Dreaming of a Disney spring break! THIS SECTION COMPLETED - Page 77 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Memories is a great show! Don't miss it! We had an amazing view from the Rose Garden, but you have to be on Main St to see the photos! Sorry we lost you in the crowd Cheryl, Brandon was behind me and I was trying to not lose anyone, but it didn't work out. We hopped on an Animal Kingdom bus and knew that we'd see you in the morning! It was great to see Bob &Larry!
I did not get to see the whole castle show in February but what I did see was amazing. I am so looking forward to seeing it in full when we go in August. Glad that you found Mark and got to enjoy some more wonderful company for the castle show and Wishes. The pictures were great of Wishes but I have really fallen in love with this shot...not sure what it is exactly that calls out to me so much but it is perfect.
After many hours, almost as many interruptions, and a break for sleep, I read your PTR/TR from start to finish! (It was quite intimidating, as there were 75 pages when I got started, but you hooked me with your first couple of posts, and I just couldn't stop reading!)
I won't comment on everything that I liked in your report, because it would take forever. All I can say is that I love the way you write, and I feel like I've just had a bonus trip to Disney World from the comfort of my kitchen table!
I LOVE your photos, you really have an eye for the great shots. It's so fun reading about all of the different people you are meeting up with on your trip, and you've made me super excited for the Memories show! Can't wait to read more, now that I'm all caught up!
Wow, now that's what I call dedication! Glad you enjoyed it all!
I had thought the castle light show replaced Wishes. I'm so glad to see they are running both.
So you don't lose Mark (or anyone else) on your next trip, you need to get one of those sticks with the mickey ears on top like they have on shore excursions
Or I just need to get Mark wearing one of his wacky hats from his collection, maybe?
Sunday 10 April – part one: what do you mean... you have a fear of heights?
Annoyingly, after our late last night and getting to bed at 11.15pm, I woke up again at 5am. I think part of it is allergies, so I’m going to start taking my allergy medication before we go to bed to see if that helps things. I got up for an hour or so and left the photos uploading, as I was just so tired and headed back to bed until Stitch and Mickey officially woke us up at 7am.
I headed out to get breakfast shortly afterwards, grabbing a chocolate muffin for Mark and a coconut slice for me, along with a big carton of orange juice. Need to make sure we keep drinking lots in this heat!
On the way back, I bumped into Wendy and her family, who were just heading out for breakfast at Kouzzina.
We headed down to the lobby just before 8.30am as that’s when we had agreed to meet Sean, Sharon and Ciaran. I went to concierge to find out the name of the calliope that we had seen on our Segway tour at Fort Wilderness and, although that took a while (the Cast Member kept asking if I meant the Hoop Dee Doo, as I said it played music ), but we got there in the end. Apparently, it’s new there from the Magic Kingdom and is only a recent addition. The Cast Member was very pleased I’d asked the question and said that she may go there to have a look for herself.
We soon met up with Sean, Sharon and Ciaran and showed them around the Beach Club lobby.
Then it was off to Epcot.
We walked through a deserted World Showcase, which is always good for photos, stopping for the obligatory funny photo in Canada.
On the way, we got lots more photos of the Flower and Garden Festival, swapping messages with Heather. We knew that they were at Soarin’, so we headed that way. On the way, we got a few more photos...
I thought this sign was very neat!
We could tell that it was really quiet in the park when we walked into the Land. It was about 9.15am and Soarin’ was only showing a 20 minute wait. With my Guest Assistance Card, we walked straight on, leaving Ciaran with Mark, so that Sharon and Sean could do it and see whether it was something that they felt Ciaran could do in the future.
Just as we were getting close to boarding, Sharon noticed the warning signs about having a fear of heights and said that she wasn’t sure if this was for her. Yes, we forgot that little fact about her... We chatted it through with her and when she said that she had done a chair lift in the past, we told her that it was very similar and that she would be fine.
I think, after that, Heather and I were both worried about her and whether she’d enjoy it. We needn’t have been, as we heard her laughing during it and realised that she was having fun. She did say when she got off, that her legs were like jelly and she wouldn’t do it again, but she was glad that she had done it, which was the main thing.
I am glad Sharon went on Soarin'!!! I don't understand it, but recently I've been having issues with thinking I'm going to fall out of the seat. It's a very weird feeling for me to have.
Finally all caught up. Looks like you had a much better experience at Chef Mickey's than we did! I wish we could have had all of that character interaction. Anyway, I can't wait to see the Memories show at MK since I've heard nothing but great things about it. I guess Mark's feet were feeling better by the next day?
I'm so glad to hear Sharon was OK with the heights! My DH is afraid of heights too and that's the one thing keeping him from doing Soarin'. He did go on a ski lift though, so that's a great comparison, thanks for the idea.
What a great walk through a quiet world showcase. Those are beautiful photos!

Caught back up after not having a chance to go online over the weekend (we spent Saturday at Hersheypark and I thought of you so often with them having a lot of animated cows and stuffed cows at the Chocolate World tour! ).
Glad you're having so much fun! The crowds at MK sound awful, though - glad Mark wasn't lost for long!
