Semi-live trip report from our Med cruise **Updated 6/6 - COMPLETE** - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

We had Gemma as our server for our Palo dinner too. She really made the evening for us! Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories...and thanks for your live reports!
Well, unbelievably, the last time I updated was 1 June – my goodness, we’ve been busy since then! The high tea at Palo was good, although not necessarily one for you if you don’t have a sweet tooth. I couldn’t help but think that as all the cakes were brought out, along with a round of sandwiches.
The next day we stopped in La Spezia, a beautiful port and gateway to the even more beautiful Florence. We took the Florence and Pisa tour and saw the main sights in Florence, albeit at quite a quick speed! It’s a wonderful city and definitely somewhere I’d like to go back to. There are lots and lots of photos of the city to share with you. It was a zoo though, as we were there on an Italian republican holiday – there were lines everywhere. We went to a restaurant for lunch with some amazing views over the city – just a shame that the food wasn’t so amazing to go with it!
We then drove over to Pisa through some pretty wicked thunderstorms and when we got there, we got a bit wet, but it was alright, because there were literally hundreds of hawkers to sell us an umbrella, as ours had broken. We’re of the opinion that we’ve now been there, seen Pisa and have no desire to go back, but we’re glad we did it. The only problem was we were late back – something to do with a six foot Leaning Tower, you’ll have to read the trip report to find out all about that!
Then it was on to Marseille, where we took the city tour and this was a great tour, taking us up to the dramatic church that overlooks the city and then around the main sights, with an hour or so for shopping around the harbour. As it was a Sunday, a lot of shops were closed, but the main souvenir shops were open, so we were fine with that – and we found a gorgeous French patisserie for cakes, so we were happy!
That night, we saw When Mickey Dreams, one of the new shows on the Disney Cruise Line and it is out of this world and one of the best shows we’ve ever seen – if you like Cirque, do not miss this! I could’ve watched this every night, it was that good.
Yesterday we stopped in Villefrance and took the tour to Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze. Everything was wonderful until lunchtime – the Palace is well worth seeing and we caught the Changing of the Guard ceremony. You won’t believe the elevators and escalators you take to get up there. Lunch was really good, probably the best we’ve had on an all day tour and then it was off to the casino – let me say, you do not need a dress code to get in here during the day, so I guess the people who took the trouble to dress up on our tour were pretty annoyed about that, watching people with shorts and tennis shoes wander in. We didn’t bother, as they wanted me to put my camera into the cloakroom – no way!
The problem was then getting the bus to get to Eze. Again, I’ll save that for the trip report, but it was a disaster! Eze was OK, but we didn’t think much of it – beautiful village, but real money grabbing there. The souvenirs cost a fortune, pretty much more than anywhere else we’d visited and there was a charge to see the best views, which most of us opted not to pay – and it is quite a hike up there.
That just about brings me up to date – we now have a day at sea and then very sadly we’re back in Barcelona and our time on the Magic is over. Still ahead we have brunch at Palo this morning and then a galley tour this afternoon, but I really wish this cruise wasn’t close to finishing, as we’ve both loved it and would definitely do another one if they come this way again!
Cheryl - I can't wait to see all of those pictures! I won't say hurry back because I know you want to linger, but I'll be impatiently waiting for the real TR to start!

I am just getting all caught up on your Med cruise. Everything sounds wonderful. With the exception of the rough seas! I can't wait to read your entire trip report - pictures included!

We're back - albeit very briefly - from our wonderful cruise around the Med. Can you tell we enjoyed it? I say we're back briefly, as we're off travelling again tomorrow morning. We're going to see my parents for a few days to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with them, so there won't be any proper TR updates until probably Monday of next week - sorry!
However, here's the final part of the semi-live report, bringing you up to date. Well, the brunch at Palo was everything I'd heard it would be - and more. I couldn't believe how much food was on offer - it was just amazing! This is something you should not miss if you get a day at sea, it's superb.
After that, we packed and then did the galley tour - this is something else that you shouldn't miss. We learnt some amazing facts about how they prepare the food, how much they need of it and how it all works. It's a really cool tour and I loved it.
We then spent some time out on deck 10 sunbathing and headed off to see Remember the Magic, which was a version of the usual show, this time featuring an illusionist from France and a ventroliquist from England. This show really bought tears to my eyes - surely it couldn't be 11 nights since we boarded the Magic?
Sadly it was and it was time to bid farewell to everyone, which was very sad. We disembarked this morning and headed to Barcelona airport on the Disney buses and then flew home to Gatwick, with half an hour's drive home.
The more full version of the last 11 days or so will be forthcoming next week, which will give me some time to upload all the photos!
Can't wait to read your actual trip report Cheryl!!!! I enjoyed all the live tidbits though!! Have a wonderful time with your parents and Happy 40th Anniversary to them!!!!
It's been a wonderful "Live" Semi-TR but I'm also looking forward to your TR with pictures. Hope it's smooth sailing from here on out!
