As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I love the look of the bungalows but I'm with everyone else on the plunge pool. My very first trip to WDW was in 1994 and we stayed at the Poly. I remember going in the lake then and the area was roped off to show how far you could go.
Great updates Cheryl! Your lunch at Kona looked so yummy. I love it there! The drink you had is one of my favorites. Last summer we rented the same type of boat you did and toured the lake. It was so relaxing. We loved being on the water so much that a couple of days later we rented the smaller 2 person boats and zipped all around Bay Lake checking everything out. That was when I discovered that there is an old Disney water park I think it was called River Country and an old petting zoo in the center Island. They were so neat to see, but it was very odd to see "ghost town" parks at Disney.

Getting caught up on this TR and I had to comment on how beautiful the sushi plates looked at Kona. I've always loved Kona and I still think it's always worth a visit. I'm not a dessert gal but that pineapple cake has peaked a little intrest with me
Your pics of the new lobby look amazing! I can't wait to see in person. I'll miss the old lobby but this looks fresh and pretty. I wonder though how they will do the Christmas decorations now?? I always thought they lacked in that dept. But now with more space, I'm hoping they do something a little more exciting.
Ok, now the big mystery we need answered is what is the water in the plunge pool? I thought from the pictures it just looked like a hole in the deck with a ladder down into it. It didn't look like there was anything deep enough to constitute a plunge. I'm willing to stay in one, you know, for research, if folks would like to contribute to the points collection?
I haven't even checked what the prices are for the Poly DVC bungalows, but I'm sure they're quite high to say the least! Being out on the water, isolated and with great views...I'm not surprised. Sorry, you feel you're priced out of this, but perhaps, you could just do a night or two here and at another resort at somewhat less of a price and do it on somewhat of a cost average basis to perhaps make it worth a try? I've done this in the past with deluxe/mod split stays! But then again I haven't checked at what the prices are for these at the Poly and just making a guess to average things out for a stay! I hope it's not completely ridiculous as with some of the DCL cruises are getting now!

Great pictures of the bungalows from the boats! Somewhere I read something about snakes in the plunge pools, and I would NEVER be able to get that thought out of my mind!
I think that was in the DVC forum, as I remember reading that as well..

If I remember right (and I am doing this from memory), I believe the starting points are something like 120 per night!

Ok, I have got time this morning for an update, so here goes:
Sunday 22 February – part six: fireworks, birds and tennis shoes!
We were going to head over to the wedding pavilion next, but we were warned off by another lake patrol, who told us to keep away from the barge there. It looked as if it was loaded with fireworks, and we were right it was.
Instead, we sailed past the Villas at the Grand Floridian…
… and then the Grand Floridian itself.
We carried on…
… and eventually came to Narcoosee’s and the marina, where all the really nice boats are located.
Then we made our way back across the Seven Seas Lagoon, seeing lots more cool sights on the way…
We came across this guy, who was minding his own business, until two of the Sea Raycers headed for him – poor thing!
We headed back into Bay Lake and past the Wilderness Lodge…
We went past Discovery Island…
… and River Country…
Then we found the trainer (tennis shoe) tree. We were told about this on a Wishes cruise we once took, and I can’t remember how this started, but it ended up becoming a tradition for people to see if they could get their trainers on the tree… and look how many there now are!
By the way, if anyone knows the story, please feel free to chip in here!
Your cruise around the lake seemed very relaxing. I truly enjoy seeing the shoreline from a different angle. We enjoy boating on the Hudson River, and I have to say, you seem to have encountered more patrol boats in an hour than we do in a month. It also made me wonder if people try and sneak onto Discovery Island causing Disney to have quite a few patrol boats.
Skipping back to your race photos, you captured my friend in one photo. She was thrilled when I sent her the link to your TR.
