TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just catching up...
What an awesome first day you had! You really packed a lot in! That is my favorite way to do Disney! Taking advantage of every minute!
You got some great shots with Pooh & Friends at breakfast and mmmm Pooh's puffed french toast! Glad you had some great interactions with Rapunzel and Anna and loved the details around Art of Animation for your afternoon pool time That blue drink looked tasty
Looks like you had a great morning at MK. Great pictures from all the character meet and greets. Looks like a fun afternoon hanging out at the pool!
Thanks! It was!

I'm loving the pics of AOA. It is one of the resorts on our "wanna try" list.
Thanks! We had to get our money's worth, lol I say you should go for it to stay at AoA - at least once!

Thanks! OOOHHH! That would so exciting if they did add a photo with the ghosts!

After showering and such, we headed to the bus stop – and had a short wait for our MK bus.
Someone decided to take a quick snooze on the bus!
When we arrived at Magic Kingdom, we headed straight back to Fantasyland as we had a dinner ADR at Be Our Guest for 6:40 p.m. We got checked in and took a few photos outside, but otherwise the wait was not long before we were led to our table in the main Ballroom………….one of these days I will request the West Wing!
I love the napkins here.....someday I will have to learn how to do this!
Our server was very attentive – his name was “Scooter” (which Scott and I thought was interesting as that was Scott’s nickname back in the day!).
The bread basket was brought out immediately.
For starters, Emily had the French Onion soup – of course, I had a few bites – YUMMY! For her dinner she had the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops with seasonal vegetables served in a puff pastry with a creamy lobster sauce. She also had a root beer.
Notice - the hands up! She almost took a bite before I got a photo! The nerve!!!
Scott had the Herb-Crusted Lamb Rack with a stone-ground mustard demi-glace served with buttered celery root and seasonal vegetables with a glass of Michel Redde Sancerre (Sauvignon Blanc).
I had the Thyme-Scented Pork Rack Chop with au gratin Macaroni, seasonal vegetables and red wine jus with a glass of L’ombre de la Bete Chardonnay.
The Beast made his appearance and was heading to the study for photo ops.
The dessert cart ~
For dessert, we ordered the Lemon Meringue cupcake and the Tropical Fruit Cream Puff to share, Scooter even brought us some Grey Stuff .
Dinner was delicious as always – we cleaned our plates! And like I said, Scooter was very attentive – best service we have received here so far (I believe this was our 3rd visit for dinner?).
After filling ourselves, we made our way over to visit with the Beast! He seemed quite impressed with Emily’s dress! I still wish that he would sign, but I guess with those big paws it would be rather difficult.
Outside I had to get a few more photos of my princess ~
We really didn’t have much planned other than to just go with the flow and see where our feet took us! And they led us right onto Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid! I absolutely LOVE this castle!!! And all the attention to details in and around it! I could photograph this all day long!
We found a Photopass Photographer outside my new found favorite castle!
Then over to Storybook Circus area where we rode Barnstormer!
Next on the path was flying with Dumbo! I love riding Dumbo in the dark with all the lights, especially the way the water looks all lit up! Notice the moon in the sky! Perfect night!
We decided to ride the Railroad to the front of the park and head to Downtown Disney ~ which we soon discovered was not as easy as we thought it would be. We took the monorail over the Ticket and Transportation Center and thought we could grab a bus to DTD from there……..well you can’t . So back onto the monorail we went……..getting off at the Grand Floridian and then took the bus to DTD from there. Whew! That was an adventure!
We just wandered around DTD, basically “window shopping” to see what we might want to come back for and we checked out the new Co-op – which of course was packed – so not so enjoyable for us. I could see where one could spend quite a bit in there, but honestly it looked like mostly the same items you could find at World of Disney?
We stopped for some beverages – Scott had a beer, I a diet coke, and Em a root beer, sitting to people watch while we drank them.
Then we headed back to AoA, and we were in bed by 11:30 after a fantastic day!

Your 1st flight on the small plane was scary! There is no way I would have been able to relax knowing everything was calculated manually. Not that computers could do a better job but the whole human error thing scares me. I'm glad you arrived safely in Newark and were able to barely make your connecting flight!
I love all your pics! I wish I could take such nice shots but my little camera does a decent enough job for $150. lol
The AoA room looks a lot better than I thought it had looked. Wasn't the color of the rooms originally like a teal color? Why did I think they were a tacky color like that???
And what kind of tracker where you guys using? I'm interested in purchasing one myself but don't know what works well in tracking steps and miles.

Thank you for joining in! Yes, the flight was a bit nervewracking.
Scott has a fitbit - he really likes it.

A very nice dinner! I love Prince Eric's castle, too. Beautifully designed. It's a pain getting to DTD from the parks. They don't offer bus service from the parks because people would park free at DTD for their day in the parks. They can still do it, but it's a lot of work and time! Thanks for including the detailed cost breakdown. It's very helpful and eye-opening. It doesn't take long for a TiW to pay for itself!
-love all of the PP pictures!
-love your resort!!
-hope to try Seven Dwarfs in a few weeks!
-I've never done a meet & greet with TINK -looks fun! (I did get a FP, so hopefully, I'll get some to do this).
-CP breakfast looks yummy! (we've only done dinner there).

I just love Ems outfit! Too freaking adorable! Dinner looked yummy and love your pics at dusk of magic kingdom. It is a pain getting to DTD sometimes and a bummer just to be met with crowds
So glad you enjoyed your dinner at Be Our Guest, especially as I've heard so many negative reviews of it recently. We loved our first dinner there in November 2013 and I'm hoping it will be just as good when we go back in a few week's time.

Thanks! I guess I understand about the parking at DTD, but man is it a pain - although it would not have been so much so if we had known to just hop over to a resort and take the bus from there. Lesson learned. I am glad that the $$ info is helpful - I teetered whether to share or not but I figured it would be helpful to others who are planning, and yes, the TIW card pays for itself rather quickly with us!!

Thanks. We have done lunch and dinner there, and honestly I can't remember how loud it is at dinner, I am thinking that it might be, but then again, I feel that most of the dining places are loud, as they are always so crowded.

Thanks, yes, dinner was very good - it does makes a huge difference with a great server. We have had some not so great ones there - as well as other places, but if the service is good, it can make or break the experience.

Yum! Dinner at Be Our Guest looked delicious!
You are having such good luck with PP photographers! Sometimes they are few and far between when you get off Main Street.
We love Dumbo at night too! The spinning lights are very mesmerizing.
