Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I love breakfast at Hollywood and Vine although the atmosphere is dreadful to me

The waitress apologized but the woman wouldn't accept it and just caused a scene and even with the manager who came over. Her husband said to me that this is common for her, but he didn't say much to her during the ordeal. She treated the waitress and manager like garbage! Did not make my meal enjoyable in any way while having to experience this.
It's too bad that it wasn't actually the restaurant that would cause you not to go back, but another diner. Boatwright's at POR is the only restaurant that my older DD insisted we go back to on our upcoming trip, because she had her best meal there 5 years ago. We are not staying at POR this time, but we made an ADR on our leisure/non-park day, just for her. It would be awful to have an experience that you did, though. It would take exceptional food and service to overcome it and return, but I supposed that is what is driving my DD to go back, the exceptional meal she had.

I'd probably return there, even though I haven't dined there since then, even with two more stays there. It wasn't the restaurant's fault but the poor and inexcusable behavior of a diner. I don't think I've ever witnessed a patron act this way before in all my years eating out!

They tried to rectify the situation with the woman, but she wanted no part of it. Perhaps, she was just looking for something in return from Disney (like a free meal or stay) and I'm sure she pursued it further!

Chiming in: My must avoid is Restaurantosaurus in AK. My worst ever meal was the Mac-n-Cheese hot dog there. I couldn't finish it, it was that terrible, and I'm the least picky person that I know.

Runner up: Be Our Guest - Lunch. I had lunch twice there and both times I was super un-impressed with the theme park "French" food. When the best thing on the menu in hundreds of reviews is the Grey Stuff cupcake, you know it's bad.

I love seeing everyone's differences (One person's blah is another person's amazing). I am seeing a recurring theme of places I haven't been: 50's Prime Time Café and Sci-Fi Dine In. Thanks for the head's up!

You're right, one person's blah can be another's amazing. With that, I'll add that I enjoy both 50's PT and Sci Fi. In fact, 50's PT is one of my DS(14)'s favorite places. We've had amazing experiences there more than once. It might not be for everyone, but it's for us!

Much of this is what you want out of a meal. For example, as much as people rave about Victoria and Albert's, we wouldn't even consider it. Too much food (much of which doesn't appeal) and too much fuss for us. We don't care about "amazing" food. Good food is good enough. We enjoy good theming and a fun atmosphere and value that much more than a quiet, elegant dining experience. To each their own.

You forget though that "reviews" are very subjective. We've had several lunches at BoG which we've always enjoyed - and not one included the grey stuff cupcake. I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. It looks totally unappealing and others have said it's basically cookies and cream which I don't like so for me at least, that's not even close to the best thing on the menu - it's the worst - so I really have to disagree that BoG is "bad."

I have two:

Cosmic Rays - I think there is much better food in MK

Akershus - My daughter was in the restroom when Snow White came to the table, when she got out we asked if she could come back to our table and were told they would get her back to us. They didn't . Unfortunate. The food was underwhelming as well, so that's ok, now we know.

Mama Melrose's was the worst for us. Food was bad, service was bad and wait staff was rude. It was our first trip and we haven't been back since.

I always feel that restaurants deserve a second (or even third) chance (unless you have an extremely bad experience). It just may be that the particular day you visited was an "off day" or something. However, if you try something three times and was not happy with it, then yes, it's three strikes, you're out.

To be honest, what I avoid is the Food and Wine festival. We did go once, about 12 years ago and I was unimpressed. Food seemed rather bland to me (maybe it's gotten more successfully authentic since?), and personally I just prefer sitting and eating comfortably, rather than wandering around with food in hand -- plus, if something *is* tasty, I want a ton of it, not just one or two bites!

Very interesting topic...

LOL ~ I've always wanted to try the Food and Wine festival for the very reason that I would be able to do a bite or two of a variety of items. I'm not a big eater, and I would love to try lots of different things, which is the appeal of the Food and Wine festival for me. If I ate a ton of something I really liked, I wouldn't have any room to eat anything else!

WDW is definitely different strokes for different folks!
