Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I was starting to wonder if they were ever going to come out. Carthay Circle is the meal I'm most looking forward to, which is why I put it on the last night, so I hope we enjoy it too.

Today's Update: Disneyland Touring Plan Day 1

I like to make very detailed plans for touring because it really helps keep the kids from having meltdowns. We also will be utilizing the DAS for the kids. We also had a incident last Sunday that is going to affect some of our plans. Pat was working on the alpaca shelters and fell off a ladder. Thankfully, he has no broken bones, and even though he landed on his back/shoulder his neck and spine were not hurt. However, he did hit his head and suffered a significant concussion and was off work this whole week and his memory has been very messed up, although it seems to be much better today. The doctor said he is not suppose to do anything that could potentially cause another concussion in the next 6 months. This includes any rides that would cause the head to shake significantly. So, he will not be riding most of the thrill rides. But I have worked the touring plans to make sure he can still enjoy the trip.

At first I debated having us split up and I would take one kid on a thrill ride and he could take the other on something else and then switch kids. But with our limited time in the parks, this did not seem to be a good option. Instead, I have found things that Pat would enjoy while we do things he is not able to.

To make our touring plans I use Touringplans.com. I have used them for several years and have found their times to be fairly accurate. I do use the personalized and have it optimize the plan and then I move things a little to suit our needs. I also add in things like picking up the DAS times. I did include all of our #1 attractions on the first day, that way if we get off schedule I can move attractions to Friday if needed, but if we stay on track we should have a free day on Friday.

Here is our plan for Monday November 17th at Disneyland:

1. Pat - Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Kids/Me - Get FP for Star Tours
2. Kids/Me - Ride Space Mountain
(Pat will meet us in Tomorrowland after he is done with step 1)
3. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
4. Captain EO
5. Star Tours (Pat thinks he will be okay doing this one, but we are going to decide at the time. If he is not feeling up to it he will get a snack while the kids and I ride)
6. Pick up a DAS time at the kiosk in Tomorrowland for either Mickey's House or Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin, which ever has the longer wait time.
7. Mickey's House or Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin (the one we do not have the DAS time for)
8. Use the DAS time for the other one.
9. it's a small world
10. Matterhorn (only the kids will ride this one, it's too rough for me)
11. We will stop on our way to lunch to get the DAS signed for Haunted Mansion
12. Lunch - Tentatively I want to eat at Jolly Holiday Bakery, but we will make the final choice at the time and visit a counter service restaurant.
13. Get FP for Indiana Jones
14. Haunted Mansion (using DAS time)
15. Pick up DAS time for either BTMRR if the wait is currently over 15-20 minutes, if not get DAS for Dumbo
16. Enchanted Tiki Room
17. Pirates of the Caribbean
18. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
19. Get DAS for Dumbo, if we got the BTMRR one in step 15
20. Indiana Jones (using FP)
21. Dumbo (using DAS)
22. Sleepting Beauty Castle Walkthrough

Touring plans shows us arriving at the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough at 3:48pm. Like I said I have found if we stay on track and don't have changes of schedule we tend to be really close to the times listed. If we start to get off track, I usually skip steps and move those items to our free day and pick up the schedule at the step for the current time.

We will probably stay in the park after our last step and hit the couple #1's not listed above which are the meet with Captain America and spending some time in Innoventions. The only other #1 not listed is Splash Mountain. I will only visit Splash if I can leave the park and change clothes. I am the person that always gets drenched on water rides. So, that will be on Friday. Since the park is only open from 10a-8p, we will probably not leave the park mid-day.

Our dinner is at Blue Bayou at 6:50p.

After dinner the park will probably be closed and we will make our way out and then either head back to the room to watch movies and relax or head to DTD for some entertainment or shopping if we are up to it.

You're a great organizer! I know it's because you have to be, but still, that's a great day 1 plan. Poor Pat! I guess all things considered he was lucky to not have been more hurt, but a severe concussion is a very bad injury. I hope he won't mind too much not doing the thrill rides, but luckily Disney is a place where there are always alternatives.

I am actually somewhat OCD and even if I didn't have to, I would still have detailed plans. I agree that Pat's injuries could have been much worse and we are so thankful that he will fully recover, but the concussion is a tough injury and it has made him feel very helpless, which is not something he likes. I think he will be okay about the thrill rides, especially since he knows I'm planning to make sure he can do things he enjoys during that time. I agree Disney is very enjoyable even without thrill rides.

He seems to be getting back to his normal self. He goes back to work tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. It was a scary event.

It was scary, talking to him on the hour long drive to the hospital was strange. He kept repeating the same stuff over and over. But he seems to be doing so much better the last two days.

When I started collecting the points I thought there was no way to ever get that many. When I hit 7,500 I thought "well, I'm half-way there". Then when I hit 10,000, it got very real that I could actually get enough.

I have no idea how I missed you starting this!!!
Everything seems to be shaping up! Glad the hours finally came out. That drove me crazy too when we were working our trip in July two summers ago.
Oh, In N Out Burger, how I love thee. Being originally from CA this is my favorite place and I HAD to take the girls there when we went and my oldest loved it too! Luckily they have put in a couple in TX around Dallas, so when we see friends we can make a pit stop. Not that we get down there too often, but more often the CA. Glad you will be able to visit one on your trip!!

I don't know how you missed it either, but I'm glad you found it! I don't know if the delayed hours is a laid back California thing or what but it does drive me batty.

I didn't have the luxury of experiencing In N Out Burger until 2008 on a trip with my mom. We were in California for 3 weeks and we went to one about 2 days in and then I went there about every other day, knowing I wouldn't be able to have it when we got home. I don't think there will only be one visit during our trip.

Sorry about Pat's accident - so glad that it was not worse - had to have been so scary for all of you!

I am nothing if not detailed and organized. Although I'm feeling a bit behind right now because I can't believe how close the trip is.

We are so thankful Pat's accident wasn't worse. It was really scary, and I have to admit it was a time that I didn't like living in the middle of no where. The hour drive to the hospital was tough.
