Our Disney Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assasins - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 9/16 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The storm really came in strong it sounds. Glad they were able to keep you at the WL and tht you did not even have to change your room...
It was a great offer that they could have kept you until Friday but I agree that by Wendesday the worst would have probably passed.
Can't wait until the family hears they get an extra day at Disney....
WEll yes we all THOUGHT it would be over by Wednesday. But for anyone following Fay on the news, or anyone who was there. FAY definitely had her own ideas, and she is not threw with us just yet! My two DKids were happy to stay at WL another night, because they loved it there and loved their bunk beds. My DD9 who had called "top bunk" way back in May, Even gave her brother the "Top bunk" for that last night, since she said she had only called it for the nights we were supposed to stay. And since this was extra, she took the bottom. I was so proud of her graciousness and her maturity at that moment! As for another day in the world. We were really unsure at that point what would be happening in The world the next day. Thanks for reading my first TR. Tune in for more!

That was very mature of your DD!! She obviously has great parents!
Sleeping in till 8am felt really good on Tuesday 8/19, knowing we didn't have to pack up and leave, it was very calming. Mom and Dad on the other hand were worked up into their own bit of panic about their flight, and I think, very worried about us. My parents have only two children, and 4 grandchildren. I think they were quite worried about one half of their family driving into harms way. So they seemed to really relax, when I met them on the balcony that morning and told them about us staying another night! I told them not to worry, becuase, if their flight got cancelled we would all double up somehow and they could stay with us for the night! So then everyone sortof took a deep breath and we began making plans for the day. Yes I said plans, we would make the best of this vacation, and have a good time anyway! We had a 9am ADR at Wispering Canyon. Mom and Dad had a 1pm ADR at Whispering canyon. Originally we were all supposed to eat at 9am but M&D had cancelled due to weather and flight worries, and we couldnt get them back on. No matter, we would have more time with them. Their flight didn't leave till 8:35pm. I headed off with my family to WCC. We had a good waiter,a nd he immediatley came and threw our napkins at us! He said he was glad to meet us etc. He came back with our water. But he only gave us three and placed those directly in front of DH, DD9 and myself. Son, a big water drinker, who funnily enough usually drinks all of his and mine too, Didn't get any. LOL. He looked dejected, (remember this is our first WCC experience, even though I have been prepped by all of you PP freinds!) DS asked if he could also have some water. "oh you are thirsty, says the waiter" and he ducks behind the wall and comes out with something behind his back...bubbys big drink..jpg We all had a big laugh, and I was glad that the Disney Magic was still going for us. The meal was really good. (Although it is the same exact food you can order in Roaring Forks for less.) The only difference is that you get as much as you want family style. But the food is very tasty and both kids love the waffles.Wispering canyon Kate and John.jpg Even the really big kid, my DH. None of us eats catsup on our breakfast food, so I felt no need to do it just for the reactoin. But the table next to us did. So it was great, we got to enjoy the whole show, it was really a big one, without being directly involved! They obviously, a family of six, with teen kids, were not passporters, and had no idea what they had done, and what would happen. It was much funnier to watch than if we had done it! (no details, because I am trying not to do spoilers!!) After a great time at breakfast we met up with My parents, and they were still concerned about their flight, So they stayed behind to pack and check their luggage with DME, then have their lunch, while the four of us headed for MK. Space mountain had not yet been conquered by our tribe and we were on a true Mission! Believe it or not, the boats were running this morning. Incredible. We made it to the park by about 10;30 and went to straight to Tomorrow Land. SM was only a 20 minute wait, So we waited. I know that it is scheduled to close later this year for updates and renovation. And boy does it show. I couldn't beleive they had taken out all of the "stuff" you used to look at while you were waiting. In the 70' and 80's when I last rode it there was a lot of "space stuff" to look at especially in the loadingarea. Now it is bare. We got front seats, too cool. I rode behind DS in front. It is still a great ride!!! I know it isn't as fast or scary as some rides, but it is bumby and jerky and LONG! I forgot how long the ride lasts. Its awesome! DS, and DD were thrilled, and even DH thought it was great. Of course it called for a second time. We did Buzz again, no line. I did really badly this time. Then we headed out of Tomorrow land. What to do next. Well, we thought, TSM was on our must do list, and we didn't get to do that yet. It had stopped pouring at this point and was only drizzling. The wind wasn't too bad. So we decided to head to HS for a while. The crowds were so light in Mk. I figured we could surely get to ride TSM today. Off we went. The ferry was about to go, so we hopped on. At the time we took these pictures we didn't know it would be our last look at MK!
It was sort of a long way over to HS. Boat then bus. The wind picked up a lot on the way, as did the rain. When we arrived it was time to get our ponchos out again. Moving quicky to get back to the pixar lot. We find that it is a LOT more crowded here than it was at MK. HMM. Unfortunately, there are no fast passes left for TSM. ANd there is a 70 minute wait time. Nuts. But we decide to wait anyway, it is our last chance to ride it. The line begins in some rope mazes outside the building and the rain is seriously coming down. The green army men make and appearance and it is fun to watch. They are really good costumes. But they leave after only a couple minutes, I think too much rain. The wind is blowing everyones ponchos up, and we are glad when we finally get into the building. I still cant see Andy's room, but at least we can get our ponchos off!
Will the ride be worth the wait, and ... Sheri has forgotten all about that dogone rental car. coming up soon.
Just catching up. It sounds as though you were enjoying you're vacation despite Fay. We were there the same time too (actually left 8/19) but the only rain we saw Monday at the MK were two short downpours in the afternoon. The first one probably lasted only 20 minutes and the other was maybe for 2 or 3 minutes - we were on Jungle Cruise at the time. It wasn't raining when we boarded or got off, but it poured in the middle, And after that, there was no more rain while we were in the park. We left the park about 9 and went back to AS Sports - where it was dry because Lenny and Abby went swimming until about 10:30. We loaded our truck up until about 1 AM, but I don't remember it raining. Lenny said the thinks there was a quick shower, but that was it.

You will see that we didn't know it wasn't so bad at MK, Mom and Dad were there while we were at HS and in Mk it was mostly dry. It started raining like crazy at WL at about 5pm. Tuesday, and didn't stop the rest of the evening. Yet, as you will see, the pools remainded open! Too funny to see the life guards in their rain suits guarding the pool.LOL
We Love Whispering Canyon!! DS ate his ice-cream with a fork because he was afraid of what kind of spoon they'd bring him!! We were at MK Tuesday morning too, we were on SM about noon! I'm hoping you liked the TSM ride!!
Guess Fay was not stopping anyone from ejoying their trip...especially over at DHS (I have read in other TR's as well how surprised people were at the crowds there). Breakfast sounded like a great time and loads of fun...

Now life guards in rain suits - that is a picture. But it is amazing how it can rain in one area and not another. We were eating in a Denny's once (on our first Florida trip years ago) and I clearly remember it raining on one side of the building but the other was dry and sunny. My parents thought something was wrong with me because I sat there looking from one window to the other.
I'm glad the WL was able to accomodate you.
We were at HS all day that day. The only lines we encountered were TSM, which we skipped and the Backlot tour.
