, so don't leave me hanging! Something not good at all sounds not good at all!
We really did love CP, it was good food and great fun!

Thanks! I actually have considered writing lol, but didn't figure I'd be able to really do a good enough job. Being in retail for so long, I know first hand how those little compliments can do so much for those special employees!

The food at CP was really delicious and they had choices that I hadn't expected at all!

I have a wonderful recipe for Key Lime Pie, will try and hunt it down for you! I've actually always wanted to write lol.

It really is magical when they go that extra mile isn't it?

The "boo bear" came about because when he was born I kept calling him my "pooh bear" and my husband threw a fit lol. He said no way was I calling him "pooh". So I called him boo bear instead lol, and it just stuck.

You just might be on to something there....
Seriously though we had an amazing time and it was truly magical!
I am sorry about the wait everyone!! I have battled a horrid migraine for two days now and just couldn't deal with anything. Today I feel better, still hurt but its more bearable now. So....on with the update....
On taking off my socks, I see blisters in four different places on my feet! We're only on day two and I've got blisters already?? Worse, they were right in that vulnerable spot where your toes meet your foot. Very difficult to put a band-aid on and really painful to walk on, but I've got crocs now, so that should help. I soak in the tub for a while and then rested. I woke to my alarm at 7pm and decide to see what Scottie's up to. He's having a blast at the arcade lol, I should've guessed. I browsed around the gift shop a bit more and bought some moleskin for my feet, and then we headed 10 steps away to Shutter's for dinner.
We were seated fairly quickly and had a very nice server, but she seemed a bit overwhelmed. We waited ten minutes before we even got drinks! We were delighted to find the Lava Smoothie was on the dining plan!
She apologized for the delay, and went into her spiel about how the dining plan works. (Am I the only one who gets annoyed that they seem to do this at every single TS? I mean, really, once is good enough for me lol.) Scottie decided on the mixed greens salad with the mango vinaigrette..
while I opted for the classic ceasar salad.
The Mango Vinaigrette on Scottie's salad was really good. Mine was ok.
For dinner, Scottie ordered the Caribbean Pasta with shrimp
and I had the Land and Sea (Grilled Skirt Steak with Lime Cilantro Shrimp) with the Shutter's potatoes (which are a mashed sweet potatoes) and seasonal vegetables (which was a type of squash, my favorite!).
Scottie ended up not even eating his pasta, it was really bad! My steak was good, but not phenomenal, and the sweet potatoes were heavenly! The shrimp was overcooked and the squash was nearly raw and had some spice on it that just didn't go well at all. We were talking with a family at the next table and they had the same complaints about the food. (In fact, they ended up playing in the arcade with Scottie and we had a wonderful time talking.) Scottie left to go back to the arcade because he was tired of waiting for dessert (He had ordered the fruit plate and I had ordered the Key Lime Tart) to arrive. After he left, the waitress came by and asked if I'd like our desserts to go. She brought back our desserts and a special piece of chocolate cake for Scottie's birthday and apologized for not having it ready before he left. She was really nice, but obviously swamped and needed more help. I went to get Scottie and we headed back to the room for bed as we had an early morning shuttle to be ready for! Tomorrow: Universal Islands of Adventure and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!!!
My Key Lime Tart was delicious..
Your desert looks delicious! Looking forward to hearing about your experience at WWoHP. We had so much fun there in September, at least before the crowds got bad.
Sorry your meal at Shutters was not up to par, I had a similar experience a few years ago! Hope UIA is great! I can't wait to hear about Harry Potter World. I'm really looking forward to visiting it one of these days.
i'm very much looking forward to reading about your day at universal! my husband and i are going in may and, while i'm excited, he CAN NOT WAIT!
and speaking of can not wait--i'm another one of those people who is stalking this thread, waiting for the next installment! i was excited to see one today! i'm sorry about your poor feet and your unfortunate meal. i don't do well in close-toe shoes for very long--but sadly, sandals don't work in all temperatures! as unattractive as it may be, if sandals are not an option, i wear my hiking boots!
