Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you're all enjoying being on site! I love the landscaping and the river at POR. So sweet that the girls felt uncomfortable wearing the "first visit" buttons. I don't think it was right for the CM to kind of force them to lie like that!
I don't think we'll ever stay off site again, we really loved being in the bubble I'm so glad the girls realized that they probably shouldn't be wearing the FV pins, clearly I wasn't thinking straight when I gave them to them

I was surprised at the kids portions, most CS places in the parks give them way to much food!

Sounds like a nice relaxing way to start your trip. MK looked like it wasn't that crowded. Score!
There were hardly any crowds at MK that day, it was great! We were only there for a couple of hours, but you'll see in my next update that we got ALOT done

Oops, thought I commented, but don't think I did. Love all the pics of the girls - especially the one at the resort where they are walking away from you. And their Duffy's are darned cute too.

It's always the same way, I never can sleep too late when I'm in Disney! Too much excitement
Warning! This is a super long post, I just didn't know where to cut it off Even after writing it all up, I still can't believe how much we did in such a short amount of time!
We headed straight to Town Hall for a meeting with our favorite mouse, I was happy to see that there was only a 5 minute wait! I had taken a cue from one of Kelly’s (OhToodles) TRs and got one of those create your own Vinylmations for our autographs this year and the girls wanted to make sure that the big cheese himself was the first one to sign it. We walked right on into the dressing room and had a great meet with Mickey. He was really excited to see the Vinylmation, Kaeli and Abby really loved that!
We said goodbye to Mickey and headed out to Main Street with no real plan in mind. We stopped to get a few Photopass pictures in front of the Castle.
This photographer was really great, you could tell he had a lot of fun with his job. Well, towards the end of our little photo shoot he could tell the girls were getting a little tired of smiling, so he ran right up to them and put the camera right in their faces for an extreme close up. They thought it was just hysterical.
The Castle show had just started so we stopped to watch, but that didn’t last too long since the girls were itching to get on some rides! We decided to head towards Storybook Circus and along the way we noticed that Merida hardly had a line, so we jumped right in. I thought that the archery lesson they had set up for the kids was a great touch, Kaeli and Abby both enjoyed it and the photopass pics are really cool!
I couldn’t hear everything that was going on, but Kaeli and Abby were having lots of fun with Merida. She’s very silly, there was a lot of giggling and chatting going on between those girls!
On our way over to Storybook Circus a man approached us and offered us 3 FPs for Barnstormer, perfect timing! I love the theming of this new area, it’s super cute.
I wanted to check out the new Dumbo ride next. It was showing a 30 minute wait, but I didn’t care, I wanted to see the new play area anyway. We made our way inside and got our pagers before taking a look around.
Sorry for the poor pictures, I snapped them quickly on my phone!
Let me just tell you, whoever came up with this idea is a genius! What a great way to wait in line for a ride, without realizing you are even waiting. The kids get to play and blow off steam, while the parents get to sit and rest (in air conditioning! ), it’s a win win for everyone! The only problem I could possibly see would be with little ones who don’t want to stop playing when it’s time for their ride. Our wait was definitely less than what was posted, within 10 minutes our pager was going off and we were off to take a flight with Dumbo.
It was time for a snack, so we decided to check out Big Top Souvenirs for a bit. The girls found these silly hats
And then we went to check out the sweet treats they had. The girls both got a Goofy’s Glacier (think Icee), Kaeli got lemonade while Abby got a mix of cherry and blue raspberry. While the girls sipped their slushes we walked over to the Casey Junior Splash Zone.
The girls wanted to go in, but we had dinner to get too soon, and there is just not any way to walk through that area without completely getting drenched!
I wanted to see if they were doing dress rehearsals of the New Fantasyland today so we headed in that direction. Sadly, there was a sign out front stating that the dress rehearsals were not happening today when we got there. Oh well, we still had the rest of the week for a chance! Instead, we grabbed FPs for PPF and walked right on to IASW. Abby promptly took control of the camera and took about a million pictures throughout the ride. After our happy little cruise, Kaeli wanted to do the HM. No matter how much we tried to talk her into it, Abby wanted nothing to do with it, so Chris took her over to the Speedway while Kaeli and I visited some happy haunts.
After we got rid of those hitchhiking ghosts, Kaeli and I cut through Sleepy Hollow to make our way over to the Tea Cups to meet Chris and Abby. We stopped for a few pics along the way
We found Chris and Abby, and I believe that they and Kaeli went for a spin on the Tea Cups while I sat out. We still had time to kill before our FPs for PPF were ready, so we meandered down towards Liberty Square. The Liberty Belle was just about to leave, so we hopped on. Just as we were pulling away from shore my dad called to let us know that the power had finally been turned back on at home. Yay!!
Chris was tickling Abby in this one because she didn't want to smile!
It was finally time for our ride on Peter Pan, so we headed that way after our ride along the river. When we got to the FP entrance there was a CM there helping a guest on a scooter and asked us to wait just a moment. Sure, not a problem. A line began to form behind us, and then a man and woman came up to the line and tried to push their way past the CM and the other guest. When they finally realized that they couldn’t go through yet, they just stood there, completely ignoring the line that had formed. I just don’t understand how some people are so rude and oblivious when they come to WDW. Finally the CM told them to get to the end of the line, and thankfully they did.
This was the first time in 4 trips that the girls have done PPF, for whatever reason they never wanted to give it a chance, no matter how much we tried to convince them. Well, they loved it!! Kaeli declared it the best ride and wondered why we never did it.
It was about 5:30 at this point, so we decided to make our way towards the Contemporary for our 6:30 dinner at Chef Mickeys.

Sounds like a great day! You did do a lot in such a small amount of time.
I loved that you each had some one on one time with each girl. I love to do that when we go as a family. I let DH take DD on a couple rides alone, so that way it's their special time together. Think....tea cups! HAHA! Then I take her on a couple rides by myself for our together time. Usually Dinosaur, BTMRR, something of that nature.
You got some great pics from today! I love the up close ones of the girls. The one of Chris tickling Abby is such a great one. It really captures a moment in time. Priceless.
You sure did accomplish a lot in a short time! And still had time for all those great photos, too. I love the description of the new queue set-up at Dumbo. Very smart! It must have been great to get the news from your dad about the power being back on.
