The way We do a Disney Re-Do ~~ Beach club Aug 13-22 - FINISHED!!! 1/20 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The clam bake sounds wonderful. They are a staple here on Cape. Love me some clams!!!
Nice to hear there was something for everyone to eat and enjoy! Sounds like a great meal, though I am sorry about your cold and resulting headache.
Hope tomorrow is better!
More please!
Wasn't fond of the clams...but I will not hold that against CMC!

Thanks--and I think your review was one that was making me most look forward to the meal! Although...it would have been hard to pay OOP for the kids here (except for DD who ate more crab than me...)
Sorry to hear about your crisis. Hope all is well soon.
What an awesome surprise to have waiting in your room and I've always wanted to try the Clam bake, but worried the rest of the family would not find much to eat. If we are fortunate enough to make it back to Disney after this trip, that will have to be one on our list. So happy your re-do is going so well.

I'm just finding your TR now, so excited to hear about the re-do!
I'm glad that DME was much smoother this time around- and the picture if great!
I am DYING to stay at BC- I've made the executive decision that this is where we are staying in Jan. 2012 for the marathon. Your experience so far there sounds truly magical!
I'm glad you all got a few rides in on TSMM- sounds like everyone had fun (and you have a competitive group like me!) I'm glad the GAC is there to help your family have great trip! We luckily don't require a GAC but I think I would feel the same way as you and would be hesitant to use it unless it was absolutely necessary. I'm glad that you could feel comfortable using it though because that truly is what it's there for. Now a story from our trip last week about guests who unfortunately misuse it...DH, DS, MIL and FIL all decided to ride KRR at AK- I sat out because it advised againt pregnant guests riding. So I found a shady spot under the FP booth to wait. About 15 minutes later, I see MIL and FIL heading towards me without DH and DS. Evidently the other family in their tube (a mother and 2 children) had offered for DH and DS to ride again with them and bypass the line using the GAC they had because the father has a bad back. Of course, neither my ILs or DH knew what a GAC is or what it's purpose is, in fact MIL said the she had "special fast passes." I knew immediately what it was and when DH got back I asked him more about it and sure enough I was right. I explained to him what it should be used for and that family using it to ride repeatedly (without the guest for whom the GAC was issued for and inviting other guests to use it too) really isn't right. He felt terrible about it, he had no idea.

That is awful. It is situations like that which make us feel uncomfortable using the GAC. My Hannah can look pretty "normal" (at least in a short line--last trip it was apparent that she was anything but "normal..." ).
I was glad that a few CMs scrutinized our pass--looked at the name, asked who Hannah was, engaged her (as much as they could.) Although I initially felt like they were questioning our use of it, I think they were trying to reach out to a special child. I had a few silly smirks from CM's after a conversation with Hannah...they knew why we had the pass! But when she is in a good mood, it can manifest as sweet and a bit endearing...LOL!!!!
Another thing about the GAC---My son was having a hard time understanding why we did not always get to use the "Hannah pass" (as we called it). We explained that we only get to use it when riding with her, not when we "divide and conquer" or when there is something she would not ride. He pointed out how they "probably would not know." I agreed and stood my ground. Besides the obvious ethical issue---I did not want to risk having the privelege revoked in the future. The GAC is the only thing that turned stress into magic and led us to plan another trip...
What a wonderful surprise in your room! You may have convinced me to try the Clam Bake eventually - I have a shellfish allergy and I don't like fish, but it sounds like there still would be lots for me to eat (and DH would be ecstatic with all the seafood!)

Hi, we received the white chocalate Mickey and strawberries too,At the yacht club.My daughter finally let us eat him in october. He was in our fridge for 2 months. I miss the disney magic. We also got a plate of 6 bakery fresh cookies and milk too
My father in law nearly fell off his chair when the $280 check came and we were NOT on the dining plan .4 adults and 2 kids. Gratuity added in
Just found your TR and signing on.... Sounds like a truly MAGICAL first day. I'm so thankful Disney offers the GAC for the people who need it and I'm glad you got to benefit from it. I can't wait to hear more.
Glad that you had such a great experience at Cape May. I have considered eating there, but shellfish is a problem for me. Were there alot of non-shellfish fish options?

There were many options...There was a great salad bar, carved meat station, breads, potatoes, and of course, the "kids" options of pizza, pasta, and chicken nuggets. That said, if some in your party are not fans of the seafodd, it REALLY would not be worth the price.

We ate the gift while at WDW--it would not have survived the plan ride back to MN. But it did seem sad to start eating away pices of Mickey...
$280! Ouch!! Hoping you had many seafood lovers in your party!

It definitely is a slow moving boatride from DHS to the resorts....but most of the time we found the time to relax a plus and as your little one figured out, it is a great time to take a quick nap
Loved the surprise in your room, those strawberries looked delicious. I actually made some at home recently (with some dairy free chocolate chips) and even my oldest proclaimed them better then the ones that they sell at the bakery (even though I think the true trick is getting some amazingly sweet starwberries )
Great review of the Clam Bake. Glad that you had such great service with the chef there. We also had some wonderful service with the chef when we went there for breakfast. I have often wanted to try the clam bake but I ended up passing it to the side as with the fish / shellfish allergies I did not think that there would be much to enjoy but it sounds like they had more than enough for those that do not eat fish / shellfish.
What a busy, busy day of arrival but so glad that you got to do the major plan on your list today....TSMM and how cool that you got to ride it twice. Sounds like the perfect day (even though it was very wet) to start off a wonderful trip.

Only my hubby likes seafood... I won't touch the stuff. My 11 yr old . She's a goofball. she took self portraits of herself and mickey on her phone.... She would not let us dive into the treat. I loved the Yacht and Beach club. only wish they had a real food court
