The Promise of Spring: Flower & Garden Festival 4.0 -- A Cam and Luke TR COMPLETED 8/27 - Page 64 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your meal at Homecoming looked so delicious that I think I'm going to have to add that to one of my reservations in my upcoming trips! So glad that you got to see Wishes one last time before it went away. I'm looking forward to seeing the new show in October to see if it compares to our beloved Wishes. So sad this trip is coming to an end but I know you have another PTR starting soon hopefully!

My! You had quite a busy day but it was all good with lots of relaxing down time along the way. I think I'll have to try Art Smith's when I go back to WDW. I love good southern cooking as well, and your meal looked quite good. I'm glad you got to see Wishes for one last time and had a good group of people to share it with.
That dinner looked so yummy!! I look forward to trying it some day. I need a long trip to just focus on restaurants!
Good the crowds kept you warm. And how awesome to see Wishes once more.
Yum! Your meal at Homecoming looked amazing, even without the picture of the chocolate cake. It's on our list for our next family trip in a couple of years. My boys have recently re-discovered fried chicken. So between Homecoming and the 50's Primetime Cafe, they're going to get their fill. I have loved following along on this trip, just like all the others. Thanks for writing!
What a wonderful trip! It was perfect to end your last full day with Wishes.
I ate exactly what you ate at Homecomin' and loved it! Deviled eggs and the fried chicken with creamy mashed potatoes! I sat at the table right behind where Luke sat. Loved it!
I can't wait to go back to Homecoming in November. So cool that you sat very near where we were. I love the décor of the restaurant.

It was such a bittersweet moment seeing Wishes for the last time. But now I'm excited to see Happily Ever After in November.

We did have a leisurely end to our Epcot time. Not sure why some folks feel the need to b pushy, but these definitely picked the wrong spot.
What a great last day! Love the pictures from Epcot, and your dinner looks amazing!! How lucky you were able to see Wishes one last time!
When we were planning this trip, we had three nights available for Wishes, and thank goodness we made it on the final night.

Your writing always makes me feel like I'm at WDW. Very satisfying when I don't know when my next trip 'home' will be. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much! Writing it makes me feel like I'm reliving the trip, too. It helps that I scrapbook while writing, too.

I really want to go, but I can't bring myself to, not with so many other amazing restaurants opening up around Disney.
Good for all of you defending that family's spots for Wishes!
Southern cooking isn't for everyone, but when it's what a person grows up with it is definitely comfort food.
By the time that family tried to push in our little group had bonded over our shared love of Wishes, so they pick the wrong place to try and move in.
I'm so glad you were able to see Wishes one final time.
Your meal at Homecoming looks fantastic! I'm a southern girl too, and grew up on that kind of food. Yum!
We were so glad we finally made it for the evening at MK and got to see Wishes. And I'm sure being Southern you would love Homecoming. It is awesome!

We were lucky! We have since wished we had also made time for Ellen's Energy Adventure. We had hoped to ride it, but just ran out of time.

Our last full day was relaxing but still full of wonderful Disney things.

I hope you can fit Homecoming in to one of your trips. I'm excited to see Happily Ever After as a friend that I work with at my volunteer job has already seen it and she loved Wishes as much as I did. She loved HEA just as much. When this TR is done, I'll probably start the PTR a few days later.

We were smart and kept taking time for short refreshing breaks. You've got to make room for Homecoming since you love good southern cooking. It was neat to bond with folks while waiting for the fireworks to start.

I've had the same idea that we need a trip where we can just focus on restaurants. There are still several news ones to still open in Disney Springs and the parks.

I truly hope you all enjoy Homecoming as much as I did. The fried chicken is awesome there. You are welcome. I appreciate all of you all reading along.

NEXT: Farewell to Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge Day 11 Part 1 Sunday May 7
We had decided earlier in the week that we neither one wanted to eat so badly at The Boathouse that we’d sacrifice sleep and relaxation for it. We knew it might be a hassle to finish up packing, to get the bags checked, and then to take a bus to Disney Springs all before 11:00 AM. The decision was made to cancel this ADR, and just see what we’d like to do when Sunday morning arrived. We had looked at making some FP+ at Animal Kingdom last night before bed. But nothing worked for us before our Disney Magical Express pick up time at Jambo House.
We got up earlier than we expected that we would, but then we’re usually excited about heading back home, so getting up the last day isn’t too hard. We got ready and had everything packed up shortly after 10:00. We rolled the bags to the elevator and then down to airline check-in. With the big suitcases now on their way to the airport, we took the carry-on bags to Bell Services for storage while we took off on our final adventures. Even without FP+ we decided that due to its proximity to the lodge that Animal Kingdom was where we wanted to go. Less travel time meant more time to enjoy the park.
We didn’t wait long at the bus stop and then a few minutes later we were disembarking at Animal Kingdom. Before entering the ticket scanners, we stopped off for PhotoPass photos as the photographer wasn’t very busy. And these photos turned out to be some of my favorites of the trip.
As we entered the park, we honestly had no plans whatsoever – just wander and enjoy our final park hours. As we descended the hill toward the Tree of Life, I remembered that I hadn’t stopped yet to check out the ring-tailed lemurs. At the Tree of Life, we walked over to the right, and curled up in a little ball was one of the lemurs. He is so cute while sleeping.
While watching the lemurs, we decided next to meander around the Tree of Life. We hadn’t made time to do this yet. It is something we truly enjoy, but sometimes we get busy going from one FastPass to another and forget to take that leisurely stroll. The next series of photos are from this meandering around the Tree of Life.
Great photos in the AK and especially love the photos of the lemurs! I can't believe this trip is coming to an end as it seems you just began this TR!
