As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Those views are incredible of Toronto and you captured it so well! It's funny how timing is everything and the sky seemed to clear up as you got to your window table! Great views of the sunset as well. Glad you avoided disaster with the water as that was way too close of a call!

Wow! Luck was really with you on this visit. The window seat and views were wonderful, and the water missed the electronics! Is this a moving restaurant or were you up walking around getting the different views?

You are so right. We really did luck out, certainly on this portion of the trip anyway... perhaps not so much when we got to Florida, but I'll get to that... eventually... I promise!

It really is a beautiful view from up there. I'm glad the rain cooperated by stopping.
I was so pleased with the view, as I've wanted to visit the CN Tower for so many years. I had no idea what the view from there would be like, I just always thought it looked kind of neat!
Saturday 17 September – part ten: must put the camera down!
Eventually I had to put the camera down, as food began to arrive. I went for the watermelon and local feta cheese with living greens, lemon glazed shallots, olivada, and fresh mint. It was a very unusual combination of flavours, and not one I’ve had before, but I really liked it.
Mark had the house smoked Atlantic salmon, with caper berries, dark rye, creamed goat cheese, and pickled red onion, and having sampled a bite, I can confirm it was very good.
As time wore on, we got twilight views of the city…
… then night-time views…

Sadly, the darker it got, the harder it became to photograph anything outside, because of the glare of the light from the restaurant. They did turn the lights down at one point, but that seemed to only be for the sunset, and I wish they’d left it at the lower lighting for the rest of the evening. Oh well, you can’t have everything…
For main course, I had the Fogo Island cod three ways – salt cod fritter with romesco sauce, which was by far my favourite. Every bite of this was just a delight. There was also the Cod belly and Yukon Gold potato gratin, which frankly just tasted like a fish pie to me, and I was disappointed with that. The third element, the pan seared Fogo Island cod with carrot puree, asparagus, and mushrooms, was very nice, so it was a bit of a mixed dish.
Mark had the Alberta prime rib of beef with sour cream and horseradish mash, asparagus and natural jus.
For dessert, Mark opted for the dark chocolate tower with sour cheeries, and Dillon’s rose gin crème Anglais. He admitted it wasn’t what he expected, and was a bit disappointed with it.
I had the strawberry and pistachio pavlova with whipped cream and white chocolate curls, and this was divine – the perfect end to a wonderful meal.
Our server was very good, and at no point did we feel rushed at all. In fact, he made a point of telling us to take our time. Despite that, we left about 8:30pm, having been there for less than two hours, which surprised me, as I felt as if we’d been there much longer.
As for the atmosphere, well you really don’t get any better, do you? This, however, is not a meal for the faint hearted when it comes to paying for meals. It came in at $280 CAD including tip, and a bottle of wine between us. The prix fixe menu is $64 for two courses, and $79 for three courses, so you are talking a big minimum spend. However, you’ll pay something like $35 to just go up the CN Tower, so if you look at it like that, and don’t buy any additional drinks, it’s not that much for a superb experience, where you can sit as long as you like, and enjoy a great meal.

.. then we headed down the stairs to the first lookout area, as this is complimentary with purchase of a prix fixe menu. There wasn’t much to see here, as you had the same problem as in the restaurant – the light reflecting back from the glass.
We headed down to the open air level, but again trying to get photos wouldn’t exactly be easy…
We also found the glass floor, although I suspect it’s more dramatic during daylight hours, as I really couldn’t see that much. It was interesting though.

We bought a Christmas ornament in the gift shop, but the selection of fridge magnets was truly appalling, so purchase of that will have to wait.
We were able to see the tower all lit up, and it appeared to go different colours, which was pretty neat.
We made our way back to the hotel, having had a thoroughly wonderful evening, after a not-so-great drive to get here. Toronto had truly redeemed itself.
The weather today was dry and sunny in parts, but also heavy rain in others, with temperatures in the low 70s. The best thing today was dinner at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower. The worst thing today was the terrible weather and the accidents on the way to Toronto. The funniest thing today was Chef Jimmy! Today we tried taking the tour of the Parliament building in Ottawa And the result was it was well worth doing. The most magical moment today was seeing the amazing view from our table at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower.
I can see how dinner for two isn't that much of a stretch when you factor in the admission, for sure! But when I factored in our kids too - who don't eat much and wouldn't appreciate the food, it wasn't worth it to me! Turns out, my DH who doesn't like heights, didn't even want to go up there in the first place! ha! It was a great experience for you two though. What luck with the sunset!
That outdoor bit of the viewing area is insanely windy! We walked around as much as we could and on the one side of it, got nearly blown over. Nuts! Bummer you couldn't see much through the glass floor.
