We Can Fly, We Can Fly, We Can Fly......We Flew Trip Report - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I agree that Abby's being separated and reunited was a positive experience. You may not want it to happen everyday but kids learn when they havea little stress in thier lives. It sounds like everyone did well and you all know that sha can handle a little more than you thought.
I love your hats-so smart of you to protect yourselves from the sun.
Checking in to your TR! I'm actually really glad that you don't sugar coat anything during your reporting; it helps others to see that we are all human and hiccups happen even during magical trips to Disney! Your day at Sea World was pretty eventful and I'm glad Abby was able to find a CM that was able to keep her calm. Looking forward to reading more!
I can relate to Abby wanting things warm to even cold. My DD has been that way since she was a baby. She didn't even like her bottle warmed. Everything has to be room temp to cold. She eats so many things cold out of the fridge, it's crazy!
Yay for Abby! It's always good to know and relieving too, to know that your child listened and absorbed what safety measures you've been teaching. Mitch sounded wonderful too.
I am unsure how I feel about SeaWorld in general as I have read far too many things about the animals, so I feel bad, but it looks cool. Ugh. It's just like the circus for me! Killer Whales, killing things for no apparent reason...doesn't bother me so much, only bc I know lots of things will kill for things other than just food or safety. Like territory or mating.
I take it you didn't get soaked bc you didn't mention it. Back to my reading!
I've probably already said it before, but we sound alike with our receipts/what we've spent ritual.
Every night, no matter the time. I go through all our receipts and track what we have spent in total, what we have spent from each budget (whether it be tips, snacks, or souvie for someone), and if we have the DDP I track that too. When we get our room charges I use my list to compare and if the numbers are off, then I start checking line by line. This also insures that each person in the family hasn't spent more than their allotted spending money...bc we use our KTTW card for everything.
Sorry the rest of the SW day didn't go as well as you hoped, but what a sprinkle of magic for getting in the quick line at that one ride. Glad you also enjoyed some time together in the "cool pool with the fountain" (you sound like me with "scary clown pool...resort".

Just catching up. I think the first day anticipation of a great start for your vacations is very high. The smallest thing that goes unplanned can stress someone out!!!
SW sounded like is was very fun. All your pictures are really great. I know you had to be relieved Abby was not scared when she was lost. We have to be thankful for experienced CMS. Glad you all had a great ending to a long hot day!!!!
I found your TR this morning, right before work..... But I came home and read it all one fell swoop! Woot! I loved your PTR and have been anxiously awaiting this follow-up.
And I'm sorry, but I am getting such a chuckle over all the "Lenny was grumpy" descriptions!!! I love the smiley that is blocking its ears and going "LA LA LA LA.....!". OMG too funny. But you are right, no trip is perfect and we all have our grumpy moments! Some more than others, is all.
Enjoyed the chapter(s) on Sea World. We've never been and it was nice to read about it in some detail.
Very cool pictures of the dolphins! What kind of camera? Mine doesn't take really good pictures through glass, but your camera took great pictures! I'm sorry the morning started out rough again. What is it with McD's and orders? They never get our order correct
Thanks. The camera is a Canon Sure Shot A560. It has an aquarium mode I use a lot for the pictures. I too don't know what it is with McDonalds but it wasn't the first (or last) time something like that happened this vacation.

Thanks. I didn't think to move away like Lenny did for the photos but then again, I also wanted to stay close to make sure she followed the directions she was given. We did see a lot but we didn't really stay anywhere for any length of time though.

Sounds like you had a good day at SW, and got quite a bit accomplished.
That's the sad part - about McDonalds - we were all in line so Lenny did order his own stuff but as I said, it still was my fault somehow. Oh well - I didn't lose sleep over it. We did do a bit at SW but it was a long day too (from about 9 am to 7 pm)

I am with you on the not going into the parks on arrival day, it is just too much to deal with that it stresses you out and you don't enjoy it as much. We are even thinking of not going into a park on the second day either on our next trip, we were forced to do it that way on our recent trip due to our son's ear infection and we actually found that we liked it.
Abby had gotten so tall, wow! It is amazing how much they grow up in such a short time. Sorry that Lenny was so cranky on your arrival day. I can not wait to read more.
No park on your second day as well? I'm not sure I could do that unless we had like half a water park day planned. At the beginning of the vacation I think it would drive me crazy to stay in the room. I totally get why you did it (not sure I could say I'd do the same thing ). As for Lenny, unfortunately this isn't the first trip he's been really cranky on the first day. Probably won't be the last if we ever make it back again.

It was busy, fun and hot (really hot) but we enjoyed it. As for the penguins, the only way I know of is through the ride - kind of like Wild Arctic but at least there you have the choice of the really long line (the "ride" portion) or the really short line (just the movie, without the simulator). I saw the penguin ride online and while I would have waited it for Abby, it's not worth any kind of wait IMO.

Thanks. I'm glad you like details and photos because there are a lot of them in my TR. The trip overall was good but you'll have to wait and read for yourself.

I am glad that you had an enjoyable day at SW. The pictures are terrific!!
Can't wait to hear more about your trip.
Thanks - I'm glad you're enjoying it. It'll be another day or two before I post more though.
Sounds like a good day at Sea World. You can't see the penguins unless you ride the ride?? That's terrible. I'd been wanting to go to SW mostly for the Antarctic exhibit, but if this is the case, I'll just stay at Disney!
Thanks Laurie. As I mentioned above, AFAIk that's the only way into the exhibit just like Wild Arctic. Until it's not so new, I would stay away for now and stay at Disney. I know last year when Turtle Trek opened, it had really long lines but when we went (as you'll see in my next update) we waited only 15 minutes or so.

Rain in Florida - BTDT, don't let it bother me. The heat was a bit much though, I have to admit. At least we know enough though to try and keep as hydrated as we could. Watching Tangled at the pool was enjoyable. The last time we attempted to watch a movie at the pool wasn't a very good experience (anyone remember that?) so it was really nice to actually be able to watch the movie and enjoy everything that was going on around us.

If it's something the kids would like, then definitely go for a day. Abby normally likes to take her time so that's why we spread it out over 2 days this time.

Good luck with Autumn. The way I can usually get Abby to try something is to ask her "would mommy let you do it if it was something that would hurt or harm you in any way?" When she answers no, she's somewhat willing to try whatever "it" is but she's not always convinced until after it's over. And truth be told, I think Abby had an issue with touching the fish, not the dolphins.

Okay, I have to backtrack and read your second day now! Keep 'em coming! I love all the detail you include in your reports. I haven't managed to keep up my pre-trip report, so I'm hoping maybe I can do an actual trip report once I get back. I'll have to read the tutorial about posting photos to the forum.
Thank you for the Welcome. Abby loves Disney - and you're right, she was determined to have a good time no matter what - but you'll read all about it in the coming days (and possibly weeks - depends upon how quick I can post). Good luck with your own TR and photos.

I know it's frustrating when things don't go exactly as planned. Again, sorry your second morning started off rough, but your day at Sea World sounded really nice! I haven't been in 13 years. I do want to take my girls one day. A relaxing evening to end a day is always good!!
Glad you joined in Elisa. To say the first day was frustrating is an accurate assessment. I tried not to let it get me down - sometimes it was hard though with Lenny being a grump. Sea World did turn out nice and I think that was the start of things turning around as I did already let everyone know Lenny didn't stay grumpy all week.

We spent one day at SW this trip-our first ever and it was good but difficult for me since I'm used to the Disney way of things lol...but everyone had a good time in the end. *i was thinking the same things about the shamu show and when we got back to the resort I spent the night on google looking things up..
I am so very glad that Abby not only listened to me but she remembered what I had told her. The most difficult thing about SW was the heat. Yes, we like how Disney does things but we didn't make any comments like that this time. I do remember making a few comments the last time we were there "they don't do it like that at Disney" but not this time. Having that other trip I think helped us not to compare becasue this time we knew what to expect, KWiM?

The whole trip was hot this year but I don't know when to quit when I'm at Disney so while I know I'm tired or exhausted, I don't give in to it - I just keep plugging along.
Darlene I LOVE your pics! Looking at them as I was reading your TR is like being there with you, Abby, and Lenny. (except the grumpy parts...lol)
I didn't think you were slow about texting...in fact the phone I had before this iphone I had the same way of texting that you do now. By the time I got this new phone, I could text pretty good with the number buttons! : )
I can't wait to read the next chapter! I know I have to make type up my TR. I am hoping to do it this weekend!
I so enjoyed the time of meeting you Three! It was nice to talk to another, actual other person..... and a mother to boot! : )
<~~~~ waiting patiently for the next installment! : )
Thanks Kate - it was great meeting you too and talking with another adult (as we know Lenny doesn't always act like one ). I hope you do your own TR as I will read it and see what else you did that we didn't talk about. Thanks for saying I'm not slow texting - I know I am but that's okay. I'll be posting more probably over the weekend so stay tuned for it.

My daughter worked at Sea World of Ohio when it was still here and one of her jobs was selling the fish that people fed the dolphins. One of her favorite things was visiting the dolphins after she got off work.
Liz
We did. I was bummed we couldn't just walk into the penguins like before but that was the only thing we didn't see but we still had a good time. That's cool your daughter worked at a SW for a while. That would be interesting but still kind of sad in a way that the animals aren't in their natural habitat. I realize not all of the animals can live in the wild so I try not to think about that aspect - which in a way is easy since we only go for a few hours. We're not there day in and day out.

Me too - I was really worried that she would be well on her way to hysterical and ruining her own day. I had to keep my head about me and when I found she was nice and calm really helped me too. I hope you enjoy SW like we did.

Good for Abby - keeping calm and going to a CM when she couldn't find you her lost parents.
I agree Sharon, it is crazy to have to do the ride but Wild Arctic is the same - there's no doing the exhibits without seeing a form of the movie first (either the non-moving or simualtor version). Maybe in time they'll change the penguin exhibit. VERY good for Abby keeping calm when we got lost. I'm very proud of her and told her so.

Sounds like a good, but hot and tiring day.
Those are three good words about our day - good hot and tiring. Surprising would be another one because Abby did surprise me with how well she handled being lost. She doesn't always react that way to situations - more often than not, her reactions go the other way.
Have hats, will travel. They go with us every year to Disney and with the exception of one day that I can remember, we used sunscreen too.
I know - she's grown quick. It's amazing to compare her first trip to now.

Thanks, I'm glad you like my TR's, even though they're not sugar coated. I may not give a blow by blow account of everything that is said and done - I don't feel it's appropriate, esepcially for a family board - but what I do say paints a good enough picture

You haven't missed that much. It just seems a lot because I've chosen to post entire days but in a couple of posts so they're not too overwhelming for anyone at any one time (me for posting and for those reading).

Mitch was really good. He seemed young to me but either he has younger family members that he's use to talking to/caring for or he's just one of those people that is just naturally a people person and can easily talk to anyone. I suppose that maybe being in the theme park industry, maybe they've had training too on what to do in certain circumstances. Whatever the case, I'm thankful it turned out the way it did.
I can understand your feelings on SW. I try not to read things or even think about them being in captivity so for a few hours, I can put it out of my mind but I do get for them it's sad.
No, we didn't get soaked at Shamu. We didn't even get a few drops from it either (which was fine by me, I didn't feel like getting salt water on me).

I'm glad to see I'm not the one one "crazy" enough to do that - Lenny thinks I'm strange for doing it on a nightly basis but it just makes it so much easier on me to figure my money and receipts. Of course too, the "benefit" of doing it that way is if I'm under budget, I can get more souvenirs . I think a lot of us have names like that for pools and/or resorts.

I totally agree - unplanned things (like a longer wait for the car) can be very stressful, especially on that first day. Lenny just adds to it at times with being cranky.. I was very relieved and very thankful for Mitch. It might not have been a Disney park but to me, the experience pretty much said Disney. I can't really explain it well but just his level of caring - making sure Abby was calm, making sure that I was okay when I got there - isn't what I expected from SW.

I'm glad you found my TR and are getting a laugh out of it. My descriptions of Lenny have to be family friendly but I could give you some other ones if you'd like . Glad you like the smilies too. Sometimes I scour the internet to find just the perfect one - and it makes it worthwhile when you guys like them too. Just like pictures, I think the smilies, when used in the right situations, just add to it.
