As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I don't know. They told the power outage story to my hubby and that is all we ever heard about it. I know New Orleans Square was evacuated a day or two after we left. Either way I am just glad I finally got my little fam together and we got out of there.
How odd that they didn't just explain the story of evacuation from the get-go. I would think more people would understand that! How cool you got on Jungle Cruise so quickly twice! Good thing you got the thick padded shoe - I can just imagine seeing a person in your situation hobbling along with uneven shoes! Looking forward to hearing about dinner.

Just catching up. Sounds like a great trip so far. After seeing your pics of the newly refurbished room, I need to stay at the DLH again! Love that you finally got your encounter with Eeyore! And you and your DH seem to be handling everything well in spite of your injury! Looking forward to more!

Just got all caught up on your report. Great job! I love the pics - especially the ones of the room! Glad you had fun in spite of your foot! Glad you got everyone together after the little scare in Tomorrowland. Other sources do say it was an issue with a bag and not the power . Can't wait to hear about dinner as we have not eaten there!

We parked the stroller outside and grabbed the snack bag for the boys as meal never come fast enough unless it is a buffet. We were early and we had early reservations so the restaurant was fairly empty but that was our plan. They seated us right away in a quiet corner. They helped me to find a close spot to park my scooter and I settled in. Our server introduced herself and asked what kind of drinks we wanted and seemed to have trouble explaining the special and paid very little attention to the boys. We decided to order them the grilled chicken and pasta and ordered that once our server came back. She seemed to think it was odd that we order their food before ours. Oh well. The other serving staff was very nice and brought extra bread and juice fore the boys as we decided what we wanted.
I decided to skip getting a starter/soup so I could order an extra side and have room for dessert. Looking back I would have done a starter and planned to skip dessert but that has more to do with our server than anything else. I got the filet and hubby got the rib eye. I chose three sides for the two of us to share, the Chef's Potato Au Gratin Stack, the Steamed asparagus and the Seasonal Mushrooms sautéed in Madeira.
The boy’s food arrived right away and they loved it, the chicken was very moist, the pasta was basic but Ethan loved it and they even finished their veggies. The table next to us was a single diner, a woman from Florida and she was nice and said hi to us and to the boys. She ordered a Caesar Salad and was very pleased with it. She also ordered some wine she and her server were chatting about for some time.
Our entrees arrived. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and with that lovely crust. YUM! Our sides were a mixed bag. The asparagus was not good. The table next to us also ordered it and she was also disappointed. We loved the mushrooms and I loved the potatoes but my husband did not. There was a kind of sweet/rich after taste he did not prefer but I enjoyed.
We took our time with the entrees and it was pushing the limits of our young guys. We asked if we could take dessert to go and got kind of an attitude from our server about it. She said most of their stuff was not made to do that and she kind of made me feel like most of their dessert weren't very good anyway. She did look at me like a was a weirdo for choosing to skip and starter over a dessert. She did not offer to talk to the chef about what we could take with us or anything she just seemed to want to get us out of there. So we skipped it and decided if we wanted something later we would order room service or pick up a treat elsewhere. No big deal but not very magical at all.
Hubby took the boys out to get settled in the stroller and I paid the bill. The server seemed surprised and maybe a bit embarrassed when she saw that I had an annual pass. I am not sure why that mattered. So I waited for her to bring my card back the woman at the next table asked about my foot. She was very nice and also asked if I needed any help getting to my scooter (more than the server asked). She also told me how cute and well behaved my boys were. I always love to hear this since most people do not appreciate small children in nicer places. I thanked her and told her to enjoy the rest of her meal and her trip.
I collected my silly boys and we headed back to our room to pack up and get settled for the night. We were planning to go to Carnation Cafe for breakfast in the morning and hit the parks for a few hours before leaving. Poor hubby had to be super patient as I directed him to what to pack and what to leave out for the next morning/day. He is a good man.
The boys crashed in their beds and we followed soon behind.
Jen, I'm so sorry to hear you had a less than wonderful server and sone of your meal was a dissappointment. How wonderful of the woman at the table next to you to interact with you and compliment you on your boys. Believe me I know how hard it can be with going out with a little one as Skyler's
right inbetween your boys' age and we get the stink eye almost always. I'm sure you appreciated the compliment on your little men. Looking foward to reading more please.
Bummer to hear about the server, but the food sounded I'm thinking of going here for dinner after the 1/2 marathon as a celebration with my BFF. But she's on a pretty tight budget, so we shall see. As a former solo traveler to WDW, I think it's awesome that you chatted with the solo woman. It's always nice to do that sort of thing!!
