Our Penny Pressing Plans - the Photo Finish - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm all caught up, now. The autotrain sounds really nice. We don't have anything like that around here. My DD likes to press pennies, too. She's been doing it since she was little. So about the problems with your room keys. Warm pools aren't much fun. I can't wait to read more.
Liz
you have arrived and started the adventure of find pressed pennies. I love when my room location feels right, though I am sorry that you could not get the cards to open both doors...oh well. Chef Mickeys was a big hit. I love the picture of Abby with Buzz Lightyear .... so cute.

I hope that the key situation got resolved. What a hastle! Glad you had fun at CM. I love the pictures especially the one with you and Abby, she looks so happy.
Great photos - you got to do a lot that first day, but it sounds relaxing, too. If the pool was too warm, I hope you found another way to cool off for the week...
I'm so glad you posted all the autotrain info. It is somethingI had mentioned to DH, but seeing the size of the compartments; I don't know if I could do it (I am a tad bit claustrophobic.
What a pain those keys ended up being, Yuck!
I just the pics of Abby with the characters...Looking forward to your next update!
Sounds like the rest of the train ride went very smoothly. And how nice that your rooms were ready that early, sorry you never did get the keys to work like they were supposed to. You must have had a great time at the MK! Sorry it didn't work out with the pool water. Looking forward to the next update! Oh, and great start with the pressed coins, even with the out-of-order machines (isn't that frustrating!).
Thanks. The train was smooth, we enjoyed the rooms being done early. As far as the keys, I don't think the CM's knew what they were talking about. One key opening 2 doors? It didn't really sound possible so until I hear otherwise, I'm not going to believe it was really going to work. And frustrating isn't really the word I'd use for the machines because we knew it would happen - I'd probably say what I do to Abby, it was a more an "Oh well" feeling

91 degrees at 9:30 in the morning is HOT! I'm sweating just thinking about it; lol. Glad you were seated for dinner quickly and had a good meal! Can't wait to read more!
Thanks - and the temperature that morning makes me wonder how hot it actually got on vacation. I'll post more today.

The autotrain sounds really interesting, I would love to try it out sometime. Glad you made it to Disney and was able to get your room, but sorry about the key problems.
Glad you enjoy the Autotrain info. If you don't mind adding a couple of days to your trip, then I recommend trying it. And the key problems was the least of them really.

Glad your trip down on the train was good. Sounds like once you hit WDW, your trip was off to a great start!
Thanks. Once at Disney, it was off to a start - I did some heavy editing for this day.

How aggravating with keys! But glad you still had a great day!
The keys were aggravating, but once I had at least the one key for the second door, I was fine with it. And the day was great because I left out all the not so great details.

you guys packed a lot into your first day keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks. I don't think we packed that much in, but Lenny thinks it was too much.

Thanks - I think the pennies have now become an addiction with us. We're going to Maine at the end of next month and the comment has already come out "I wonder if there are any that we can get while up there"

Enjoyed hearing about the auto train. That would be a fun thing to try.
Thanks - it is fun. A great way to keep moving without doing it yourself and getting really tired.

Thanks - it was an adventure, I do admit that and we've had really good luck with our room locations that last few years but I think I preferred this years the most. All the character meals were a big hit, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Abby is such a cutie when she's willing - some pictures aren't so cute, but we can't have a great one everytime I suppose.

No, the keys didn't get resolved. I left it the way you read about it. I didn't want any more sets of keys - especially since they kept requesting the old set back. I had one key for one room and 3 for the other so I could open both doors - that's all I wanted in the first place. Abby loves Disney and is happy when we're there.

I actually don't think we do all that much, but Lenny thinks it's too much - and he would definitely argue the point of it being relaxing. But that's another story (that has been censored out). As for cooling off - it consisted of lots of breaks where it was cool and cold showers in the room.

Relatively good - I've just left out the bad parts.

Sounds like you all had a great first day, except for that pesky key problem.
The wonder of self censorship - we had great parts and that's what I chose to write about. And the keys were definitely pesky

Great first day. Sorry about the keys.
Thanks

Lenny is too, but he doesn't have a problem on the train. And I think the great part is, you're not limited to staying in the room (or even your seat if you do coach). The train has a lounge car, and I've seen plenty of people parked there with computers, books and magazines, etc. So you could always sit up there until bed time. There's even movies shown in the lounge at night - this year going down I know one was Coraline (I think there was another one as wel). We haven't done the movies as we bring a DVD for Abby with movies I know that are appropriate for her.
The keys were definitley a PITA on the first day, but we got over it.
Thanks - I'll be posting more today.

What a fun first day in Disney!
Thanks Cheryl. Like I said, it could have been more fun, but the parts I didn't put in, I'm trying to forget about (and trying to get Abby to get past them too).
the key situation would drive me insane!!! glad i was able to help at CM...the picture's all are great!!
They were starting to. At first I thought it was just me, but once I thought about it, it just didn't seem possible - 1 key, 2 different doors. And I think the sad part about the whole situation was the last time at check in, I asked for that - 2 sets of keys, one for each room but they wouldn't do it for me.
And thanks again for your help. I do appreciate it. It's not often I even get in the pictures with the characters and it figures the one time someone's insistent, Lenny wasn't there. How typical - guys not there when you need them. Thank goodness for our fellow PP's though - they're always there in way or another .
