Me, Muffin and the Oasis of the Seas!!-TR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Giovanni's Table is a beautiful restaurant in Central Park on Deck 8. We arrived at our 6 PM dinner plenty hungry and we sure wouldn't be disappointed!! This was a first for us as well but it will not be the last time we eat here!!
You can also sit outside in Central Park
This is a picture I took the first day on board when we were touring and it wound up being exactly where we sat!!
Muffin was trying to figure out the lighting for the camera
I think this may be the goofiest selfie we have ever taken!
We were seated at a lovely table and presented with warm bread and this delicious pesto olive oil:
Then we ordered an antipasti platter to share:
This was so good it could have been a meal by itself!!
Muffin ordered grilled octopus which he said was lovely:
I ordered filet with mushroom risotto and asparagus:
It was delicious!!
We also split a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. We were pretty full after dinner but our waiter insisted that we try the tiramisu. That, of course, meant me because Muffin would have died if he touched it!!
I only ate a tiny bit of it but it sure was good!!:
After our delicious dinner, we strolled around the Royal Promenade for a bit and looked in the shops. I wound up buying this beautiful Kate Spade purse that I would never buy without winning all of that money last night!
We went to the theater for a variety type show that was very good. The performer is called El Gaucho and that guy is so talented!! He can sing, dance, play the guitar and do magic!! He is also unbelievable with bolos!! It was a really fun way to end the evening. We finished up tonight by going to the Schooner bar for some trivia and a nightcap.

Looks like a great meal. I think the ship casinos very possible have a higher payout than Vegas and such. Probably most of the winnings come right back home to them---and then some.
What a great meal you had and everything looked so good at Giovanni's. Just another reason for me to take a RCCL adventure eventually! That dipping oil with the pesto and Parmesan looks to die for as I'd be all over it and would embarrass everyone at the table by licking every drop off the plate! Your other choices looked good and especially Muffin's grilled octopus. I've had this a few times and can be quite good. The best I had was at Tiffin's and an app there and a must! Nice end to the evening at the bar. Funny selfie of the two of you before dinner.

Dinner looked delicious- I’d have loved the octopus!
It's a crocodile!! The purse is so fun and dinner was delicious!!

It was an awesome meal!! Well, they took back some of mine, but not all of it!!
I usually am not one for fancy purses, but I really like the look of the Kate Spade one. Your entree looked very fancy and delicious.
Thanks, Julia!! I love fancy purses but I normally get them at the outlets. This was a real treat!! Our food was wonderful!!

The first time we came to Jamaica, we were not impressed at all. Since then, they have really built this island up and it has become a much more fun port!! We had another beautiful day today and it was perfect to go to Margaritaville and hang out.
We got up this morning, took our walk on the jogging track and went up to the Windjammer for breakfast. Then we watched the ship dock.
We took our time getting ready and made our way over to Margaritaville at around 11:30.
Where you first walk into the port
There are lots of little kiosks and shops selling Jamaican wares:
As you can see, it was a beautiful day and we browsed around for a bit:
This guy was so cute and he was playing Elvis songs
This was the same pirate I got my picture taken with the last time we were here!
Muffin loves Margaritaville!!
The first thing we did was snag two lounge chairs by the pool. It was already pretty crowded there, so we had to pay an employee 5 bucks each to find us a spot. Then we hopped in the pool and went to the swim up bar for a beverage. I got a margarita and Muffin got a coke. Then I saw lots of people with these tacky but cool souvenir drink holders and I simply had to have one!! This time I got a banana strawberry rum drink that was refreshing and delicious!! Here is my souvenir cup:
the swim up bar
The beautiful Oasis from the pool area
The Margaritaville version of Dunn's River Falls
We swam for a good while and relaxed for a good while and then went into the restaurant for lunch.
As you can see, the restaurant was pretty crowded
We wound up sitting net to a lovely employee from the Disney Fantasy who was about 100 pounds soaking wet and managed to put away the largest cheeseburger I have ever seen!! I asked her if they fed her on the ship! She chatted with us for a bit and told us that she played Moana and we could totally see that.
Muffin ordered a plain burger and I got Lava Lava Shrimp. Muffin ordered a Red Stripe and I still had my delicious drink from the pool. We very much enjoyed our lunch and our time here!!
Lava Lava Shrimp
Plain ole burger
We headed back to the ship, checking out the souvenir shops on the way but we really didn't see anything we liked here. We snapped a few photos on the walk back:
Once on board, we took showers and then just relaxed for a while before dinner.
I will tell you all about our delicious dinner at Chops Grille and the wonderful Aqua Show next!!
