As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: 2 Girls + 10 Days = Too Much Fun (6/12-6/22) Day 10 now up
Thanks for another update. I have a question how is Lucy going to keep this a secret trip with all the WDW you will have at home, when her family comes for a visit? Will your kids spill the beans and say mom got this when she went to WDW with your mom?

Re: 2 Girls + 10 Days = Too Much Fun (6/12-6/22) Day 10 now up
I just wanted to say "Thanks!" for all the nice responses. It is good to know someone is actually reading this report.
I love to read TRs, and will now make sure I respond to each one. I didn't realize, until starting mine, just how much time and effort goes into one of these! Don't get me wrong, I am finding this great fun to write, it's just taking much longer than I expected. (Of course, I do tend to ramble... )
Tikibird, Kimdisneynut, Tinkerbelly, DrDolphin, PS I Luv WDW, Mel & Richard, MrsM, and Llaffinplace - thanks so much for your positive feedback! I have enjoyed reading several of your reports as well. (I wouldn't know what to eat if it weren't for Larry! )
I hope to get my next post up tonight, but I am starting a new class (lots of homework) and will be traveling to Atlanta this weekend, so time is rather tight this week. Day 7 was terrific though, so I really want to get it done.
Again, I just wanted to say thank you for reading!
Stay tuned...

Kim - good question! Actually, we discussed all that. Lucy and her DH are at our house quite frequently so this was definitely a concern.
The plan - tell him (if he even notices and/or asks)we went to a Disney outlet !! Chances are that he won't even notice, but we are prepared.

Re: 2 Girls + 10 Days = Too Much Fun (6/12-6/22) Day 10 now up
Day 7 – Just how many Rum-runners does it take to get Kris and Lucy into trouble?
I’m going to get this day posted, and I’ll post my Disney highlights a little later.
Thursday morning dawned beautiful and sunny! The rain had finally moved out – at least for a while…Lucy and I passed on the walk with the dogs this morning, as we’d managed to cover several miles at Disney!! Instead, we decided to hit the beach bright and early (well, around 9:30) to take advantage of the bright sun.
Bikinis, blankets, suntan oil/lotion, trashy beach novels, and cooler with our bottled water – we’re ready to go!! Today our plan was to go a little further north on Cocoa Beach and try that area out. There was a parking garage nearby that allowed us to park the car in the shade, thereby preventing a roasting interior when we decided to leave. The area we chose is right behind Ron Jon’s and the Cocoa Beach Surf Company.
Because it was relatively early when we arrived, the beach was not at all crowded! There were a few folks there – 3 guys with their Styrofoam cooler, and a couple of families, and of course, surfers. We chose our spot, threw down the blanket, lathered on the suntan oil and began to soak up the sun!
About half an hour later, the 3 guys with their Styrofoam cooler moved to within 10 feet of our blanket!! What’s up with that?!? The beach is practically empty – there’s plenty of room. Well, let me just tell you – these guys were your basic “beach bums.” They were each probably in their late 40s – early 50s, and basically they lived on/around the beach. They didn’t talk to us – but they certainly made sure we could hear their conversation! Lucy and I were both lying on our stomachs and facing each other as we “listened” to their conversation.
First they began talking about how Park/Beach Security had no jurisdiction over them when they were actually on the beach – however, they could get in trouble once they hit the walkway and/or streets. Then it was one story after another about either an accident they’d been in where their eyeball had been left hanging out of its socket and miraculously repaired by the ER doc, or about how this guy knew some guy in St. Augustine that would put him up for nothing for as long as he’d like, all their boating and motorcycle adventures, etc. Then they started telling each other jokes – pathetic jokes!! Not even funny!
After a while, they must have been running low on their beer supply and they were going to send one of the guys to get more. As the beer run guy got ready to go (we decided he was a “bum in training”), the other two told him all about how and where to find free ice (ice machine at the Comfort Inn – and exactly where it was located, yada, yada, yada.). The other two guys continued their conversation, this time talking about how to make “roses” out of a single palm frond. Apparently they do this and then sell them to folks on the beach – for beer money! And, also apparent, this is what the Park/Beach Security people were after them for.
Finally, “beer run boy” gets back with the goods, and it looks they are going to be there for quite a while. Lucy and I just rolled our eyes at each other, and were silently wondering if maybe we should relocate. We talked very quietly among ourselves and decided we would leave shortly. We sat up to have a smoke, and lo and behold, “beer run boy” walks over to ask if he can “buy” a cigarette from us! I gave him one of mine, and now the other two headed over. Yikes!! (Fortunately, there were more people on the beach by this time, so we weren’t really afraid – but now that they’d “made contact” with us,we were really ready to get out of there!)
One of the guys, who introduced himself as “Rooster,” handed Lucy and I each one of their famed “roses.” They did not ask us for money! (BTW - It’s really cool how they make them – they are quite pretty! I still have mine – it’s sitting on my desk at work) After the roses and the borrowed smoke, and after offering us each a beer (we declined, of course!) they finally returned to their area. Lucy and I waited about 10 minutes and then packed up our stuff and got the h*** out of there!
As we crossed over the walkway back to the road, I heard a woman’s voice calling, “Ma’am, ma’am!!” Lucy and I stopped and turned around to find a Beach/Park Security officer coming toward us! Uh, oh!! “Did we do something wrong?” I asked. “No, not at all,” she assured us. Turns out, they were working an undercover operation on these three guys and wanted to know if they had harassed us in any way, or tried to sell us anything. We told her that no, they hadn’t tried to sell us anything, nor had they harassed us, but they did make us uncomfortable. She sent us on our way with a thank you and a warning to be careful of them. Holy Cow!! Such adventure first thing in the am!! We’d better have a drink!!
We walked back to our car, looking over our shoulders constantly in case one of the “beach guys” were following us, and loaded up the car (nice and cool thanks to the shaded parking) and headed south to Coconuts on the Beach!
We arrived at Coconuts around noonish and grabbed a table out on the deck. A gorgeous day – although there were clouds to the west, the ocean breeze usually keeps them at bay. We decided to try one of their Rum-runners (since we’d enjoyed them so much at Disney) and we ordered a chicken ceasar wrap to share.
The drinks were delicious! We ordered a second round when our food came out! The wrap was also very yummy!! We ate our lunch, enjoyed our cocktails, and soaked up the sun! What a great afternoon! Our waitress came back and asked if we’d like another round – Lucy says “sure!” Now, we’re having our 3rd rum-runner! (BTW – I looked up rum-runner recipes when we returned to STL and boy, is there a lot of alcohol in them. Bacardi Black Label rum, Bacardi 151 rum, blackberry brandy, and crème de bananae, along with a bit of grenadine and lime juice! )
The afternoon was turning out be just perfect! Lucy got up to use the restroom, and our waitress came back and asked if we were ready for another one! “Absolutely!” I said. Oh, man – number 4!! Lucy came back and asked where this last one came from – I told her I’d ordered them! We didn’t have anywhere to be, so we continued to soak up the rays until the ocean breeze could no longer keep the rain away! Ok, so we just picked up our drinks and moved under the overhang until it passed.
Up next – the saga continues…

Thanks, TINKN! Yes, we were very lucky! We may not ever have another opportunity like this again, so we took total advantage of it! It was great! We were kind of like 2 middle-aged (not really - we're only in our mid-30s) women on "Spring Break"! It was great fun!

Thanks for posting more of the report! I loved reading about your mother's expensive sauerkraut! I can't believe you girls were able to get up and function after your night at PI.
Can't wait to read about Day 7 when you get a chance!

Re: 2 Girls + 10 Days = Too Much Fun (6/12-6/22) Day 10 now up
Day 7 – The saga continues…
Dear readers,
When last I left you, Lucy and I were indulging in an afternoon of cocktails at the beach…
The rain leaves us temporarily, and the sun comes out to shine once again. We pick up our belongings and move back out to a table in the sun. Our waitress comes by shortly to clear up our tab – her shift is over. She leaves our check with us: $58!! Holy Cow!! $8 for the chicken wrap, and the balance is our cocktails! Yikes – this is turning out to be quite an expensive afternoon…and it ain’t over yet!
We settle our bill, adding a nice tip for our friendly server, and take our time finishing our drinks. Now, both Lucy and I are quite friendly by nature – we love to meet and talk to new people, so that is precisely what we begin to do. We strike up a conversation with the family sitting at a table nearby. They have two absolutely adorable children with them. The kids are going up onto the stage and pretending to be famous performers. They are singing and dancing and just cracking us up. Lucy and I both applaud them, and the little girl (she must have been about 4 years old) tells us she’s going to grow up to be a “rock star!” She even has a glitter design on her t-shirt! She is SO cute!! Lucy and I assure her that we’re convinced she’ll make a terrific rock star! Mom and Dad are just kind of rolling their eyes and hoping she grows out of this stage quickly – they don’t really want a little Britney Spears on their hands.
After this family leaves, we begin chatting with several other people around us, and pretty soon we have a whole “gathering” at several tables. Our group includes a few locals who are just “hanging out,” a couple who stopped by for lunch, and two German tourists who are just as fair-skinned as they can be.
A couple more rounds of cocktails are ordered and consumed. Lucy and I are having an especially fun time talking with the German tourists. They speak English extremely well – they have to because their jobs require them to deal with people in the US on a daily basis. They find some of our expressions and colloquialisms hard to understand, so we of course are happy to enlighten them. In turn, they try to teach us a couple of “bad” words or expressions in German, at which we fail miserably. (I’ve always wanted to know a bad word or two in a foreign language – they don’t teach you those in French class in high school! ) Many laughs are had as Lucy and I try our hands at German cursing!! I wish I had written them down at the time so I could attempt them with a clearer mind. We also make sure to warn them about the strong Florida sun – it will burn their fair skin in no time!
Afternoon turns into evening, and our party is still going strong - there must be about a dozen of us by now, even the servers stop by to chat and laugh with us. We are just having a great time visiting with all these folks, when who should walk up but Cindy and Don, my parents’ neighbors!! “You guys are in BIG trouble!” Cindy tells us. She proceeds to explain that my mom has become worried because she hasn’t heard from us all day and is now convinced that we’ve been chopped up into tiny pieces and buried on the beach by some deranged person!! She’s even sent my dad out looking for us! Uh oh!! I quickly run out to my car to grab my cell phone to call and assure them that we are just fine – and to apologize for being irresponsible by not calling! (I feel like I’m 16 years old again coming in past curfew!) When I get to the car, I see the clock on the dashboard and it tells me it’s 8:17 pm – Yikes!! I had no idea it was that late!! Mom is relieved to hear from me and embarrassed that she got so worried. I apologize profusely for not calling sooner and assure her that we are quite well and will be home within a couple of hours. All is well, although I can’t shake the guilt.
I head back to our tables and Cindy and Don tell us that they have just come from getting matching tattoos for Don’s birthday! (I told you earlier about how into each other they are – it is almost too much!) And, they tell us, they have invited my parents over to their house this evening to celebrate! Cindy tells us not to worry, they’ll entertain my mom and dad and give them good wine to drink. We thank them and they head home for the birthday party.
After this, our good mood is a bit dampened. We decide to switch to sodas for a while and get a bite to eat. We stay and visit with our new friends for a while, but finally decide we’d better head home to face the music. (Did I tell you I ‘m feeling like a bad teenager? ) We say goodbye to our new friends and head home at about 10:00.
When we arrive at Mom and Dad’s they are nowhere to be found. They must still be at Cindy and Don’s, so we head up there. Apparently a great time is being had by all there until the “bad” girls arrive! Man, can we kill a party! We chat with everyone for a while, but the party breaks up about 20 minutes after we arrive. The four of us walk home together, and I apologize again. Mom tells me not to worry about it – I’m 36 years old and she knows I’m able to take care of myself, but it’s just the mom in her that still sees me as a “kid.” (My mom’s title is: Queen of the Guilt Trips – although I really did deserve this one!)
Anyway, back to the house we go, and very shortly thereafter are tucked snugly in our beds. I fall into a sound sleep for a couple of hours, but wake up around 1:00 am with my stomach just killing me. I think it’s a combination of way too much rum and way too much guilt – bad combination! I can’t seem to fall back asleep, so I stay up most of the night watching TV. Fortunately, Lucy doesn’t seem to be suffering from the same affliction and gets herself a good night’s rest.
