An Animal Kingdom State of Being with Cam and Fam COMPLETED 9/18 - Page 62 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

All caught up! Sorry about Luke's toe and the hassles checking into AKL. Glad you finally got settled. I never noticed the "giant Jack" before either - will be looking for it next time! Can't wait to do the "scenic route" at HM. Love the poncho Mickey antenae topper.
Just got all caught up again!!
I enjoy looking at all your pictures and reading about ya'lls adventures!
I Ye Olde Christmas and Days of Christmas at DTD. But I'm the type of shopper if I know there are similiar shops, I will go to both just to get the best price. Although Disney's prices usually run same anywhere you go!!
I can't wait to try the new Winne the Pooh & Haunted Mansion cue. They both look like so much fun!!
Can't wait for more!!
Those are two of mine and Stefanie's favorite shops at WDW.

Luke got tickled at me when we were trying to decide what my next vehicle would be. Anything with out an antenna was immediately off my list.

Our cars are going to be looking quite similar! I have the Disney family, monorail sticker, and monorail antenna topper on mine! The kids (and okay, me too) always get so excited when we find another Disney family car!
Looking forward to your next update!
Stefanie and I are the same way when we see another car with a Disney antenna or vinyls. We always wave as they are Disney folk!

Don't you love the monorail sticker - I have it on my back window with my Disney people!!
I'm so sorry about Luke's fall - I hope his foot is doing much better now!
Luke still needs to put my Disney family and his monorail vinyl on our cars.

I could easily have spent an hour there interacting with it if Doug and the kids would have let me. I found it rather sad that so many parents wouldn't allow their children to play at the Winnie the Pooh area. Devin and I had an absolute blast jumping, pulling, and spinning things there. We did get some funny looks too, like "why aren't they stampeding the line like the rest of us?"
Phooey! I missed the book encased in glass, but I was following Stefanie and photographing her playing with stuff. I'll have to look around more on our next visist.

The HM queue was very fun and I felt no need to rush ahead to get on the ride. Hope you enjoy it, too!

Very cool small world moment with Stefanie's former bus driver. Last August, I had a small world moment. I was at the post-ride area of Spaceship Earth when I saw a young man with an I (heart) CT shirt on. I went over to comment on his shirt, and it turned out that he was a former student of mine! He was 3 and 4 when he was my student, and he is now in his teens. He didn't remember me, but his Dad did. It was a great moment.
That is a such a neat small world moment!

Sorry to hear about Luke's feet bothering him, but he's doing better than I would It is great to sit back and take a closer look at the park and not be so "commando" all the time...That is my plan for our trip in September, hopefully I will be able to follow through
Can't wait to read more...I have to find time to see HP Part 2...we just did a movie marathon leading up to the final one but I haven't sat down to watch Part 1...we've had it since it came out but on Blu Ray but I refused to watch it cause everyone said the ending(or rather where it left off) wasn't a great spot for it. Since you want it to keep playing
We're actually getting into a no commando mode of touring the World. Of course, we are getting older so that may be expected. I think I'm going to watch the HP movies in order over the next few weeks of summer to reabsorb the whole adventure.

There will be a picture with them later, but it had stuff in it I hadn't mentioned yet.

Glad Luke could rest up his feet. Sometimes it is nice to just sit and people watch with a nice cool beverage!
I have the carriage and have never put it on the antenna because I was afraid the wheels were too fragile. So glad now I didn't!

Stefanie was confused at first but then when she remembered the lady, she got to be her very chatty self.

I'd love a Mickey Star Wars vinyl!

Sorry Luke's foot was still bothering him, but y'all got some great parade pics! I always struggle with that.
I am looking forward to visiting the new HM queue in December. It is DH's favorite ride, so it may be difficult to keep him from charging straight to the direct route, but I think the whole family will enjoy it.
I love the Mickey rain poncho antenna ball. I had a golden ears Mickey on my car for several years that I bought during the Happiest Year on Earth Celebration. But it finally wore out, and now I've got just a plain Mickey. I'm definitely looking for one of those cuties on our next trip. You are a shopper extraordinaire!
I have two of the golden ear Mickey's because the gold got very ugly on the one I put on the antenna. I had been afraid of that so I just went ahead and got two of them.

And you reminded me...I still have to put "My other car is a monorail" on my car (and i got it back in December! Well I still need to get my car washed!)
We still need to put ours on, too!

Pretty neat to run into someone from your hometown!
I have since seen a van in our town with the WDW family vinyls. Love it!

Luke's toe was giving him some trouble yesterday, but most days it's fine now.

Cam, the pics came out great.. Love watching Stephanie enjoying the new HM queue. I think my DGD is going to really enjoy it too.. Poor Luke with his toe, it had to have been miserable at times. Sometimes it is a small world, I have seen people on vacation that I know quite a few times. Great update !!!!!!
Great update, pictures, & purchases!!! How to run into people you know!!! I noticed those rockers while we there in Feb......perfect spot to take a break!
I do so the Mickey and poncho antenna topper. I might have to forward that one to my sister. She collects them and decorates her office at work with them. I don't know if she has that one or not.
Can't wait to check out the HM line. Jack promised me he would do HM with me next month, but he won't do Pirates. Oh well. He'll enjoy the line--hopefully as much as Stefanie did.
I love the family vinyls too! My children are 20 and 25, but they'll always be child sized on my window. Great idea from Belle0824 to hang from the mirror. My car doesn't have an antenna.

I had wondered what she would think of the new queue as Luke and I were excited to try it out, so it was neat that she got into playing with everything.

I've thought about putting the Mickey with the poncho on for rainy days!

Before we get started with the rest of June 6, I realized when Ann asked a question about the Captain that some of my photos from the HM interactive queue had not loaded up to Photobucket. I told you all I had problems with it. So I’ll add these in now and then resume my story.
My favorite part of the new queue was the musical instruments.
After our little shopping spree, we next moved out of the park and up to the resort monorail for a short trip to the Contemporary for dinner at Chef Mickey’s. Once there we stopped for a quick restroom break and then checked in at 5:15.
Luke took a few shots of the sign before we entered.
We had our prerequisite family photo with Mickey and the plate. With our pager in hand we took a seat on a cushy bench to wait our turn, and by 5:30 we were seated at a table. We waited to visit the buffet as Pluto and Goofy were nearly to our table.
Pluto:
Every character gets a kiss!
Goofy:
And each character gets many hugs!
Once we’d had time to hug and love on the boys, Stefanie and I went to the buffet where she got Mary Poppins Chicken Nuggets and Pluto’s Secret Recipe Chicken plus corn, mashed potatoes, and a roll. I selected and thoroughly enjoyed the ham, green beans, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, and pasta salad. For dessert, I had Minnie’s Cheesecake and a Key Lime Tart. In time Donald and Mickey came by.
Donald:
Mickey:
I always have to get in a picture with my favorite mouse.
We were beginning to wonder about Minnie when she finally appeared.
We stayed long enough that some of the characters made it back to our table.
As you can clearly see from all the pictures, each of the characters were very precious with Stefanie, making the tab worth it to see our girl smile. A note on our server Todd: Good but not stellar again. In fact we were feeling like the wait staff just wasn’t as attentive or into their jobs as we have witnessed on previous trips.
After dinner we stopped at BCG where Luke found a t-shirt and I got a white watch in a Sorcerer Mickey tin. Stefanie loves the Fantasia shop as she always finds a pin or two she loves here, so that was our next stop. We got very lucky here and got the DVC Exclusive pin, the AP Exclusive pin, the Father’s Day 2011 pin, the 2011 pin with Mickey, and the Poncho Vinlymation 3D pin.
Once our purchases were made, Luke needed to get back to the resort to rest and prepare for our earliest morning yet: The Matthews Safari (that’s exactly how it was written on the envelope left at our room earlier in the day ). I had been texting back and forth with Ann (Luvsun) all day, hoping to meet up. Unfortunately, we were unable to return to MK to watch MSEP and Wishes with Ann and Carly. But Luke couldn’t have done another thing at this point.
We were back at AKL Jambo House at 8:30, stopping at the lounge for wine for Luke and me and a Pibb for Stefanie.
A few room pictures:
In the room I downloaded the day’s pictures, got clothes ready for tomorrow, and then collapsed in be by 9:50, one of our earliest evenings ever at WDW.
All caught up now, great updates! Loved your dinner at Chef Mickey's. We were there in December with kids/grandkids and I was a bit disturbed with the service and the character interaction. Way too crowded and hurried! However, we are going back in November with DH's sister and her family (including two teens) as I know it has been a favorite with them. Hope this disturbing trend for poor service comes to an end soon!
GREAT pics! I'm so excited to see the ones of HM - we didn't do this ride last time b/c the boys were too nervous. I Chef Mickey's! (We'll be skipping this one this trip. You just can't beat the character interaction here...)
(Great score on the rocking chair for Luke. Drinking a cold Coke in a rocking chair in the Magic Kingdom - very cool.)
