As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Definitely a great looking tour. One I have now added to our bucket list. Your jacket is awesome - where did u find it? I love the elephants at Disney. Our bull from Pittsburgh was there on loan for a while. His name is Jack. Do you recall how old Stella was?

I love how lightweight the jacket is, yet it kept me quite warm in the air conditioning. I few weeks before our trip I found my t-shirt at Target, and knew it would be perfect for this day.

The tour is such a great one. The jacket is from Uniqlo in Disney Springs. At the time we were there Stella was not quite one year old yet. She made her debut on the savanna on January 5 of this year.
A correction on the elephant family: Stella's mom is Donna and Luna is another big sister. I misread my own notes.

When our Caring for Giants tour was over, we had about an hour before our FastPass window even opened for Kilimanjaro Safaris. With plenty of time, we decided to travel to Asia and hike through the Maharajah Jungle Trek. First up were the White-Cheeked Gibbons who were very active today. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but the larger blond gibbons are females. The younger gibbons are all black whether male or female until they hit puberty when the females will turn blonde. As you can see from the number of photos, I was captivated by their antics.
Next on our trek was the Komodo Dragon who was passively sitting in his habitat, not moving a muscle. One photo and we moved on.
I was excited about the next display as its inhabitant was new. At first, I couldn’t see anything, though Luke told me he had seen something moving. Eventually, one of the Lion-Tailed Macaque moved down into an area that was more visible and permitted me to get a couple of photos. We stayed looking for a return, but though we could see several macaque hidden in the greenery, none every came down for further photos.
Now for those PassPorters who find bats of any kind to be scary, you might want to scroll quickly past the next two photos. Actually, these are specifically Malayan Flying Fox, but they are definitely bats. Their diet is predominantly fruit, so not really bloodsuckers. I find them beautiful, but I wouldn’t really want one to swoop down by my head. I’m sure that would garner a shrill scream from me.
I have a fascination with the flags/banners in the Asian area of Animal Kingdom. Very pretty!
Additionally, I’m amazed by the Bar-headed Geese. So beautiful!
Another new creature that I was hoping to see was the Water Buffalo. I had to crane my neck and the camera just to get this lovely water buffalo butt shot.
Still having elephants on my mind after our enjoyable and interesting tour, I snapped this photo of the elephant engraving.
I’m sorry the next two photos are blurry. I should have changed settings, but I was afraid I was going to miss this wee lizard's red throat display.
Our next sighting was of Eld’s Deer. My first shot is an artsy attempt to frame the herd. These creatures are so sweet and peaceful as they graze along the hillside.
As you all know I love all the details, big and small, at Disney World. So I got a bit more artsy here with some of the scenery displays. Doesn’t the one in black and white look very old. I managed this in the editing process, and loved it.
More stone engravings that just happen to include elephants.
By now we’d moved into the aviary portion of the Maharajah Jungle Trek. The first bird photos are pheasants, at least I’m pretty sure, along with a complex nesting system. I love the photo of the pheasant who cocked his head at me. It felt like he was trying to figure out what I was up to.
Then we found these two sweet birds sitting side by side. Very pretty! I didn’t pick up the pictorial chart that helps identify the birds in the aviary so I’m not sure what these are. But they look beautiful.
From the aviary we walked out of the Maharajah Jungle Trek and then we were right back at the White-Cheeked Gibbon habitat.

And those 2 birds on the ground look so funny - almost like their heads melted a bit into their body.....

Great shots from the Jungle Trek. The Elephant tour sounds amazing and at that price, a really great value! I love all the pictures of those beautiful giants. Baby Stella is so cute!

Luke saw the lizard first and pointed him out to me. He was so interesting to watch. I agree that the birds heads look melted into their bodies. They didn't move at all while I watched them.
