Eating My Words PTR: Two Foodies Cancel 2016 Trip (10/7/16) - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I LOVE your TR's!!! Congrats on the new trip!! The Yacht Club ROCKS and your meals sound wonderful!! I hope you enjoy Flying Fish cafe as much as we did!! Your plans so far sound amazing!!!!
His Drewness couldn't get 7DMT at all despite signing in at the crack of opening! Weird since previously we've had no problem getting it for more than one day even week of Christmas last year. WAAAAAHHH!!! (I exaggerate somewhat. Really am not terribly upset because we've done it several times.)
Hmmmm. Maybe that suggests it's the trip to do the standby line. We've always had FP's so haven't ever seen the visuals along the standby entrance which people say are fun. Worth it to us? I doubt it as we could be doing HM, POTC or seeing what's new at Memento Mori instead of working our way through the 7DMT line for a ride so short it hardly seems worth it.
Compensating for that mildly upsetting lack, we have our usual Epcot and DHS favorites: Disney Characters M&G and TT at Epcot with TSMM at HS. He also got one for Buzz Lightyear in MK to avenge himself on my beating him a few years ago. Had to have been beginner's luck. He's a much better gamer than I with far better reflexes. I gave up on the Maleficent and Frozen iPad games at about lvl 50; he's gone waaaaay beyond that on both. So, we shall see if I can whup up on him again.
We passed on another FP for Winnie the Pooh which was cute but not that great a ride, we thought. Redoing Peter Pan, however, which we both enjoyed last year.
And this trip, we WILL get in Carousel of Progress. We skipped it last trip, and I really missed that old favorite. I have such fond recollections of it at Disneyland on my first Disney trip...ummm...almost FIFTY YEARS ago. Frightening thought that it's been that long ago, but it has.
I'm hoping to do Great Movie Ride, too. I really enjoyed it a couple years ago, and we didn't get it in either last trip.
That's where we are with FP's, although as usual, I'm far more excited about our ADR lineup. Am very eager to try the new Flying Fish menu and see the decor, not to mention our return to Queen Victoria's Room at V&A's. We're so enamored of Disney foodstuffs we've even been planning what to buy with snack credits.
Hard to believe we're a smidgen under eight weeks out already. Cannot WAIT!

Sorry to hear about not being able to get FP+ for 7DMT! At least you have many more attractions to look forward to as well as V&A's QVR!

Great FP picks!! I can't wait to do that in 2 weeks!! We feel the same about 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. It's adorable but much too fast and although we would love a FP for it again, we have done it lots!!
Congrats on your FP+, minus the lack of one for SDMT! Recently Carousel of Progress has gotten a new exterior paint job and new carpet and upholstery for the interior. Luke has shown me photos and it looks so revitalized. This has always been a favorite for me.
I LOVE CoP Narrator is Jean Sheppard who I listened to every night at 9pm on WOR radio musing about the topics of the day or retelling tales of KIDDOM growing up in Indiana ( Think A CHRISTMAS STORY ) or of his misadventures while in Company K in the ARMY His Books of short stories are among some of the funniest I've ever read. Plus I remember it from The 64 Worlds Fair

Dot I am so very sorry but you totally crack me up!! You guys are going to have a fabulous time!! I am truly sad that you were unable to get 7DMT but I bet you are right about the standby line!!. And as for Flying Fish, I am totally jealous!! We tried like HE double toothpicks to work that on this trip but I don't think it is going to happen!! Enjoy!!
Sounds overall like an amazing trip and I've heard so much about the difficulty of getting SDMT for FP+. I've done all my ressies for my trip and you can see these FP+ on my PTR when I post. Should be shortly and hope you are following along with it!

I cannot wait to hear all about all the places you & Drew will be enjoying! Holding my breath about LTT, since I have that planned for my September trip in 2017!
But you & Drew have planned a truly Magical Vacation..... and I can Definitely wait until you both get home.. you need to keep your focus at WDW!!!.... I feel like Templeton when he was headed to the fair in Charlotte's Web...which has been playing alot here on HBO.... I know it isn't a reference to a Disney character...but it is about FOOD...LOL

It's a sad day indeed when you determine you must cancel your trip.
His Drewness has had terrible pain in one shoulder for some time that the ortho surgeon he saw on Monday suspects may be due to a torn rotator cuff. He'll need at least an arthroscopy to remove arthritic scar tissue if not the more extensive rotator cuff repair.
And then, he likely will need surgery on his bad left foot, another lengthy recovery.
At least, we both chuckled when I quipped, "It's like Tommy John surgery. You'll be out all next [baseball] season."
Unfortunately, we've no idea when we might be able to go again, so rescheduling wasn't feasible.
Oh, well. It's not as if we've never been to WDW and will never return. But, it is a huge disappointment.
