Sailing with the Gang..DCL Magic, 2016 updated 6/21/2016 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wonderful photos of The Dig. I loved the underwater swimsuits for the Antlantians
Thanks.

I sure wish we both were that thin again.

I have to backtrack and comment on your luggage as I have the Samantha Brown luggage as well (in yellow). I have the large (28") and small (25"). I also have a carry-on shoulder bag and the toiletries bag. I love the Samantha Brown luggage! I can't believe how much stuff fits in those bags! They are so easy to use at the airport - after having the spinner wheels, I would never go back again.
Isn't it great? I got the blue/turquoise one matching my carry on in the 28 inch now too. If all goes well I will get to use it this summer and fall!
Ellen and I had both been to Atlantis once before, but I think the other 3 had never been. We wanted to take it all in and walk around and see as much as we could.
We moved on and took more pictures. See this smaller blue sign next to the bigger sign? It says we can’t go beyond that sign without the proper wristband…meaning we had to be a resort guest or someone who purchased one of the qualifying packages.
At first we kind of thought we would be “caught” and kicked out of the area, but after a bit we forgot we were in the forbidden zone and just leisurely walked around.
My oldest daughter Paige used to love the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen home videos and we had so many VHS’s of their adventures. One of their movies involved them going to Atlantis. I actually really liked the show because I loved seeing the resort and when Skip and I went on our honeymoon we took a NCL cruise and stopped in Nassau. We came to Atlantis then and toured the Dig back then. Before we left I watched that movie over and over to get myself in the Bahamas mood! (I think we still have it in storage somewhere…I should go look)

I remember those bridge suites being $20,000 when we toured Atlantis and that must've been back in 2004, so another $5,000 in the intervening time sounds about right.
Wow that Bridge Suite is amazing!!! The whole resort looks awesome. We have talked about taking a vacation there - still want to. Did you get to see the Coral Towers building? How is that one (if you got to see it)?

Can you imagine paying for a week there...or being the travel agent making the commission off that room? LOL

We did tour Coral. I believe Coral is going to be totally redone this summer. Even the lobby
Nice pictures Jenn! I have to say that when I stayed at the Atlantis (my only time) about 10 years ago I found the workers there very rude. I also disliked how they added on a tip to every single thing you bought on property even if they sold you a bottle of water.

That doesn't surprise me one bit. Though that's like cruising too. LOL.
I didn't find anyone rude but we were only there a few hours too.
After watching a few people come down the slide, we moved over around the side. There was a tank of sharks…..and the one waterslide went right through it…..though they were in a tube so no harm would come to them.
So we walked around some more and took in the sights. Brook started having a bad coughing fit. Brook was just getting over a killer case of bronchitis. She had been sick for over a month and finally went to the Dr.s before the trip and he scolded her for not coming in sooner….so she was on lots of meds to help her get well. Up until now, you really couldn’t tell she had been sick except that she would lose her voice every so often. I don’t know what triggered it but she could now barely breath because she was coughing so hard. I told her I would get her a drink. I ran over to one of the stands and asked for a coke and diet coke. I wasn’t sure what she liked and I figured I would drink whatever she didn’t drink. Thing to note…they do not take cash at any of these food stands. You have to charge it to your room or use a credit card. Thank goodness I had one with me.
I grabbed the drinks and gave Brook her choice and she downed it and felt better.
I think we find a bathroom and used it and continued looking over the grounds. I think we must have been in a deep conversation because I don’t have any pictures during this time.
We then were kind of feeling hungry. We had talked about eating lunch here but we decided we would have a snack now. A couple decided they would just go back to the ship for lunch and Ellen asked if I would go to a place that served great chowder with her. I am always ready to tackle some chowder.
A couple of the gals got a hot pretzel. Ellen got one and I was thinking on whether I wanted one or not and she said she would share it with me. It was pretty good. Not the best I have ever had, but I liked it. Patty did not like hers at all. I am not sure if she got a bad one or if she just didn’t like this particular style. I thought I had taken pictures of them, but I don’t see it in my album, so I guess I am hallucinating.
We then moved on. Now we should have went the other way as there was a lot that way we did not look at yet, but for some reason we were programed to go this way first.
That lady we passed stopped us and told us we didn’t have the proper band to go in that area. SHOOT! We had wandered out without even realizing it. Shoot shoot shoot. Well we enjoyed our rebelness while it lasted.
It was getting closer to noon and we had to meet up in Coral Towers lobby at 12:30 for our tour so we decided it was probably wise to start heading that way.

More great photos of Atlantis resort! The Bridge Suite is quite something and what a room and view! I'm glad you were able to take all those photos of Atlantis within the resort guest area. Maybe it's not strictly enforced as long as you don't bother anyone?

I remembered this building from the last time I was here. I think Skip and I got a burger to share there. I knew we had to make our way over that way to get to back inside.
More great photos of Atlantis and those of the lagoon area and sharks! That was some crazy surf on the beach. As much of a sunny day it was, the surf can be completely different with storms out at sea, which can wreak havoc so many miles away!
