The Many Adventures of the Ayers’ Family - Oct 2014 TR - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! I am so sorry that you had to deal with all of that. I agree with others that you had way more restraint than I would have had inn the same situation. I can't wait to see how much better the trip got!

DH and DMiL leave the park at 12:30pm and DSis, DS, and I contemplate what we are going to do. It’s almost time for our final fastpass, which is for the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at 1:00 pm. I’m still pretty upset and since this show was the ONE THING that DH wanted to see while we were here…I didn’t want to see it without him. We decided to skip our last fastpass and we headed over to the Star Tours store so that DSis and DS could buy some light sabers. DS decided on a two sided light saber while DSis got 2 light sabers, a green one for her fiancé and a purple one for herself.
We paid for the light sabers and had them sent back to the resort. We then headed over to see the Muppet show. This was the first time I’ve seen this show and I have to say it was pretty cute. It probably won’t be something we do every visit, but it was fun to watch.
After our Muppet adventure, we were thirsty and stopped to grab a water. Water in hand, we walked over to RnRC to check the standby wait. It was 30 minutes, so we hopped in line. In all honesty, we probably only waited for about 20 minutes before we were given our backstage passes to the Aerosmith concert and our limo was waiting in the alley for us.
After RnRC, we headed over to check into the Hollywood Hotel. The standby wait was listed at 20 minutes, but we probably only waited 10 minutes. This ride has quickly become my favorite ride.
After we were all done with ToT, it was around 3:00 pm and we decided it was far too hot to keep going We walked to our bus stop and went back to the resort. We got back to the room around 3:30 pm and we relaxed for an hour and a half.
While we were heading to the bus stop, I noticed this guys just hanging out outside of our room…
We were back at the bus stop at 5:15 pm and at EPCOT at 5:45 pm. We walk in the park and we quickly decide we NEED to ride Spaceship Earth! We are on the ride in no time because the wait time was 0 minutes…LOL. Once on the ride, it stops. We were stuck sitting there for about 15 minutes and then it starts up and we are moving through time. I really enjoy this ride…I think it’s because it’s cool on the inside and I get to sit…I think that’s why I like The Peoplemover too! Hehe.
Next we decided to check and see if there are any fastpasses that we can grab at the last minute, but there are none. Since the fast pass machine is right next to MouseGears we decide to go in and do some shopping. We look around for quite a while. I contemplated on a Vera Bradley bag, looking them all over very carefully. I decide against it and walk away. No less than 5 minutes later, I am back at the rack looking again and decide on a cute little black hip bag. I also find some cute little Bandits for my Magic Band. Purchases in hand, I head to the register and check out. Total Spent: $78.52.
By this time we are starving. We decide to put some money on some F&FW gift cards and head off to eat around the world. Our first stop was South Korea where I got a Kimchee Dog, a Lettuce Wrap, and a bottle of water. Let me tell you, that Kimchee Dog was SPICY and I don’t mean SPICY in a good way. I like spicy food, but this Kimchee Dog was FAR TOO HOT. The lettuce wrap was delicious!
Next we walked over to Japan and DSis and DS each got a Spicy hand roll, DSis also got a Chirashizushi and DS got the Teriyaki gyoza bun. Everything was delicious.
Next up was Belgium. DSis got a Belgian Waffle with Warm Chocolate Ganache and Whipped Cream and I got a Belgian Waffle with Berry Compote with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream and another bottle of water. All of us shared these and they were gone in no time. Again, everything was delicious.
It was close to 8:00 pm and we made our last stop in France…but not the food and wine booth. We decided to pick up some food and desserts to take back with us to the room. At Boulangerie Patisserie les Halles I got a quiche florentine , a chocolate tart, and a strawberry cream tart. DSis got a macaroon collection and a cheese plate. DSis also got macaroon sandwich from L'Artisan des Glaces. DS got some kind of pizza thing, a strawberry cream Tart, and a parfait aux raspberry.
It was nearing 8:30 pm by the time we started heading out of the park. We got to our bus stop and were back at the resort by 9:15 pm. Once we got back to the room, DS and DSis went to the pool while I stayed in the room to talk to DH. He was about to start his trip back to Orlando and I wanted to make sure he was safe. I really missed him and hated that he couldn’t spend the day with us.
After I got off the phone with DH, I went to the pool and hang out with DSis and DS. DSis and I just sat in the lounge chairs while DS swam.
Around 10:15 pm we headed back to the room and just snacked on our goodies and hung out. We ate the cheese plate that DSis bought and I though all of the cheese were FUNKY LOL!
I went to bed around midnight but I set my alarm for 4:00 am to be awake when my DH arrived. At 4:30 am I heard him walk into the room and we talked for a few minutes until we both fell back asleep.
Next up: Day 3 – Less Stress, More Fun!

I hate that you had to spend the rest of the day and evening without your DH, but sounds like you three had a great time and had some great food.
Love your VB bag. My oldest DD has the large duffel in that print.
Glad your DH made it back safe and sound so you could enjoy the rest of your trip!

Yes, I didn't like him being gone, but DSis, DS, and I had a great time together in the park. Since my DSis lives in KY, we don't really have that much time together so it was really nice just hanging out with her that day.
I thought the VB bag was super cute. I bought it to use for our June 2015 trip...It's still sitting in the Disney World bag that I got from the store! LOL.
I was so relieved when he got back, we were able to really have a good time on Day 3!

I am sorry you husband had to do all of that driving, but I admire the way he took charge of his Mother and "escorted" her home. Glad to hear things get better.
It's a shame your DH wasn't there to enjoy that time with you, but it sounds like you made the best of the situation.
Yes! You always have to make of a bad situation...and we did! I had a good time just hanging out with my son and sis.

Yes, it was a lot of driving for him but I think it was worth it. We had 3 days left to enjoy together.

I would have missed Luke miserably, but your DH did the best thing for everyone. I really admire him for giving up park time to make the situation better. I have had the Kimchee Dog twice now and loved it. But I'm a hot mustard fan, which is what makes this one so hot. Tasting around the World is so fun.

Yes, I missed DH very much that day and I was very happy he came back safely. The rest of the trip was wonderful after that though. I thought the kimchee dog was good but it was sooooo hot! I could barely stand it LOL! I love tasting all the f&fw food and you'll see we get to do it again later in the trip

Well it sounds like you had a great day with your sister and son - minus the missing your DH - can't even imagine how exhausted that man must have been - BUT it was so worth him taking MIL home so that you all could enjoy the rest of your trip!

It was really a great time hanging out with them. We just went with the flow and did what we wanted. It was nice not having a plan and just enjoying time with each other. I really did miss DH but the time is made up later in the trip.
His job requires him to work 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week so he is used to being up crazy hours...he was exhausted by the time he got back to the room at 4:30 am though! Poor guy...he was excited that I thought of him and brought him the strawberry tart from EPCOT.

Day 3 – October 21, 2014 - Part 1 – AKL and Yak & Yeti
Today was a beautiful day. I woke up at 7:00 am and popped out of bed…eager to start the day. I quietly got up, showered, and got dressed…I was trying my hardest to not wake DH. I knew he was quite tired from his long drive, so I wanted him to sleep in. After I finished getting myself ready, I went to set DH’s alarm clock. He heard me fiddling around and he woke up and told me that he’d meet us for lunch. I finished setting his clock and walked into the living room.
It was a beautiful morning outside
My DSis and DS were already dressed and waiting for me. We gathered all of our park bags and we headed down to the busses. We caught the first bus to AK and were at the park in no time. I noted that we arrived at AK at 8:45 am. Once we entered the park, we headed to our first fast pass of the day which was for Kilimanjaro Safaris from 9:15 am – 10:15 am. We got in line and we were quickly loaded onto our truck for our 2 week safari. It was a lot of fun and our guide, Karen, was really funny and informative. We saw a lot of animals! My DSis was really excited to ride this as she hadn’t been on it before. We all really enjoyed our trip and our 2 week safari came to an ending too quickly. It was around 9:45 am when we were done and we decided to walk around the trails and see if we see any of the gorillas out playing.
We saw these guys
It was around 10:15 am when I got a text from DH telling me that he just made it to the park and he wanted to know where to meet us. I was excited that he was awake and ready to hang out for the day. I told him that we’d meet him at one of the stores in Africa. He made us way towards us and we were united at 10:30 am.
We had an 11:00 am lunch reservation at Yak & Yeti so we decided to head that way. We checked in at the restaurant at 10:45 am and we waited around until they called our name. Promptly at 11:00 am we were called and taken upstairs to a very nice window seat that overlooked the walkway outside. It was really nice. Our server was Stacey and he was from a town called Welcome located in Indiana. He was really nice and attentive. I told him that he had been our favorite server this entire trip.
We ordered a bottle of Zipang Sake to split (Not DS of course!) and it was delicious…crisp, refreshing, and sweet. For an appetizer we ordered the wok-fried green beans and they were yummy! To drink I had a coke, DSis had a coke, DS and DH both got sprite. For our entrees, DH ordered the shaoxing steak and shrimp, DS ordered the stir-fried beef and broccoli, and DSis and I shared an order of crispy honey chicken with two eggrolls. Everything was delicious and our total including tip was $135.00.
After our delicious lunch, we headed over towards Dinoland and rode Primeval Whirl.
After our ride, it was time for our second fastpass, DINOSAUR!
It was fast approaching time for our last fastpass so we headed towards Expedition Everest.
After our final fastpass we decided to go to DHS for a quick ride on RnRC and ToT since DH had missed the day before. We got on the bus and were at DHS by 3:30 pm.
We did standby for both rides, RnRC had a standby wait of 30 minutes and ToT had a standby of 20 minutes. After we got off ToT I noticed that the standby time was only 10 minutes so we got back in line again!
~Notice that DSis and I have the #3 held up as it was our 3rd ride!
After our quick rides, we headed to our resort bus and went back to the resort to hang out.
Next up: DTD and a special dinner!
